A Handy Budget Recorder

If you are looking for a budget recorder look no further. Coming from the H4n in the past the only massive difference in my reckoning is the inability to multi track record, and the quality of the plastic case vs the H4n. If those don't bother you though I would recommend it.

Good Recorder

Great recorder for anything. I plug to record music from mixer with Jack to xlr (you need an additional cable for it) Don't ever put maximum of the sound when your record from mixer, The sound will get BURN.

Maximum = 3 - 5 volume.

Looks like a toy, but is actually an excellent recorder

As many people have pointed out, this thing is small and surprisingly light, but don't let that fool you, it's a great two-track recorder.

The interface is very easy to use - so easy that you barely need to look in the manual. I've used this extensively using the built-in microphones and the line input, both work great.

The internal speaker is very small and quite tinny, so not generally useful apart from as a guide to what track you are on or whether you successfully recorded something.

Most of the time I use it with a mixing desk using the two-track outputs and inputs and in this situation it is absolutely perfect. If you set the recording format to MP3 then you have literally hundreds of hours of high quality recording time.

Definitely recommended, especially considering the price!

Good product

I was looking for some device to record our band practises and the Zoom H1n does the job perfectly. I just wished you could record in mono also to record voice overs/podcasts and such.

Good little recorder

I use this for recording guitar progressions and riffs on the fly, then review and pick out any that might be worth developing. It's a great quick and easy tool for this. I like it.

Cons. Feels a little flimsy but not been a problem as it's kept on a tripod.

I use it to record seminars, acoustic music and notes.

Its quite annoying that the battery is not rechargeable via the cable and i would rather have a device that plugs into the computer directly to transfer the files.

Otherwise great device.

Ideal for recording your gigs!

I was looking for a portable condenser microphone recorder, because I wanted to record my gigs with a higher audio quality. The recorder needed to be able to withstand the loudness of my gigs. However, I did not want to spend a lot of money on my first recorder, so my budget was limited. I came across this Zoom recorder because of its popularity and high rating. I decided that I would need a separate stand for it. After all, when I am gigging I cannot hold the recorder in my hand and play guitar at the same time. I found this little bundle with all of the necessary stuff that would suffice my needs.

The recorder does a great job under loud circumstances with the help of the gain knob and limiter. The quality of the sound is also great and the operating system is easy to use and the settings are easy to change to suit your needs.

Every gig I want to record I bring along this kit and I am ready to go. What's more, the recorder it self is way smaller than I imagined: A big plus for portability.

EASY TO USE, GREAT SOUND

AN IMPROVEMENT ON THE H1, especially the new rotary record level control.

Great for recording vocals!

For this price you have to give it to Zoom H1n... Yes the device is made out of plastic and if you drop it the battery cover may pop off like one of your old phones with buttons, yet, the sound quality is just on to the point!

I gave 3/5 for quality because in low-gain scenarios you can hear the noise being amplified, that is understandable looking at the price tag!

A good starting point

I used it for record almost every non-digital sounds. I have it for more than 6 months and I have no problems with its workflow. It has a very easy to learn and use interface.

It's made from plastic (except microphones). It's way lighter than I thought (I was compared it with Zoom H4 and H6 on my mind) but it's steady and stabile. It works well for collect ambient, atmosphere sounds and one-hit samples. Sometimes you can catch frequencies that you don't want but by using gain adjustments and build-in eq you can decrease them.

Well, pro's are absolutely the price and quality factors. You have some other options in this price range but it's one step ahead from in the segment that it belongs. In this point of view it's a god starting point for collecting audio samples and recording interviews etc. In the other hand if you want to record a direct signal for instance coming from a mixer or sound card, you do not have a line inputs. This may be a problem if you want to record a live session or a concert. For this I suggest you to buy H4 or higher versions, you can use them for both recording with build-in microphones and direct signal that comes from line-ins.

But if you want to start collecting audio, recording an acoustic session or an interview; this could be a very good choice in this price range.

zoom h1n

I bought this having previously owned the zoom H1 and am happy to say its an improvement on the H1,with the buttons now being mounted on the front its easier to use and the new backlit screen is a nice addition.Overall I found this easier to use than the H1 and not being technically minded its simple to use and gives great results like its predecessor.Thanks.
