About Steinberg
Founded : 1984
Steinberg is a German-based music instruments manufacturer founded in 1984 by Manfred Rürup and Karl Steinberg. The company was initially focused on the development of computer-based music production tools, and their first product was the Pro-16, a MIDI sequencing and notation program for the Commodore 64.
In 1989, Steinberg released the Pro-24 sequencer, which was the first program to offer MIDI time-stretching and pitch-shifting capabilities. This was followed by the Pro-24 Plus, a more advanced version of the Pro-24, and the Pro-24 III, which was the first program to offer real-time audio recording and editing.
In 1991, Steinberg released the Cubase MIDI sequencer, which was the first program to offer a graphical user interface and integrated audio recording and editing. This was followed by the Cubase VST in 1996, which was the first program to offer VST plug-ins and real-time audio effects.
Since then, Steinberg has continued to develop and release innovative music production tools, including the Cubase SX in 2002, the Nuendo digital audio workstation in 2003, and the WaveLab audio editing software in 2004. Today, Steinberg is one of the leading manufacturers of music production tools, and their products are used by professional musicians, producers, and engineers around the world.
