YAHAMA THR5 is amazing

I was thinking to buy THR10 or THR30, but THR5 was good enough for me.

High quality, small for carrying everywhere and can use batteries

Really good sound. If you are looking for a small amp (acoustic) for study only. You cannot go wrong with this one!

Excellent compact amp

Excellent compact amp for training and performance in small groups. Great sound, very nice design, solidly built. Works well also with electric guitar. I am happy!

Great for playing & recording e-violine

I bought this for my electric violin. For the price it is amazing (and beautiful) thing. I just have a feeling that as it is designed mostly for guitars, the effects are not that much useful for violin (I'd appreciate a choice of more different suitable sounds). What is amazing is the feature of recording/playback with USB, which works also with Handys, just unfortunately not the newer Samsungs (which I have...) Also the headphones output is quite weak, would like to have it louder.

Fantastic little acoustic amp

A lot of features that is not available in bigger amps. It feels like it's designed to add SRT features to simple pickups. I use it with the following gear:

If you make a blind test, nobody can believe that it's a guitar bought for 250 USD in 1984.

Brilliant little home amp and recording tool

Amp sounds great, period. If you have a dull sounding rehearsal room, living room or bedroom, this will save your electro-acoustic day. Great mic models, great reverbs, very acceptable chorus and compressor effects.

As a recording tool this works great as a first step, laying down acoustic tracks. Be careful with latency though.

Two drawbacks:

- USB computer volume (while recording) can only be set via the PC interface software.

- there are no presets. When you use this amp with multiple guitars, you might want those...

I have a THR10C too, which does have presets and a USB volume control.

Classy looking amp with refined sound quality

I am playing on a Fender semielectric neylon guitar and there is no feedback at all.

The amp looks great especially with the orange light and the beige color.

The sound quality is very clean. The effects (Reverb, Chorus and delay) are impressive.

The control app for the PC works fine but can be improved.

All in all, great budget acoustic amp and it works with batteries so if you buy wireless Receiver/Transmitter, you will be completely portable and ready to go.

Great size and sound

For transportation this is hard to beat. So lightweight it fits in my case for when I’m travelling without taking up a large amount of my luggage weight allowance.

Great little amp

I really like the tone of this amp! I use it mostly for a warm jazz tone with my hollow body, and it delivers.

I bought this piece mostly for outdoor playing, I recommend getting a pair of rechargeable batteries. I honestly can't remember how long a charge lasts because it rarely reach the end, but I guess around 6-8 hours.

The only issue is obviously the volume - it's meant for quiet/mid-volume. If you go high with the volume noticeable distortion will appear, especially in the low end. But jamming with other instruments in general works great, unless there's a loud drummer in the room of course.

What youd expect

Not going to burst ear drums but a nice booster especially in smaller venues (trad sessions in Ireland) where sometimes you might struggle to be heard. I also find it quite handy for recording to pc or laptop, the software it comes with too is decent enough. It has some nice tones. Check out some youtube videos for what to expect, but i wasn;t disappointed. Decent build quality too and some nice features. Does what it claims.

Great sound for a small unit

This is a great sounding amp! I had mistakenly bought it to use as an acoustic guitar and a vocal amp, all in one, but later realized that unlike the Roland Mobile AC it only has one jack input and an aux input which isn't great as a mic in. However, for just guitar, it sounds fantastic! Big sounding despite the small sound, some cool EQ presets (and I think you can tweak them very precisely, digitally, although I did not try this feature), two excellent and simple to use FX channels (compression is a huge plus and not something you usually see on these kinds of amps, and the reverb sounds great) and very light so it's great if you are on the move. It's slightly more expensive than the Roland AC but comes with it's own power adapter and weighs less as a unit.

Very good little amp!

I use it with my Yamaha A3R acoustic guitar and Cordoba fusion orchestra ce clasical guitar.

pros:

Very good sound, nice PC aplication.

cons:

Lack of proper bananced line out. Can not store presets.

quality sound from a small Package.

Great sound from a small amp. This is the second THR5 amp i have I use them at home because they give me a big sound and you can carry them with one hand.

I am replacing a 60 watt acoustic amp which is large and bulky and as i don't play live i don't need a large speaker.

Beautiful Acoustic Instrument Amp

I use it for various ukuleles and it's the most beautifully accurate sound I've heard from an amped ukulele. The mic simulations, especially the Tube setting and the Hall reverb are stunning. They actually improve the sound of the instrument. I couldn't be happier with it.

It's got the optional battery operation which makes it totally mobile as well, which is awesome. I've even started using it like a boombox sometimes, carrying it around like a radio playing podcasts etc. It's a really useful little piece of kit that I'm using even more than I would have imagined.

Yamaha THR 5A

Nice warm sound but not quite as loud as I had expected. The effects are not usable if you only would like to add just a little touch of reverb or chorus. The mike simulations are more of a pre set eq. One thing that really irritates me is that the amp turn itself of while you are playing. It has done so twice during the latest rehersal.

great acoustic guitar amp for home use

This is really a nice small and very amp to use at home. Its very small and light weight, but despite that it sounds very good (stereo!) and has fine build in effects. Its main focus is acoustic guitar, both steel and nylon string. You can create a wide spectrum of sounds with various mic simulations that you can blend with the piezo sound and a tone control knob. Also an electric guitar can be connected, and that sounds very clean, and that especially is good when using it with external effect processors or pedals. And if you still want more, just connect it via usb and start the THR editor to change all parameters and even reveal more effects (phaser, flanger, tremolo, various reverbs etc) which are not selectable on the device itself. One big negative point, the amp is not very good in low frequency tones. Don't put up the low freq EQ on your guitar preamp, else the speakers start clipping when you turn up the volume too much. I also own a THR10 series amp and that one has far less problems with clipping.
