Amplification is very important when practicing bass, and this is the only amp that lets you walk around jamming with your headphones on, it's a shame they didn't put a bit more effort into it.

Excellent for its price.

A bit noisy but handy for travelling

I think it's a good option when you don't have your normal size amp, but as mentioned in other reviews, some hum can be heard, especially when gain is higher than 7 aprox. Apart from that, this tiny amp is an interesting option for travelers.

Great Headphone Amp for quiet practice!

The Vox Amplug2 Bass is a great headphone amplifier for quiet practice at home. With it, I can practice bass guitar without bothering my family or neighbors and still experience a full bass sound!

The Vox Amplug2 Bass has built in rhythm patterns that are played via digital drums. I rarely use them, but when I do it is because it is more fun than listening to a metronome click.

The Amplug2 Bass is suitable for use with both active and passive basses. I highly recommend it if you need to practice quietly.

Works but...

The item does what's supposed to, but the overall quality is not very good. Sound is noisy and not very clear. The potentiometers also dont feel very smooth and produces some noise on the output when they are turned.

Best choice for practice

Amplug is perfect product to me somebody can't have bass amplifier in a small house. Using Amplug, I can practice without bothering other people by loud and unblockable low frequency sound from bass guitar and I can still have good quality sound during practice.

You can get awesome amp-like sound by using it with good studio headphone (mine is AKG K240S) without complicated parameter set. Built in drum patterns are really useful when you need to play with metronome (but no pure metronome mode available, all the 9 types are drum). fold-able plug design let it be compatible to most of bass model types. But don't forget to remove Amplug from bass before you put back you bass on stander or gig bag after practice.

For cons, I did found the apparent hum noise during operating as other review describes. I have tried to mute bass by knobs on my bass but it still exists. Apparently it comes from circuit design, not from bass. To avoid it, I suggest to turn the vol control low under "6" if possible. To elevate bass hearing volume, try to adjust from gain mode. High gain - low volume get low hum. Now I am comfortable without hearing hum during playing. Another cons as I mention above, no pure metronome mode can be selected. For some specific situation I think I might need to practice with pure metronome because too many note from real drum pattern sometimes confuse me.

By the way, I also tried to use Amplug bass with my guitar. It's amazing! It sounds great with fascinating texture especial with single coil pickup. That surprised me more than use with bass!

its perfect for what its made for

It sounds pretty good. Its easy to use. Its compact and pretty light. It is made of plastic but if you don't care about that then its perfect.

Very good sound

The amp is very easy to use and gives great sound. The possibility to plug a phone in to play along with a song is awesome too. I remember sticking earbuds in my ears and wearing headphones over them to play along with a song.

But, it's not a replacement for an amp simply because it runs on batteries, if it were rechargeable it would be perfect as an amp imo. There are also two modes (red light) that I think sound a bit weak, but that could just be my bass. The green light mode works really well. The knobs for adjusting tone and volume are not labelled very clearly so you will accidentally turn off the volume while wanting to change the tone.

I would personally say that the product is a bit overrated.

It's okay overall but so noisy.

I also have 'Vox Amplug 2 AC30' for my guitar. The AC30 is significantly better in terms of noise.

In general good for silent practicing during late evenings or nights. But if you can plug in your headphones to you combo and amp - do that and don't spend money to this tiny amp.

Solved my 'none amp with left bass' problem

I don't play out loud ever, so when I picked up the bass again I didn't want to have an amp taking up room. Someone suggested one of these and I am amazed at how well and completely it works. Once plugged in you're just playing away and hearing a great quality of sound for the money. The rhythm tracks are a nice bonus, although more of them would have been nice. It does feel quite plasticky in the buttons and dials but on the other hand it's cheap enough that it's hard to go wrong.

Handy

This is great for silent practice. I study bass in college, and unfortunetly I can't have my amp on at 2am while studying, so this has been the perfect product for me.

Absolutely fine solution for home practice

All complaints aside, this does exactly what I need it to and I use it 100% of the time whenever I play at home. The negatives below are more nitpicks than dealbreakers.

So on the positive side, there's a surprisingly broad range of beats to choose from and the basic sound that comes through from the high gain setting is more than adequate. It's super handy for playing along with audio tracks through the aux cable, and the battery life is quite good.

On the other hand, the thing is constructed from quite cheap-feeling plastic and none of it feels particularly sturdy. You need to be quite careful when plugging in and using it, which the instructions themselves mention, due to the possibility of snapping something. I also find the medium and low gain setting to be pointless, as even at full volume these are barely audible through my headphones.

That said, I am still totally happy with the purchase and will continue to use this thing very regularly, so if you're looking for a super compact home practice solution on a budget look no further.

Handy, easy to use

Quality is ok, plastic feels a bit brittle. Very handy, sound quality is quite good and drum loops are a nice touch.

Use it in conjunction with headphones and it's a decent set up for noise free practice.

Take batteries out when not in use!!!

Its more than expected and best way to practise

It's ok

It's an okay little device for practicing your bass on the go. However, do not except anything spectacular.

I bought this amp couple of years ago to practice my bass with headphones at home, but quickly switched to an audio interface at home, because of the sound quality. So now i use Vox when traveling and i can't bring anything better with me.

I ran that amp with different headphones - Sony MDR-7506, Audio-Technica ATH-M50X, couple of random earplugs. The best results so far were with ATH-M50X, Sony's expose all the hiss and aren't really usable with Vox. It's probably because this little device is just not able to drive Sony's (64? ohms). So the right headphones are critical with this amp.

Featurewise, i basically use the most plain settings - no overdrive, a bit of gain and bit of tone. Rhythm section is a fixed list and with no way to set the tempo. So pretty useless. However, you can compensate that with your phone, rhythm app and aux in.

Overall, it's okay to have it, but if you're looking for better sound and mobility, check out Phil Jone's Bighead.

I can practise anywhere

The integrated rhythm patterns meke practise on the go very easy. It just lacks a reverb option.

Amazing little toy

I got this so I can play wherever I want at home without disturbing the others, or when on vacation if I want to ...

Nice little toy, works like a charm. The sound is not perfect but is far from bad.

This is a must have to practise bass at your sofá. You can play it without been disturbed or disturbe anybody.

Inconvenients: 1- if you plug an external audio to play along you can be struggling with some web of cables. 2- If you have a bass with a plug in at the body contour you must have extra care or have an extension.
