Zoom G5n Reviews
Brilliant for the price
Brilliant effects pedal, packs a punch. A lot of different features, only thing it lacks is a looper over all your effects, and some snapshot buttons, brilliant sound, crisp and clear, great that it can be updated and download new effects, amps, cabs, modulations etc. Overall very good effects pedal, would definitely recommend!
Best multi-fx unit for the price
After years of playing around with several different types of these digital multi-fx units, and owning one or two as well, I always found issues with them. Sometimes it'd be a really difficult to navigate interface, others would have latency issues, some would have terrible processors that couldn't cope with multiple effects, many wouldn't let you route them differently and some just sounded awful.
Not this one. This one is amazing.
It's easy to navigate through (and create) patches, it's easy to change the routing, you have LOOOADS of options for what effects to use, even if you want 8 phasers for some reason this thing has you covered.
There's one crucial thing that they got badly wrong. If you want a metal tone, look elsewhere. I've been trying to wrestle a good heavy tone out of this for days and I'm not even getting close. As a metalhead this is a problem for me, but it's important to stress that is the ONLY flaw I could find and it's the only reason I gave it four stars rather than five. I wholeheartedly recommend this pedal to every guitarist. Especially for the price.
TL,DR: Metal tones were really bad, but everything else is awesome. Buy it.
Overall, really good product!
It's great for practicing with the built in headphone jack, and it sounds really good through an amp/speaker. The amp simulations sound great with the ability to make heavy metal rhythm and soaring leads, and you can still get some amazing cleans out of it. The selection of effects is very good, it's not just made for 1 genre, it's made for pretty much whatever you can think of! The 100+ presets cover a large base of genres, icluding funk, slide, rock/metal and a weird robot noise.
The only negative thing I can think of is the learning curve, but in comparison to other multi-fx pedals I have used the Zoom G5n is super easy to learn, and the manual is very helpful. Take an afternoon to just mess around and you'll have the basics down and after that you can get more into the other features!
If you plug it into your computer you can get even more presets, either from Zoom's website or from other forums.
Overall, it's an amazing product for intermediate and advanced players. I personally would not recommend for an absolute beginner as it's a lot to take in when you first start.
Very happy
I've just started playing guitar again after a 17 year hiatus. I decided a multi-effects board was a great way to effectively get many pedals at a fairly low price.
So far I'm happy with the board and the sound from it. I'm running it through an Orange Crush 20 and think it sounds great. There probably are better pedals and better more expensive boards but for playing at home this is a great buy.
I'll doc it a point for the Guitar lab software. It's awful. It allows you download patches & effects as well as rename these. You can't create new patches on it. These have to be done on the board which isn't ideal if you don't know exactly what combinations of effects you're looking for. I believe the older Edit and Share program was much better but this doesn't work with the g5n.
All in all I'd recommend. I can't speak for live or bands but for solo users it's great.
Great on a budget
Given it's price point, this is a highly functional product for both live and recording-the addition of cubase being a bonus. My advice would be to play around with your own patches as a bit of work may be needed to dial in your sound.
Manageable, Solid and...Sound's Preatty!
A very cool pedalboard from Zoom, for the ones who don't want to spend too much, but with a good result.
I tested the pedalboard at home and with my band, clean sound sounds very very good (with HH sets), hi-gain sound sounds good as well, but you have to spend a little bit of time to find your preferred combination between Amp and Cabinet. The most surprising thing is that you can easely set and find sound directly on your pedalboard...i owned a Line6 HD500X, it was very complicated to do so without link it on your PC.
Very satisfied, * * * * Stars for it!
