the t.racks DSP 4x4 Mini Reviews
Great budget Dsp
great budget option for a dsp just wish it had more futures more eq bands would be much appreciated the compressor/limiter function works good probably my favorite bit about it. you can just leave it plugged in hit save on your settings and it will never forget or reset even if you leave it unplugged for weeks it will remember the settings that makes it a great option for studio/desk setups where you just want to tune and leave it.
Awsome Product and Price!
One of the most versatile, accurate, and multi-functional tool I worked with.
Great value for money
Amazing product !
Very flexible unit !
I use it for my main PA Speakers !
very powerfull tool but flawed
It's very powerful and gives a lot of control but it has a little harmonic distortion for the price it's good.
Does a good job for adding DSP functions to a simple mixer amplifier system
This has enabled me too add, at a budget, DSP features to improve simple sound systems.
The 7 band parametric EQ works well, gate and compressor are OK, could do with a few more teaks, adjustable parameters.
I'm sure its memory constraints have limited the features but guys if it has the room an automatic level function would be great
And perhaps getting rid of the 1/4" TRS and using good old XLR's
Overall a good product, will still use it regardless, or should i say make the changes or else. Just joking
Thanks for a great product.
Studio gear.
Too messy for gigs, but great for the studio.
screens are a bit gnerdy, but OK for price range, very interesting as everyone wants different settings??
cool but...
Pros: small, compact, nice editing interface, sounds good overall.
Cons: outputs a really nasty sound when powered on/off, the power LED is way too bright
Great product
Looks rock solid, easy to use and best value for your money. Shipping is also really fast to the USA. More on this review when I test the product.
I'm very impressed!
I bought this on the basis of reviews- I'm only using it as a crossover and delay- but it is excellent! The software is intuitive and was easy to use! Enabled me to accurately feed speakers with exactly the correct signals and delay where necessary!
Amazing
For my needs is the best processor with the best price . I use the t.racks DSP 4x4 Mini to setup properly my two studio monitors (Yamaha HS8) in combination with the sub (Prodipe Pro 10s V3) and I manage to do it with DSP 4x4 Mini perfectly in detail
Top notch for the money
I say it straight away, I have used more DSPs in my career than I drank coffees and anything under hundreds of euros would have been a laugh in those days. But wanted something on a budget for the project studio, ran across this thing and I'm honestly surprised.
It's not perfect. The eg is soft and not particularly precise. The delays only come in steps of fractions of a millisecond and the software UI looks like, well, a typical German app from the 90s.
But none of that matters for this price! It was good enough to match up against measurements using SMAART and the result is pretty pleasant. The sound is on par with much more expensive units and it's versatile enough to deal with a typical stereo + sub woofer situation. Not sure I would recommend it for an surround sound work since the delay is simply not precise enough for properly tuning multiple sources to cinema level but for the home studio it's simply ground breaking.
Only one gripe I have is the software. It's really 90s blocky cheap windows stuff. These days things such as being able to increment values via mouse scroll, proper save dialogs or even being able to sync two channels together is almost standard. As both a programmer and audio engineer I think that it's pure laziness and lack of vision making software this old school these days. Fix that and this unit could become world famous and not just some obscure German home brand!
Don't beleive the acousticians - buy one!
Having treated my studio with corner bass trapping, wall mounted early reflection absorbers etc. I finally decided to upgrade to a larger set of speakers. To my chagrin, the bass in the room felt worse than ever.
I bought this out of desperation and I have to say, every studio should have one of these. Allowed me to linearise the bass response of my room by about 5dB with no drawbacks. The room measurements post EQ are clearly much better. It took maybe 4 hours to get a room calibration I was fully happy with, but I can't imagine mixing without it.
If you're a live guy, I'd still recommend it. You just need a laptop with Room EQ Wizard and to blast pink noise for a few minutes while you measure. You can gate, you can limit with an extremely fast attack and ratio, the headroom is pretty good and you can do the crossovers internally as well as band limit if you're trying to be gentler on your power amps.
The only downside (apart from the limit of the Parametric Filters)is the blue light is super bright. I just mounted it under my desk. You get six filters, it should be enough or something else is deeply wrong.
Who needs Sonarworks?
This works much better for monitors (if you know how to do it of course)! It's totally silent, has 7 bands + HPF and LPF fully parametric EQ, gate, compressor/limiter, delay, and routing options! I chose this over MiniDSP because of the balanced connections. One thing to take note is that I don't think the software works with Mac and you will need to have a Windows computer to use it.
my opinion
I'm using in my home studio installation. It's very cool! One thing - after swith off my subwoofer gets a big shot. It should be gentle power off.

Great dsp!
This is the best value dps you can get for the money!
I tried it in my home studio and live,it surely does wonders!
i also use it to route it in my bass amp as sent and return so i could get that extra features on my amp more eq and more compression!
Sound quallity is very good no extra hiss or ground problem and since it has all the ballanced connection it makes life easier,
But it could be better not hardware vise but software + alowing us to mod it also,,what do i mean by it,, adding on, bypass buttons in software for every path in chain eq,compression, etc and changing order of it,,also what would be nice to add midi support of software simple bypass option or change speakers like for example if you have 4 speaker on output, you could make feuture to mute one pair and play another,,, now for hardwar wise it could be great to control that software with a midi over arduino thats connected to usb on this dsp,,i thing these are crutial thing that needs to be done to be used in studio setting,,,
so conclusion time,,
is it worth it? YES
is it necessity? YES every big studio had some eq on the end of their signal path for monitoring.
is there better options? No i dont think there is any,,
Just buy it :)
Works as expected. Nothing to complain about.
Great little unit!
I have two of them! Bought one to adjust my living room sound system and other we use at church as a PA processor.
Theres is a compressor/limiter, one 7 band parametric eq + LPF and HPF for every OUTPUT.
No processing but gate and phase flip for input channel.
EQs can be linked, for example, linking left and right eq, one follows another instantly, no need for copying settings.
Crossover works nice, different slopes can be selected.
Matrix/routing is very easily understandable.
PC software works well for me, didn't have any issues. You definitely need Windows computer to access this unit. No support for Apple or other os system.
This unit uses 12v power supply and this got me wondering... maybe I should buy a third one for my car?
Top crossover
Best dsp i ever seen. You can do with dsp whatever you want (crossover,limiter,compressor...) Very easy to conect and use it.I use it for limiter and crossover for 2 passive speakers and 2 passive subwoofers.
Perfect product for that price
doing the same job as all the other DSP doing , but in very fair price, the only missing for me is a software for MAC. overall im highly recommended !
