Legendary
This is a legendary mic, for a reason. Bright mic, which I love. If you don't, put a windshield and that's it. Built like a tank. Polar pattern options are fantastic. Easy to set up. Compared to our Rode Classic II, C414 is our choice. Keep in mind that I'm writing this review four years after purchase. Negative reviews p***ed me of!
Great versatile mic - amazing for clear vocals and bright guitars
Bought this microphone mainly to record vocals. However, I tried out recording my acoustic guitar and loved it. The mic is accurate, provides a rich tone to recordings, with a great response to higher frequencies. I also really love the directional features. Whether you want to more precisely capture an instrument or vocals, or capture more ambience or even a group of people, the mic offers that versatility. The only thing I'd say is that if you want to record vocals for someone who tends to emphasize sibilance, I'd suggest trying out a warmer microphone instead, as with this one those high frequencies get highlighted. It's amazing for lower end vocals, though.
Problem with AKG
I bought this mike in July of 2020. I have recorded just one disc and some sparse takes. The care has been exquisite: from the stand to its box.
A week ago, I tried to use and it didn´t work. It received no signal whatsoever. The green light was on, but the buttons for mode change were also apparently broken.
Exceptional Performance in a Compact Package
Recently, I helped with the purchase of the AKG C414 XLII microphone for our university studio. Despite my limited knowledge of audio production, the unanimous satisfaction of our university studio team attests to the remarkable qualities of this compact yet powerful microphone.
Fantastic microphone
I have tried it on vocals and acoustic guitar mainly and it sounds incredible. Very clear and the sound has a real depth to it. It’s of course very expensive but you get what you pay far and this mic is an absolute workhorse. Highly recommended to anyone in the professional audio world.
Good mic
Great build quality. Sounds clean and expensive on pop and soft vocals. Not good for rock vocals.
Great Mic for all types of uses
simply love it, love the wide range of polar patterns, and its sounds crisp and clear.
Top Mic in the market
This AKG mic is truly powerful. The sound is transparent and clear. I tried it for both vocals and instrument. It easiIy captures the sound waves and details. I actually put my projects on hold until I had this mic delivered as I want to raise the bar in all my upcoming production. And now that I got it, I know that it will do justice to my productions. It is legendary.
One of the best microphones
Great condenser microphone for clean recordings. I've used it a lot with a variety of instruments. The sound is clean and transparent. It is not recommended though for vocals because you need extra punch.
Can Never Go Wrong
I'm a tenor and this is amazingly good for a trained high voice.
