Very good microphone with some handling problems

I bought this microphone because a befriended trumpet player recommended it to me, and I have to say that I do not regret this purchase at all.

I wanted a microphone that is dependable when playing live and provides a good sound.

Features:

It comes with a condenser microphone, a mini-XLR cable and a battery supply. So if you want to plug it into a PA, you have to buy a XLR cable.

For me the cable is long enough so that i have no troubles when changing instruments, even when it gets hectic.

Sound:

I did not expect very much from such an inexpensive microphone, but it totally blew me away! The sound is more than good, very brilliant, but nevertheless with a good punch in the low register. I use it for saxophones, and it can absolutely take on my Shure Beta 98 H/C, which is about five times the price of the superlux.

Quality:

Nothing to nag here. Totally does what it is supposed to, i had no trouble at all. I think here you can see the "ideal" - the AudioTechnica ATM35, which is of the same quality.

In conclusion I can say: If you want a very good microphone to a very good price, get the Superlux PRA-383D!

Excellent and robust wired mic for the price

I got this for my son to mic up his trumpet for use in his band. The power supply / DI adaptor is extremely well made and feels like a professional quality item. The mic and its clip feels vulnerable, but we have had no problems in over 12 months of (less than careful) stage use. Battery life is excellent.

I have only heard it in a live situation in a pop/ska band, where it has always sounded very clear and natural, with no hint of harshness, clipping or overloading. Feedback was also not a problem, provided the usual precautions were taken.

We found that the lead from the mic had to be left very loose as the mic picked up mechanical noise from the valves if the cable was kept neatly against the instrument (probably vibrations travelling down the cable to the mic capsule).

The only critiscism applies to wired mics in general, and it is that to put the trumpet down and play another instrument, it is necessary to unplug the mic from the powersupply/DI, and you can't use a 'normal' trumpet stand with the mic clipped on, so that usually needs to be moved, too. This has led to some frantic moments on stage occasionally.

We bought it not knowing what to expect, but I have to say that I'm very impressed with it, and would recommend it for a live situation (with the caveats about wired mics in general).

Excellent microphone for price

Bought one of these microphones to try it out...completly bowled over by it...great sound out of it, and a very handy clip. Have used it on Fiddles, Banjo, Bodhran, Accordions. So handy.

Two small problems, the lead between the mic and beltpack could be a small bit longer, and also I had the mic clip itselt seperate from the gooseneck. Nothing a spot of hot glue couldnt fix however!
