Visceral Vibes 👍

I use this subwoofer as the companion to the Yamaha HS8 monitors, preferring keeping things brand matched (designed for). Excellent build and quality with lots of features that tightly integrate with the Yamaha HS monitor range. It transforms the overall range of your sound. As cliche as it sounds, a new dimension is what it does. At first I had it placed in the usual floor position somewhere central to the monitors. It sounded great but maybe a bit too much sub for this placement in my room. However, once I raised it off the floor on a custom cabinet it sounded cleaner with more articulation etc etc, a game changer. I always chuckle to myself when I read reviews stating these are not required unless you compose EDM or bass heavy music. I regard this as a complete misnomer. If you want to hear a bigger fuller range sound more articulated and relieving the workload of you monitor woofers then join the club. Instruments like synth, dropped down tuning with guitars/bass, or just for better music listening and or mixing then when we consider music being sound, why wouldn’t you need a more concise set up. I know the music I arrange is not remotely bass or beat heavy and the improved overall sound and feel is a stark contrast to using the monitors only. On the negative side, the volume dial like the monitors is not notched with only a centre position. In all, an extremely worthy addition to give your monitor field the kick it deserves, I would suggest even more so if you are currently running HS5 or HS7, as unlike the HS8 they have of course smaller cones with less bottom reproduction in any case. Staring the obvious there, sorry. Highly recommended.

Excellent Subwoofer

It’s my first subwoofer in the studio and I absolutely love it. It sounds great in my smaller studio room with HS8s, lows are nice and clean, plenty of controls in the back to get it sound right. All that with a very reasonable price, so I totally recommend it.

Great with HS8

Great sub with a pair of HS8. A nice sound, full of features. Powerful.

Good.

Good subwoofer, the bass is nice. Though you need to be quite a bit away from it to actually get most of the bass, pairs well with the HS8 monitors.

All about that BASS!

Great added value together with my HS8. Lows are cleaner than ever! The only remark I have would be to have a button to easy bypass... but to be honest I would need in rare occasions!

+ präzise Bässe

+ tiefer Frequenzgang

- relativ leise und daher nicht für ein Zimmer über 20qm zu empfehlen

Perfect Match

If you have HS7 or HS8 and a medium sized room, I couldn't recommend it enough. It might be too much for smaller bedroom spaces.

It needs room to breathe. Under a small wooden desk is not good :D

I have the crossover at 80hz with my HS8's. If I had HS7 I might be tempted to move it closer to 100Hz.

With some low end absorption and a room tune with SonarWorks or similar you've got a meaty sound

Amazing sound and build quality

I've always been a fan of the yamaha studio range and this is no exception hooked it up and immediately the whole room filled up with this incredible bass, highly recommend.

Completes the HS8 Package

I monitored for several years with a pair of Yamaha HS80s and more recently HS8s and I love their reliability, transparency and value for money. Adding the HS8S has transformed the listening experience completely. Highly recommended!

Saved the low end in my home studio

I moved to my new home studio with my Yamaha HS80M nearfields. I instantly noticed that the low end was missing. This Yamaha HS8S subwoofer saved it. Great sound, good options for cutting the lowest frequences if needed. Great addition to my Studio!

PROS: Great sound, elegant look, lot of lows for such small box, easy to plug and use. I think it is great addition both to small pro audio studio, and home cinema.

CONS: No cons so far.

This is a beast of a Sub, if you want to check the super low balance.

Not a necessity but definitely a great match for the HS 8 speakers.

HS 8s are perfect on their own, but adding this can really show a more club feel to the mix as a guide.

Pity there's no auto flat feature with a single volume control when mixed with the HS 8. Instead balancing between the two has to be done manually so you need to run test tones through at every volume when changed which is too much hassle. Doesnt stop it being 5 star sub though.

Fantastic upgrade for HS7

I have pair of Yamaha HS7 and those are great, but do not produce low sound well enough in my small studio. After upgrading them with Yamaha sub hs8s, sound is fantastic.

You just plug them together and actually forgot about it, because there is no need for anything else then enjoying it.

FANTASTIC! A must have for small space studio where you can not put 8" speakers.

Great for the price

Really cool sub for the money! At first i made it too loud, so i thought "uh, everything is getting muddy and messy here". So most important thing is to keep perfect volume balance between your monitors and subwoofer, then it will add great low color to the sound and improve your mixes!

Makes your house shake!

I bought this sub to augment the thin bottom end of my Yamaha HS5 monitors and I was not disappointed. To the extent that I could not use more than about 20% of what this sub can do until I treated the room to a bit of accoustic damping and removed/tightened a couple of the lighter items.

I was using it in a home dj setup but ideally you might like more control over EQing than a DJ setup offers to get the best out of it.

Yamaha HS 8S

This is my first sub-woofer for studio working so I can say that I'm not an expert when giving my judgement about this one.

At first it felt like it shakes the house more than it actually delivers sound.I believe that is explainable by the low (even for a sub) frequency response that it has got. You can of course adjust the bass level and you also have options for high- and low cuts which can help you through this little problem.

The sound quality seems good to me and the product feels sturdy.

I want to point out the little logo in the front that lights up when the woofer is on. Which is very useful if you suddenly happen forget whether the sub-woofer is on or off.

A fine choice.
