Good and flexible practice mute
Having used this mute for a while now, it has opened up a lot of opportunities for me to practice. The mute does its job well, the sound becomes very soft, there's a little bushing inside that constrains the sound even more, you can remove it and it will give you a little more airflow and a little more volume. Which is a neat feature. With the bushing inside, the airflow is noticeably affected, the resistance is fair for a practice mute, I struggle a bit in the higher octaves with this mute but overall I am happy with it. Though the rubber band is starting to dry out already and showing cracks, which is a little unfortunate but it still functions well after 2 years. All in all satisfactory.
Keeping quiet about this
I bought this mute to lower the noise and keep my neighbours happy. The mute itself is a beautiful object, the materials, finishing and quality are fantastic. The sound is good - and probably down to my own proficiency that I don't sound like Miles Davis. Are my neighbours happy? Well, so far I have not heard any broomsticks hitting the ceiling below me. I will take that as a positive and say that the mute is doing its job correctly.
Wallace practice mute - nice product
Resistance is good & mute isn’t too heavy.
There is also a resister which alters the sound and can be removed. Tuning is good in all registers and I found slotting to be fair too.
Incredible noise reduction
Noise reduction is really good and it's indeed possible to play without the neighbours to hear you (vocal conversation noise intensity I would say).
Really good mute to practice alone but the pitch correction (a quarter of a whole step) is hard to make on the whole range. So it's hardly possible to play with other musician due to this pitch drift.
Also it's not easy to blow and it's less responsive. Which improve endurance and make it a relieve to play without the mute afterwards.
I would definitively buy it again as it allows me to practice everyday, everywhere.
Just note the existence of the TWC-M22C compact that can fit in the bell which is more convenient for transport.
Perfect for quiet practice
The tone is very nice, nice enough to record. The volume reduction is fantastic. The quality and craftsmanship is super. Highly recommended for quiet practice. May change the tuning by a 1/4 of a semitone, so you may have to retune after putting it on.
Excellent
I was surprised by how quiet this mute is. It adds a bit of resistance like any mute but makes it possible to practice in an apartment at any time of the day or night.
You can remove the metal insert to reduce resistance a bit and it's still very quiet.
Intonation feels manageable.
It weighs nothing yet feels robust and is easy to install and remove.
Wonderful mute.. nice soft sound and very much in tune
It might have a touch more resistance than the shhh mute I have, but the sound is nicer and more accurate in all registers.
A really great mute
I have to say I'm a beginner with the cornet, so take what I say with a grain of salt. This mute is frankly amazing in reducing the sound! I live in a little open space with my girlfriend and she says that she can hardly hear the sound and if she has headphones on her ears, she doesn't hear a thing. It's very practical and lightweight, you can also reduce or increase the dampening with the little sliding tube inside the mute. I can't say if it changes the pitch a lot, since I'm a beginner, but there are reviews on the internet for that. To be honest, it's crazy good for this price
Perfect!
The most important think when I am using a practice mute is the intonation...well, Wallace TWC-M17 has the best response on that!!!
Highly recommended!
Mute with sharper sound
Good workmanship, with sharper, metal sound (?) - in comparison with Silent mute pssst.. presently exchange, but play more on Pssst..
