tc electronic Thunderstorm Flanger Reviews
Great, especially for that price
This is a really good pedal, for a very affordable price. It has all the dials you need, and produces a great sound. I am very happy with it
Nice Pedal, Nice Tones
Bought this as I didnt own a flanger for some reason just plugins and software versions and its a really affordable and durable unit. It has all the features and controls you need to get those types of tones, I was mainly looking for something to play The Police/Andy Summers stuff and didnt want to shell out €148 for the EHX Electric Mistress and this pedal gets me close enough to the tones Im looking for and it cost €50.
I was expecting it to feel cheaper considering its only €50 but it has a solid metal enclosure and nice feeling control knobs which stay in position and a footswitch that doesnt feel like its going to die after 10 presses. So if your in the market for a Flanger and dont want to stump up the money for a Boss BF-3 or Electric Mistress than I would thoroughly recommend this unit for your pedal board.
A awesome Flanger
That's my first Flanger pedal, and I'm very glad to have brought this one.
The pedal is very well-made, super strong metal/aluminum box that seems will last forverer.
The audio sounded great to my ears, the controls act as expected ... you can reach since a very subtle to very noticeable classic flanger sound.
Love it.
Simple but effective
I've been able to use it as a chorus, phaser and flanger so far. I've used it when I play with my band and in a gig once, so it helps that it's built like a tank.
It has a sound I like
Been using software for a long time. This hardware has a sound I like much better. It's not too over the top. It has a very musical sound to it that works well with my guitar.
Very sturdy and electronically quiet. No hum etc.
Goof flanger for synths
This review is written by a synth user for synth users.
I bought Thunderstorm for my two synths: Odyssey and Model D. It works well for both. Sound-wise there's nothing to complain. It does its job of being a flanger pedal.
From a synth user (sound designer) perspective, this pedal is not very versatile. It's not bad as many other flanger pedals are even more limited. I would say that it allows for different sonic palettes but for real experimental users it may lack more extreme settings.
To summarize, it's a good flanger pedal for synths if you just need a flanger and you don't want to go into any extremes. Leads, pads, basses - it will do. Crazy, strange, aggressive sounds - look for something else.
Nice Flanger sound with some extra tweaking options
Use it for fun when noodling and for 'come as you are' in stead of a chorus. Bold as love is in the list as well.
Easy to use and good sound.
Great sounding and sturdy cheap flanger
I was looking for a classic flanger sound and the Thunderstorm did not disappoint. You also get some nice subtle chorus-y sounds, as well as some wild stuff, and everything in between.
It’s built like a tank, the only critique I have is it could be a bit lighter, and maybe a little smaller (if you’re tight on space on your board - although top mounted jacks do help with this)
It fits in nicely on my board next to some other top mounted pedals I have, YMMV.
All in all, very good quality for the price! Big fan of this series from TC.
Like the sound
I like this pedal a lot and the flanger sound it creates.
Pros - it's cheap, sounds really good and the construction is very solid - much nicer than Behringer pedals in the same price range. All connections including power are on the back of the pedal which means they can sit nicely side by side on the pedal board
Cons - the Smorgasbord range of pedals seem to be often one-trick ponies, I bought eight of them, and several are underwhelming whilst others like the Prophet, Thunderstorm, Honey Pot fuzz and Compressor are great. The main con for a lot of people is their size. They are big and a little heavy.
Just Tweak
This pedal is of fine quality and cheap. To get your sound, you just need to play around with it and tweak. From heavy Cure-like flanger sounds to nice Phaser sounds.
Good sound, but not really dynamic
The "manual mode" controlled by it's knob is't doing it really well,
Better if leaving it autoflanging
Sounds good but not very tweakable sound
Sounds good but is not really tweakable, so I bought the Vortex flanger also from TCe and I'm very happy with it.
Excellent value
This line of pedals from tc seems pretty good in general.
Sounds awesome, especially for its price!
Until now, I've got no complaints. Does what's supposed to do and it's built like a tank. The only inconvenience might be the size if you want to put it in a mini pedalboard or something like that. :)
Flangetastic
This is an awesome Flanger that is well built, sturdy and offers a huge range of flangescape. So much so that you may take a while foaling in the sound you’re looking for however, this is an amazingly versatile pedal and at a fantastic price from one of the better pedal makers. Even if you don’t get on with it, you’ll probably not loose much selling it on.
Homerun by TC!
For the price and the amount of tweaking this is an extremely good sound pedal.
Get it and solve the flanger need for a measly 30 euro.
Wait, get two and make it stereo.
One of the nicer new TC pedals
Not what i was expecting
I was expecting something more different in the sound but i cant blame the product, its really cheap and it gives the effect.
Buy it if you want to try a flanger.
Unbeatable quality for the price
This pedal produces a clean, warm tone modulation and you have access to a wide variety of sounds by playing with the knobs.
The box is big and heavy, which I personnaly like but this is a subjctive matter.
Hard to find better for the price.
I am a big flanger fan. I have a flanger in my guitar pedalboard that I love and when time was scarce and not enough to connect my pedalboard, so I had to plug directly into the amp, I missed having a dedicated flanger.
I found this before Christmas and, after liking what I heard online, I ordered one and liked it very much.
It's a cheap heavy pedal, but resistant and durable, it offers a good variety of sonic possibilities and it sounds good. It wouldn't replace my 8 ear old Neo Mistress but is a good substitute when I can't use it.
I mainly play Metal with lots of clean passages and I use flanger in most of those cleans, inspired mostly by Machine Head. I like to put it before the amp/distortion to smooth the effect and give a liquid vibe to some passages and, sometimes, to generate some chaos in long double note bends, sustaining notes or generating oscillating feedback, also like Machine Head.
It is not a perfect pedal, but to start using flanger or have a solid back up is a great value for the price!
Quite good overall
Not an exceptional pedal, but quite good for the price tag. Good option if you don't want to spend much or are a beginner.
