Bought it as a present for my wife. There was a choice between hang and this tongue pan, but i liked sound of this one much more. And now, after having it for a while, I can say that it was a right choice. Seems that it sound just sustains forever. At the beginning some tongues were not as responsive as others, but good thing is - more you play on it - more responsive tongues are and warmer and versatile sound is (I would even say magic sound). This is just perfect instrument for meditations. The only problem was the bag - zipper died pretty soon but we almost don't use it anyway. I would highly recommend this tongue pan!

Resonance, sustain, vibration, harmonics and stunningly beautiful! I searched for a very long time to find a tongue drum with rich, warm, harmonic overtones and long sustain without that metallic "propane tank" sound. This unique stainless steel drum exceeds all expectations! It looks as beautiful as it sounds, and people are drawn to it like none other. The Polaris tuning is hauntingly memorable and every steel "tongue" produces a clear, strong note. I love sharing the drum with my friends and watching their faces light up as they create real music. I use my new drum in meditative sound concerts with singing bowls and gongs and am overjoyed with the harmonic synergy that is produced.

This is a wonderful musical instrument! Deep, meditative, sound with amazing resonance! It's easy to begin to play and you can get better by practicing and watching some training videos (youtube, etc!) The main reason I chose this model is that it's tuned in 432 Hz! It's a more natural frequency that I've found it's more peaceful and "easy" to my ears! I can't find any main cons here (all are pros) except two small cons, that are also common to all other Ravs and most hand pans: 1. It's not made of stainless steel! 2. Case could be better! All in all, this is a fine musical instrument with the extra benefit that is tuned in 432Hz! :-) Highly recommended by me!! :-)

Until very recently, I had no idea about even the existence of these instruments. On discovering them, I listened to a great many video/audio clips before deciding on the scale I wished to play. Not an easy task as they all sounded really beautiful. The Akebono Scale has a distinct 'eastern' sound, very meditative. I sensed that I would be able to create a decent sound using the hammers but I really wanted to be able to 'connect' with my drum by using my hands. The drum arrived very quickly and was well packaged. It is a thing of simple beauty. Very tactile in its finish and very sturdy. The sound made by the mallets is really lovely and potentially very loud. I did not get the hang of the hand techniques straight away and was slightly disappointed.....but after a few days of...

For those crazy enough to read this, I am a complete amateur holy Muzak player. I prefer these metal tongue hand drums to the variety of overpriced & over rated, hang drums etc. Study the difference between African hand drums and home wooden tongue drums, and their offspring Caribbean steel drums then the Swiss designed portable hang hand drums for domestic use, now these metal tongue hand drums. They are more portable & give a more clear tone by hand or stick for a home instrument, hand drums of this type of whatever variety are not street or square outdoor instruments, if you want an outdoor band then go for Carribean steel drums. This French made instrument has the best tone and quality in its class. Once you bond with the instrument then the techniques follow quickly, just...

It's an astonishing thing if you've not heard or played one in person. Pretty much the only criticism I can level at it (save for the difficulty in sounding octave harmonics and that might well be me, 5ths are much easier to get) is that I now immediately want at least one more to get access to the notes not available on just the one and the price prohibits that (although they are worth the money in terms of quality.) Lovely though and if you want one for meditation rather than composition or recording the sound is something else.

A great deal of craftmanship and care has gone into the making this beautiful instrument. There are so many tones and harmonics available to explore on this handpan together with soft and loud dynamics and attack I think there are many years of enjoyable exploration ahead ! The sounds are fascinating. The handpan came with an excellent strong (and soft inside) fitted case which has handles for carrying and very useful additional straps to carry the handpan as a backpack. I would have liked the case to have an external pocket to hold gloves etc I highly recommend this instrument to anyone.

So I'm one of those annoying people who tap their fingers all the time. And this thing is perfect for doing just that. I have a Korg (something can't remember) beat pad which I was using in Cubase but the very slight latency and kinda hard touch pads made it very annoying. Having something acoustic like this is much much better for me, and i dig the way you can tune and change the sound of the pads by moving the little magnets! Good sound and very easy to play, much easier than say a handpan of which I also have a few. Cheers!

The first handpan I purchased arrived with an out of tune note. It was weird, because the package didn't show any signs of hits, so it means that this is how the handpan was packaged before sent to me. The second handpan I received (after sending back the first one) was okay. All was well until my 3 years old nephew hit one of the notes with his bear hand. The note is now out of tune and I have to send it back for repairs. Of course the warranty does not cover this issue, so I will have to pay for the delivery and the actual repair... Great. You can imagine my surprise. If a 3 year old has enough power to detune a note, then I can only draw the conclusion that the build quality is not that great. You have to be extremely careful with it... Also, another thing that buzzes me is that both...
