The quality of manufacture is superb! (German engineering at its best!)(Should that be Craftsmanship?) The tuning pegs appear very modern with what looks like metal inserts. I'm impressed with how well they stay tuned. Only 74 strings to tune! (A bit different from guitars). I'm grateful someone else has fitted all the strings very neatly. Now all I have to do is develop my technique. A well fitting thumb pick is really essential to play this instrument (as I discovered) and although one is provided it would not fit my thumb at all. It appears to be about size 4 and stainless steel. The sizes range from 0 to 8 and my size now seems to be 7. If you are new to playing, get a good thumb pick that really fits you!

Though I am not a traditional zither player, I love to use zithers in my own recordings for their distinctive tone. For many years I have used an antique zither, but it is in bad shape and difficult to keep in tune. As such, I decided to buy a new zither to replace it. The Hopf zither is a wonderful successor and I am absolutely delighted. The sound is simply sublime. The Hopf shimmers with a beautifully clear and full-bodied tone. It is quite a departure from my rusty antique! The instrument has such presence and resonance. It is perfectly dynamic and responsive. A tuning key and a thumb pick are included in the box; the tuning key is particularly useful as you will need to tune the instrument upon arrival. This is a straightforward process and does not take long. I play it with a set of...

This is my first chord zither, so I don't have much reference point, but I'm quite happy with my purchase. The body is attractively decorated and appears to be solidly built (not to mention, made in Germany). The tone resonates well and is consistent across strings (none of the quavering I've experienced on some cheap instruments). The tuners seem to work reliably and consistently as well. While it only has 5 chords (whereas some of the included sheet music requires more), it seems like a great instrument for someone who is interested in learning and doesn't want to spend too much. It comes with a manual (in German only) and some songs as well, which is a nice bonus. No regrets, well worth the price.

I am new to this instrument and have tuned it a little differently to what it is supposed to be (without stressing it out i.e. Too lose or too high. I am enjoying it lots! I Must learn a lot more about the instrument though if I have time! Its a great instrument and even if you aren't well versed in it I find it meditative in any case. Have already played it in a recording and it worked good against my bouzouki.
