Great hanging mic for live gigs

I bought 2 of these for gigs as an alternative to hanging an SM57 (not much room for mic stands). sometimes tricky to get them to sit flat against the amp, but once you get the XLR lead in the right position these pics are brilliant. No feedback problems, great quality, well constructed. I'd definitely recommend these pics for any band that need to mic amps but don't want to use mic stands.

For the price this can't be beaten!

I got this to mic up my old Marshall 1x12 combo amp and it works perfectly. The sound reproduction is quite remarkable. So for the price I can't complain. The only thing I can't comment on it is it's gigging durability over a long period of time.

i was sceptical due to the price, but after using it a few times it reproduces what i gave it very well.

I use it on guitars amps primarily, but have also had decent results on drums

The best budget solution?

Over the years I have used many different microphones of varying prices and quality when miking up my guitar amps. The ubiquitous Shure SM57 obviously has become the benchmark, but for the price, I felt there had to be a better solution.

After much searching, I found this Superlux mic and having heard a couple of encouraging sound clips online, I decided to take the plunge.

The mic itself is very well made, with a metal body and large head. Its an unusual diameter though, so you need the supplied clip to attach it to a mic stand. I did find that attaching it to the clip initially involved more force than I was expecting ? to the point that I thought it would break, it didn?t and it has got easier as time has gone by.

The supplied clip-on goose-neck hasn?t been as useful as I thought, as I have found that when using it live it is easier to dangle the mic over the front of the amp supported by its cable ? the sound when doing this is brilliant!

For recording, I have found it best supported by a small stand. I have used this mic for recording my amp AND I?ve found its great for acoustic guitar. It?s got an incredibly detailed sound, that is far beyond its inexpensive price tag.

In short, this mic punches well above its weight!

This mic is simply amazing for the money, were you would pay £93 for the industry standard competitor you can have 3 of these for that price, all coming with their own clip which makes it a no brainer! the sound difference is pretty much negligable, not had any problems with any hum that i have read about in previous reviews either. I would buy these every time!

Great Mic!

Overall, I have given this mic 5 stars for numerous reasons.

Firstly, it surpasses most mic's I have used and price considered, it is considerably better.

The presentation of the mic is great coming in a leather/pleather carry case which is useful to transport around for gigs. It also comes with a stand so you can use it to mic up a snare drum or whatever application you need use it for.

I primarily bought this for basic You Tube videos and gigging. I've used it on two videos so far and it represents the tone in the room very well. I haven't had chance to compare this to a more expensive model (Like an E906). I hope to do this in the near future. Please check my You Tube channel to see (Damo636)

The build quality is flawless on the one I've received. I don't know if this would be the case for other ones as it's so cheap but I'm impressed.

For my needs, I would not purchase another mic. Price considered, this is FAR better than an SM57 for home recording/function band gigging.

Superb value for money

I bought a 628 as was getting fed up of venues not having enough mics or stands for the guitar cab, the clamp works well on most cabs and is unobtrusive, the mic is well built if a little thick.

But the sound quality is comparable with Sennhiesers, and this is gigged on a very regular basis.

Sound engineers seem to love it, what more could you ask?

For ages I was hanging my sennheiser e835s over the top of my amp and although it wasn't ideal it was a great way of getting my amp sound into the PA. I bought one of these recently to make sure that the best signal was getting to the mixer and I'm not disappointed. The mic hangs over the top of the amp perfectly and is a real neat solution if you don't want to use a stand(which I didn't).

The mic also comes with a clamp to help you clip it onto a mic stand or with a little fiddling, onto an amp cab.

Perfect mic for the price. It feels nice and sturdy so hopefully it lasts for a long time.

Superlux is that close to Sennheiser

I bought this microphone and was able to compare it to a Sennheiser E609. Both of these microphones you simply can hang (attached to a microphone cable) in front of your guitar box. That makes an easy setup. The Sennheiser sounds super, no surprise in that. Then i tried the Superlux. First off it sounds a little dark compared to the Sennheiser, but not bad at all! I then went to work on the equalizer, moderatly pushed the treble and added a very little mid boost.

