This mic is primarily targeted for smartphone video recording. I was looking for a USB stereo microphone to work with my VR camera, and preferably a Mid/Side one, since Mid/Side can be translated to AmbiX spatial audio quite well (and generally I'm a fan of Mid/Side stereo). I found the MV88+, and it does not disappoint. For smartphone use, you install the Shure Motiv Audio app to adjust the microphone's settings. Various modes from mono to the widest stereo and also Raw MS are available. The settings are saved onto the device itself, so the next time you plug it in it will default to those settings. Of course, this concept of 360º reality sound is misleading as it uses a 2-dimensional measure in a 3-dimensional space. Essentially, this microphone records directional sound from all surrounding sources and encodes the spatial direction (think vectors). On playback with the right configuration of speakers, this gives a truly immersive aural experience. This is a superlative product – strongly recommended.

I do field recording, atmosphere sound for films and relaxation. This thing is incredible for that purpose. Absolutely blows the built-in uni directional mics on my Tascam DR-100 MKIII out of water. It has zero self noise, you end up with a sound 100% clean of background hiss. I was so amazed by the total transformation of the audio I'm getting with this mic. Now I'm really regretting all the audio I have recorded with the built-in Tascam mics. Though to get the most out of this mic, you need to have high-end preamps as well.

First I hoped, that you could have turned the capsules in the end of the shaft, but after using the microphone in the first recording (choir) I realized, that the factory set angel is perfect and doesn't need any own configurations. Have been using this microphone to record and amplify choirs, classical orchestras, theater-plays and even acoustic guitar. The microphone has never let me down! Really low noise level with a really wide dynamic range! Rubber-shockmounted mic clip is also doing it's thing and working well!

The NT4 blew me away on the first few tests i did with it in the field - have yet to use in studio application. The build is very solid, quite some weight to the microphone. Sound quality is fantastic - representative of the price point. only some slight issues. One of the XY capsules doesn’t fully tighten onto the microphone itself. You tighten it to a point and then it loosens itself . I sincerely hope this will not be an issue in the long run. Another disappointment is that the microphone does not ship with a dedicated hard case - which would be very much appreciated for the price. Thankfully, i have built a foam case specifically for the NT4, so it’s not the biggest problem, but it would still be nice to have the option. It is possible that they left this out to keep the...

The Soundman OKM II microphones are truly excellent binaural microphones. So far, I've recorded street ambience, a choir in a Cathedral and done some nature recording with them and have been really pleased with the quality of the results. The noise floor is slightly noticeable for extremely quiet nature recordings (as you might expect) but, in practice, when playing back the recordings in a real-world environment I find it acceptable. For louder recordings, even for quiet street ambience, the noise floor is barely noticeable. I would, however, definitely recommend getting the Soundman windshields to go with them to avoid any wind interference and I have been using them with the A3 XLR adaptor. I originally purchased this for use as an overhead location-audio source for film work, however it's such a good mic it's seeping into my other work! Build-wise, it's the same as any other Superlux microphone - built like a tank, and then some. It feels a lot more expensive than it actually is, and that's not a bad thing, as it can take the battering that the outside elements give it. The sound quality is very clear and without distortion, even at the higher SPLs. It comes with a clip, a wind cover, and a 5 pin XLR to 2 x 3 pin XLR cable. I'd reccommend doing what I did and getting a seperate shock mount (due to the slim body it fits the t.bone SSM 4 very well), and invest in a better wind sheild - I used my BOYA Furry windscreen from my Tascam DR-40 with it no problems. The microphones sound just awesome and the ability to make 3d binaural recordings on such a price is excellent. However, be forewarned that these microphones may not last you a long time. At least they didn't for me. I used them mainly clipped on my shoulders, but I kept the clips on in order not to wear out the cable. However, after about 3 years of occasional use they stopped working. So I ordered a new pair. That already shows that I still really like them. Mainly considering the price. You just have to be aware of their reliability issues.

This is my second 418s mike, the first one was unfortunately stolen from me. I use this MS microphone usually in documentaries for simultaneous recording of dialog (M) and atmosphere (S) or in future film for atmosphere recording. PROS: - size (like normal mkh 416), - comfort of using (stereo in the size and weight of traditional shotgun), - durability (metal cover), - stereo in MS (recording clear dialogs in M, I can decide in post how wide the stereo should be). Cons: - the side mike (S) has really high self-noise level, - the 5-wire cable weigh quite much. It is good to have it as an additional mike on movie set, but I would't record music on this.
