AKG C414 XLII 5-stars Reviews
Legendary
This is a legendary mic, for a reason. Bright mic, which I love. If you don't, put a windshield and that's it. Built like a tank. Polar pattern options are fantastic. Easy to set up. Compared to our Rode Classic II, C414 is our choice. Keep in mind that I'm writing this review four years after purchase. Negative reviews p***ed me of!
Exceptional Performance in a Compact Package
Recently, I helped with the purchase of the AKG C414 XLII microphone for our university studio. Despite my limited knowledge of audio production, the unanimous satisfaction of our university studio team attests to the remarkable qualities of this compact yet powerful microphone.
Fantastic microphone
I have tried it on vocals and acoustic guitar mainly and it sounds incredible. Very clear and the sound has a real depth to it. It’s of course very expensive but you get what you pay far and this mic is an absolute workhorse. Highly recommended to anyone in the professional audio world.
Great Mic for all types of uses
simply love it, love the wide range of polar patterns, and its sounds crisp and clear.
Top Mic in the market
This AKG mic is truly powerful. The sound is transparent and clear. I tried it for both vocals and instrument. It easiIy captures the sound waves and details. I actually put my projects on hold until I had this mic delivered as I want to raise the bar in all my upcoming production. And now that I got it, I know that it will do justice to my productions. It is legendary.
One of the best microphones
Great condenser microphone for clean recordings. I've used it a lot with a variety of instruments. The sound is clean and transparent. It is not recommended though for vocals because you need extra punch.
Can Never Go Wrong
I'm a tenor and this is amazingly good for a trained high voice.
Perfect as a workhorse
The sound of this mic is amazing and so clean. Doesn't have the same mid presence like a Neumann. Low noise floor which is great. Super versatile. I've used it on drums, guitar, bass with other mics blended in. Always gives a nice sheen. Great first expensive mic. Wouldn't have it any other way.
Studio must have collection
It comes with a good looking hard-case with two tiny lock.
Pop Filter and Shock mount are included.
It got 5 polar patterns and intermediate features.
3-Way bass cut filter and 3 db option for cutting freq and volume.
It is good for recording vocals, piano, guitars, speech.
One of my favorite microphones
I record both acoustic guitars and vocals using the AKG C414 XLii and was never disappointed. Here's a sample: https://youtu.be/fEgwBjpxli8
I'm love it
I use it at the vocal (hip hop ) it sounds great, but be careful with the "s". Male voices may seem thin, but this is solved by post-processing
A microphone with a good history
Given the well-earned reputation of this microphone, I can add little to what has already has been said. I looked at other mics in the field for vocalists in studio situations. The nine different polar patterns was a significant aspect for me as in due course I will purchase another and use them in a stereo pair formation with a wide a cardioid setting. Given that the manufacturing quality seems to be high suggests the tolerances may be such that two may be used together without being a matched pair.
My C414’s first application as a soloist microphone was in a sea shanty choir where each member of the group did a lead for a song they had chosen. Each member approached the microphone in different ways using a pop filter from the bundle AKG provide. Some sang close; other more distant but whatever the take they all sounded as good one might expect given its long history from the legendary C12 forward.
Probably the best on the market
To be honest, I've tried many microphones. I decided to go for a professional ones. This is by far one of, if not, the best microphone I ever tried. And I've tried quite the variety which are well known brands (USB and XLR).
The clarity of the sound is just unbelievable.
The packaging is unreal: Comes in a metal box with the essensials, mount-shock, air pop filter, foam, a small bag for the microphone and the mic itself.
All the options are there for any kind of professional use. It would be an overkill for youtube but I don't regret it. Not one bit.
Only con i'd associate to this Mic is that it is extremely fragile and you have to be really careful with it. Other than that, it's worth every Cent.
It's not cheap but if you ask for perfection, you have to pay for it.
Recommend it to any passionate about Music, youtube or singing.
AKG C414 XLII
A classic and versatile mic with the 9 switchable polar patterns. with Iits highly detailed sound, this microphone proves as a great tool to have, whether it's recording any acoustic instrument or vocals (or even foley), it will provide you with a pristine sound with the right acoustics. Highly recommend with the reasonable price and the fact that you can record whatever you need with it
the best mic ever
Great mic
It is perfect for my studio.
Best microphone for this price range.
Fantastic Mic
This is the most universal mic used ever. This mic can be used for any application.
Having nine polar pattern settings on one mike makes it indispensable. My recordings have been greatly improved by the use of this mike.
Very low noise and detailed clarity. Crystal clear vocals with a nice little boost around the upper mids and highs give it great presence and will cut through the most dense mixes.
I am really happy with this purchase.
Sound good. Beware
Please bear in mind that the new batch of AKG C414 XLII is Made in Hungary and not Austria any more. Do not know, if there is any other difference in the product itself, because I have never used C414 before. Sounds good to my ears, compared to some other brands.
Great mic for anything
This mic is extraordinary in all aspects. Changeable polar characteristic, roll off filter... It sounds great!
In studio the vocals are airy and sweet and full, acoustic guitar is exact, hi-hat controlled.
In live I use it mainly for ambience if IEM is used. Great option!!! Also overheads are suitable.
They are not made in Autria anymore. Made in Hungary. I can not say if there is significant difference due to production country change. Did not use older versions of this mic.
