Vic Firth 5A American Classic Hickory 5-stars Reviews
Consistently great product!
I play 6 nights a week 3hrs a night and these are my stick of choice. Long lasting, comfortable and a 12 pack will last me over 6 months. Great value in my honest opinion.
If you use this size, can't think of better sticks
I went from using 5b's to 5a's, (playing more jazz now instead of rock). Granted, I've not tried many other sets of 5a sticks (2 or 3 different pairs), but these are by far my favourite. The balance is really nice, and they last pretty long too. If you use this stick size, can't recommend anything else.
Can't go wrong with these classics!
I recently bought some nova sticks which are cheaper than these and thought they where fine. However, when going back to these sticks you instantly feel the quality and they also last a lot longer.
Don't hesitate to buy these sticks!bish bash BOSH!
The Classic
I have tried out a number of different stick models in recent months and I always find myself coming back to the 5a's. Stick's are always perfectly weight matched and have a consistent balance point. Vic Firth's are generally pretty durable sticks.
exellent drumsticks
Let me start by saying that I've been drumming for over ten years, and have gone through many kinds of cymbals, heads, shells, and, yes, sticks. I mainly stick with Vic Firth, as my style of playing matches many of their models. However I decided to go on a whim and buy a pair of them because I had heard how long they last. And boy, they do NOT lie! In the time that I have had just one pair of these, I have broken 4 pairs of wooden sticks based on my normal playing schedule and switching out between pairs for feel and sound differences. But these are good! I love the feel, the weight and the sound. But durability is the watchword here, and if you're jamming for long hours like I do, do not wait- invest in a few pairs of these now!
Must Have
This is a must have set of sticks for any drummer. Giving a great sound with a phenomenal weight to balance ratio. used mostly for recording sessions and live performances. Cant use words to express how good these sticks actually are! Great!
The "default" drumstick
To me, the Vic Firth 5A American Classics are the standard of drumsticks. These are well-balanced, well-matched, great sounding drumsticks. As a drummer of small stature with hands that are on the small size, I find these sticks to be of just the right size, both in length and diameter, and weight for general playing. The bead of the stick also gives a good, clear sound on the cymbals. For slower, heavier songs I prefer a 5B or other bigger model, but for faster stuff and for lighter playing that requires less volume, these are great.
On the negative side, I find that while these sticks hold up well even under fairly heavy playing with constant rimshot backbeats, they're not as durable as e.g. Pro-Mark's equivalent 5A model (though I've never had a Vic 5A snap on me within minutes of starting playing, as has happened with some other sticks). The wood tips also have a tendency to chip, so they may not be intact at the end of a 50-minute set.
Vic Firth 5A American Classic Hickory
Bought these at the request of a customer who is a world class drummer and a heavy hitter. I've seen other drummers who don't hit so hard breaking sticks during gigs but the fact that this drummer can get through a full gig and only knock a few chips out is great testament to their strength and durability
You just can't argue with these classic sticks
I think these 5As could suit just about every drummer. They're well made, straight and rock solid, with a good feel and weight, and a suits-every-style tapered wooden tip. I also like Vater's "Excel" sticks and there are a few other styles of tip in my bag, but if I had to travel with only one pair, it would be these.
"Industry standard" sticks
Vic Firth sticks are a sure choice for all styles from jazz to rock. Durable enough, great touch, reasonably priced. Have tried all kind of sticks, always coming back to American Classics.
Fantastic sticks
These are pretty much the "standard" sticks to try in drumming - if you're unsure what sticks to get when starting drums, get these! Don't try to save money by buying cheaper drumsticks - the difference is unbelievable, these feel so good in your hands and they're really nicely balanced (and they're still very affordable!).
Excellent sticks!
Vic firth sticks, good finish and strong, the 5A's are the medium stick, standard length. Good for general playing but too heavy for jazz/light touches, (go for 7A). For heavier applications, if the 2B's are a bit too heavy, a better choice is the VFX5A extreme, which are slightly wider and a half inch longer
