SSL 2 Reviews
great sound quality
I use the SSL2 at my home studio, recording guitar amps and vocals. It really offers high-quality sound, very clear and the 4K is a must for the vocals. Now that I have used it for some time, I can say its competition is not at this price range.. It matches up with some other much more expensive alternatives..
SSL delivers!
Sound quality is amazing. I'm impressed
Great sound, even standalone
I bought it to expand my ins and outs with aggregate device, but the pres and the 4K option sound so good that it's become my standalone preamp of choice for when I play acoustic guitar live. And for this price you also get SSL's excellent plugins. A no brainer
A very impressive audio interface from SSL!
What a time we live in! Having a device with an SSL name on a home studio desk for €199? Wow!
Ok, emotions and brand power aside, the SSL 2 really is an impressive little interface.
The converters sound nice and clean, both on the input and the output. It was an immediate improvement over my old DAC, which was no slouch, mind you.
On the input side, the 4K switch adds a nice little airy coloration/distortion which can sound nice depending on the source.
Build quality wise it's very impressive. I very much like the classic SSL knobs look and the main volume knob is nice and chunky and feels great to the touch. The rest of the interface is precisely built and feels sturdy and massive enough, especially for the price.
All in all, I love it!
Wonderful peace of gear
First of all, very easy to use for your podcast or studio setup, very clear audio recording sounds
a must have for your first studio setup had your home ore on the road.
Fiyat performans olarak harika
Benzer fiyatları ürünler arasında uzunca araştırma yaparak SSL2'yi seçtim. 3 aydır kullanıyorum ve çok memnunum.
Henüz eksi bir özelliğini göremedim.
That 4K button though..
That 4K button earned me a grammy and got my family out of generational poverty. Now I live in a 4 bedroom house with a dedicated underground studio installed with an actual SSL desk though I still use SSL 2 out of sheer principle.
Worth every penny.
I bought this on the recommendation of a friend when I was upgrading my home studio set up. The quality from both the regular pre amp and the preamp with the legacy '4k' engaged is an enormous step up from what I had been using.
Sleek design, easy to use... I would be recommending this to everyone.
Best 2 small interface in the market
I couldn't be happier with this product, it is a clear sounding, with impeccable features that will make your home (or even studio) setup better. The 4K feature is nice, although it is not a decisive factor to buy this beast, I rather love the fact that it is silent in terms of noise (even when your crank up the gain) and the clarity and flatness of the pres are astonishing. I'm amazed and very satisfied, well done SSL!
Small form and excellent value for money
Solidly built with great features, I like how it sits on the table and has quite small footprint. Drivers are really good and there is no issues when switching USB between different computers. For home use this is beyond excellent. I have zero noise when recording or playing with Neural DSP plugins. My only regret is not getting the SSL+ for the double headphone outputs.
Excellent quality
It looks absolutely amazing and sounds good, especially pressing the 4K button. For me, the monitor level 'big knobs' makes me feel so satisfy. No software needed, plug and use.
Great sounding preamps
Sounds great, very easy and clear controls. Preamps sound great. Alot clearer and brighter to my ears than my previous Focusrite 2i4 on guitar. Just gets a bit of noise when cranking the gain past two thirds.
clarity
Very clear sounding interface, extremely satisfied with sound and design. + 4 expensive plugins included in price. Great deal.
Almost perfect
My only gripes are the following:
- No pad. This should be a basic feature on ANY interface, always. My medium output pickups run hot on palm mutes - I am a hard player, but this will 100% clip your signal if you also have medium to high output pickups.
- Worse signal:noise ratio when phantom power is on - this is negligible when you close-mic or mic up a loud source. Nevertheless, it's a circuit design flaw.
- (This is just my preference) The stereo/mono switch should be for the headphone/speaker outputs and not pass-through monitoring.
Everything else is fantastic!!
Honestly, this is a phenomenal interface and I'm incredibly happy. It also looks great, it's very solid and I love that the input/outputs can be plugged in neatly in the back. This is an AWESOME desktop unit, for a really (really!) good price (and comes with SSL plugins).
4k Button
Sidenote, the 4k button is a high shelf. It will increase everything above 1kHz (the shelf curve starts at around 1kHz and reach a plateau from 10kHz up). It's a little aggressive for my taste, but if you have a dull/warm mic or want to brighten your recording, then this will be really handy.
Pro tip: if you have old guitar strings, this shelf might save your recording. New strings are ALWAYS better, but this is a (very naughty) little cheat.
I like to work with this Interface, it can do very good at recording and mixing, I love the legacy 4k button, it gives a nice crisp to your voice. Also at the mixing stage I love the fact that you have 2 buttons of volume, one of them is specially designed for mixing. I also find useful the "Stereo" button.
the product is really good, but I cannot say the same about material quality.
Even though I turn off + 48V, sometimes it stays on , Half-touch the button is enough to activate it , this time we have trouble understanding if it is on and off.
their preamps are really good
When the microphone gain turns on and off quickly, there is a problem with the indicators
Apart from the buttons, I can say it is a very high quality and enjoyable product. has an excellent performance for its price
I wanted to share with you after a very long use
By the way, I am sometimes having trouble with the cpu in fl studio, I could not exactly know if it is related to the sound card, It works when I play with the buffer settings or go through the virtual sound card and turn over again..
Better than 2i2
So, I had a 2i2 for my guitar and bass recording at home. Soundwise and latencywise I was happy but didn't like the fact that the card doesn't like high gain pickups. I had to turn down the gain on the channel input all the way and still with some humbuckers it would clip.
That's the only reason I bought SSL2. I tested it and it handles humbuckers better. Still, I would like to have more headroom for guitar recording. On 2i2 I used to turn the gain down all the way, on SSL2 I put it on 1/4 and it doesn't clip with most PAF's and similar humbuckers.
Soundwise, I don't have much to say that hasn't beend said already.
This is SSL. What can be added to this?)
The very presence of this device on the table makes you take music seriously.)) The original handles of the console allow you to touch the legend..
Okay, this is a lyrical digression ;)
Sounds really great! The 4K buttons are very useful for getting brighter sound right away while recording.
Which is also very convenient for me personally - all the wires are behind the interface, and the control buttons and all the indications are on top.
In general, I am very pleased with the choice and of course I can recommend this interface!
Professional grade for home studio
I'm using the unit in my home studio, for mics/line instruments recording. I used to be a professional, and this unit exceeded my expectations. Great value for the money. Have some UAD interfaces and I couldn't tell the differences, besides it cost a fraction.
The preamps are crystal clear, and it's nice to have options for line/hi Z setups and separate phantom power for each channel. The control panel it's quite simple.
I can't tell yet the difference between the legacy 4K feature. It does change the tone, but is something I wouldn't miss.
Good quality
Sounds crisp and clear. No delay.
Comes with some nice plugins.
Very good value for money! Can compete with Universal Audio quality, and much cheaper :)
