Clear and crisp

I got the Beta 87A, because my voice sounded too dark and boomy when using the SM58. I use it mostly for speech and voiceover.

The Beta 87A is very bright and crisp, which helps a lot for my voice. It also has a lot of flexibility in handling: the distance from the mic which can be used seems to be larger and easier to find for beginners, when compared to the SM58. The proximity effect is quite smooth as well, this makes playing with it a lot of fun. It is a lot more sensitive than the SM58, and thus background suppression is not as good as the SM58. The low pass filter is kind of build-in. I would have prefered a switch to disable it occationally.

At the end of the day, it depends on your voice and what you want to achieve. For me it has worked very well.

Best bang for the buck

Could not be happier with this microphone. I can see why this is an industry standard. For less than 300 hundred euros you get a top of the line professional mic. I have read a lot of reviews before buying, and to be honest I was a bit skeptic, becuse I already own a Shure SM58 which is great mic, so I wasn't sure whether it was worth the extra money, but it is. It has so much clarity to it and power that it makes singing seem a bit easier. Would totally recommend it to anyone who is performing live. I use it in the church, and the sound is just amazing. Honestly there is nothing about this mic that i don't like. It is lightweight, it is powerful, sounds amazing, If you are thinking of buying it, don't hesitate, you won't be sorry.

Simply the best

Sound engineers are always happy to see me turn up with this mic. Simply one of the best vocal mics you can get, and works very well on instruments also. Highly recommended.

best sounding mic for live acoustic gigs in my expirience

I use this mic for live acoustic performance. I play and sing in acoustic trio, and with this microphone sound of my deep baritone voice is clear and always cut through the mix!

Very good frequency dynamics. Nice clear warm sound. Used for vocals. No need for features so it?s not a negative. Great mike.

A great vocal mic

This is a great vocal mic, the only fault I can find is the body is slimmer than other mics so it doesn't fit into a standard mic fitting very well, you need to use the supplied clip. If you end up on the road that becomes less practical when stands get mixed up.

Quite expensive but very good. A warmer vocal sound than the beta58

Beta 87A

Great great mic. Needs phantom power so wont work unless you have it. For me the beta 87a is the closest thing to studio sound you can get live. I've actually used it in the studio as well and nobody has been able to tell. This is my 2nd one of these, the first being inadvertently left with a bag of gear at a bus stop, and the first thing to be replaced. I also own a beta 58 which I use if there is no phantom. Its also a great mic but the 87a is bit more expressive. I use it for singing and also play low whistle through it. I've also used in the studio on a number of instruments when short on mics

Excellent sounding mic

We bought one of these initially for a speech application to replace an SM58. No contest the clarity of this thing is superb. We have since bought two more for the singers. we still use SM58s for some vocalists who suit a warmer sound but if it's clarity and detail you need then this mic does a much better job. Also the feedback rejection is quite simply astonishing by comparison.