Thats it! The guitar sound was and is awesome over the PA, it sounds just like my amp. The Superlux also doesnt appear cheap in any way. Its made from metal and feels pretty tough.

All this for a third of the Sennheiser price. Definetly worth it!

Great mic at this price, no need for another mic stand, sounds every bit as good as a 57 less than a 1/4 of the price of the Sennheiser equivalent, no brainer really, Great Mic

Best value for the price

This mike is similar to the famous sennheiser but a lot cheaper. I use it to record heavy guitars because my previous condenser mike was too bassy. This is mike is perfect for amp recording. I also have other SuperLux mikes and headphones and the quality for the price is amazing. I give 4 stars because I tried the sennheiser and the sound it's not the same but pretty close.

as regards value for money this amp mic has no comparison, it is responsive and bright, distance wise it needs to very close to the amp and extremely sensitive to direction as is explained in the literatue

Good Mic

Great option for quick mic placement on a guitar amp on a tight stage. Sounds good for the price.

good choice fot the price

It's a great mic for the price. I use it with my guitar amp for recording and it gives good sound without too much trouble with positioning in front of the cab.

The clamp is a bit strange, since it doesn't fit around the mic and therefore attaches at the cable.

Cheap Mikrophone with high quality sound

I bought this microphone to make my first experiences with microphoning my guitar amp. The installation of the microphone is pretty easy and you do not have to be an engineer to make it work. There is a construction for hanging the microphone at the amp, but it`s a bit tricky to fix the microphone and it does not look very stable. I have expected something stronger. But honestly I didn`t by the microphone for the holding but the the microphone itself.

An XLR cable is not included but forunately of have enough at home. The first recordings sound great! There is nearly nur random noise and the sound of the guitar is recorded very clearly.

I only can recommend this microphone (not only for beginners).

Excellent value...

...marred only by the mic clip, which is *incredibly* tough to fit onto the mic - you have to put so much force into it that it feels like it's going to break. Doesn't stop the mic being awesome, though; it's not quite on the same level as the Sennheiser E609, but it's damn close.

Spot on sound.

I bought one of these microphones about a year ago and was immediately impressed with the build quality, it's solid yet light and comes with a goose neck clamp. The sound is crisp and full bodied, I use a Fender mustang II and mic it through a berringer 900watt pa into Peavey 15" cabs, the versatility and beautiful tone I get has to be largely due to this microphone. this particular Superlux, is used by our bassist and he is more than thrilled with it , so much so that he has thrown away the compressor he used to used to give him a bit more punch. Excellent product.

Does the job

I use one of these with my guitar amp to get the sound through the PA system for slightly bigger gigs. It does what it is supposed to. I had a minor issue with one of the screws getting lose (I pack and unpack my gear a lot and gig about 30 times per year) but that was easy to fix. Overall it is a good amp microphone for the price.

A viable replacement for the Sennheiser e609

The Sennheiser e609 shape makes it uniquely useful in a situation where a stage needs to look clean or stands are in short supply. That was until I discovered the Superlux PRA628 MKII. Shaped like the 609 it can be hung over the front of the cab.

I first discovered it while touring with a band as a sound engineer. I had let the house engineer set up and patch the mics on stage. We did the gig and I went up to the stage afterwards and happened to notice what I thought were oddly shaped e609's on the guitar cabs. It was only when I asked the house engineer about the mic that I realised what they were. I'd thought they were 609's all along from the sound.

When I got home I looked up the 628 and was amazed at the price. I immediately bought two to go with an order of other things that were needed.

Since buying them they've been used most nights on guitars, horns and percussion and they've done very well. The clamps that are provided with them come in useful for attaching to the rims of drums etc.

My only issues with these mics are the fact that the body is quite think. It doesn't hand quite as tidily as an e609 but it works well enough. Also, the stem on one of them started to come slightly loose but tightening the two Philips scres int he body fixed this.

They sound great and for the price they're amazing.
