the box MA100 Reviews
Good for smaller stages.
In all fairness, I was using this monitor as a drum monitor for a full band set up. Although, I have just upgraded to a much bigger pair. This coped fairly well on a very loud stage - BUT (and this is an important 'but'), it overheats like crazy! Wouldn't recommend for anything bigger than an acoustic act, but saying that - nothing got burnt down. Good mark there!
Foldbacks or small PA
I bought two of these as active fold-backs for gigs and like the sound so much I occasionally use them as PA for small gigs and even use one as my amp for a guitar using a multi-effects pedal to simulate combi amps etc.......
Lovely clean sound for acoustic guitars and nice adaptable sound with effects pedal
Great Value
Great sound, almost great construction
While sounding way better than you'd expect at this price there are some obvious drawbacks.
The speakers perform great at almost any volume, no distortion when they are put to the test. They work well in both monitoring use as well as being used as active speakers at smaller venues (although the front-mounted input-output panel looks a bit awkward in that context).
HOWEVER, handling these kind of heavy pieces are everything but a blessing. No handles whatsoever, and the stackable corners just feels wiggley like an egg in a frying pan.
Still a really good buy, if you can live with the mentioned drawbacks.
Best price/performance
Was looking for something like it to use it in dancing lessons. It was surprised me pleasantly as not only it plays loud and clear but it's also built very strong and it's price is unbeatable!
Impressed
Not a lot of money but very impressed with the performance. For big gigs you need bigger monitors, but for small, semi acoustic concerts, and as a personal monitor, this was ideal. Nice warm sound from the 10".
Yes, PLEASE fit a carrying handle!
I have now used this item for several months and it has worked perfectly and provided excellent sound reinforcement. As indicated elsewhere, the lack of a carrying handle makes moving it a major, two-armed balancing act. I have just voided my warranty by fitting a £3 equipment carrying handle and that problem is now solved. I shouldn't have to risk my warranty to achieve that!
In all other respects, it is an excellent piece of equipment, very easy to set up and use. Oh, and please can we have a matching passive extension unit?

Handling is not too difficult as they only weigh about 30lbs but a carrying handle would have been useful. Very handy having tone controls on the amp just in case they are needed. The sound is pretty good and plenty loud enough for our acoustic band. Quality of build appears pretty robust and the front grill is very sturdy. Amazing value for money.
No Handle, Little bass, Not bad though...
We have recently replaced these (we have 2) with some Wharfedales EVPs which are brilliant. Anyway the Box MA100s aren't bad little things. We have used them extensively for nearly 2 years. The problem we had was that they dont really produce bass. So the sound gets very muffled very quickly unless you cut all bass frequencies out. I would say that these would be good for an open mic situation or solo artist in a small venue or for lifting vocals during practice.
As an acoustic band, we now only use them for amplifying vocals during practice. This works quite well for us as the new monitors are big and loud and completely unnecessary for practice. But by lifting the vocals above the other instruments we can practice without straining. I hope this helps.

Great quality mixer brimming with features: mic and line in, speakon connector for extension speaker plus line out to conect to another active mixer. For the price you can't get better than this for an active mixer! Only slight cons are: no carry handle and volume could be louder (it would struggle in a very loud band but fine for quieter or acoustic bands).
Easy to use...
Very easy to use and set up but a bit cumbersome to pick up as it does not have a handle, unlike the other one.
Monitor
The monitor arrived wel packed and in perfect condition. Performance is OK, good value for the low price, but the item is let down by the fact that THERE IS NO HANDLE!!! It makes the item very difficult to move about when transporting and setting up.
This is a big failing with this item. Monitors of this type are often transported from gig to gig and the lack of a handle make this a chore. It is a shame to let the item down by the lack of such a simple, cheap, feature...
Superb Sound Quality
A very well made fold-back speaker for stage use or as a stand alone microphone amplifier. The sound quality and finish are excellent. It has plenty of power to handle all types of sounds and music including a well laid out control panel on the front. The speaker can also be used on a speaker stand if needed. All in all a very good product which I would definitely recommend.
Ideal for small band
Having used this product for nearly 6 months i feel that i can meaningfully review it now.
At first glance it looked like a well built and well packed item. When we connected it up it was plenty loud enough, even for our drummer! Even at high volume the sound is clear and clean with no distortion audible.
The ability to 'daisy chain' these units allows for different musicians to have their monitors at different volumes, even if they are sharing a mix. This has allowed us to keep the stage volume a little lower which is all good for having a good front of house mix!
All in all a well built and thought out unit with a good range of connections and features. I would definitely consider buying more of these.
MA100
This product is very good value for money. Sure, it's not the greatest performer in the world and the speaker complains a bit when the volume is turned up, this happens even when the amp is putting half it's power out! But it's well made and on small stages has served us well. I actually have three of these and the 12" version is much better. The 12" even has that must have accessory a carrying handle, which the 10" omits. A carrying handle would get this product 5 stars considering the price.
