Low budget good monitor for gigging musician

The Behringer B205D has more features than you really need and for its price and quality it is a good deal!

In my case I use it as a keyboard and vocal monitor for myself in two rock bands. The unit has been unbreakable when going back and forward to gigs and rehearsal rooms without using any bags or any protection. I can't say any bad word about the controls or the layout of the monitor. The front face is well designed.

However, there are two problems when using it with mic stands. First, in the bottom of the monitor there is a hole for a custom attachment plug which is screwed on a mic stand. There is no tight locking and it feels flimsy. Second, on top of the monitor there is a screw mechanism for a mic stand boom. You can not adjust it sideways and lock it!

The unit has plenty of volume, but bass distorts at high levels. The sound in general is more about middle frequencies, which is ok for monitoring.

Despite of its shortcomings the Behringer B205D works well in professional work. It got good reviews also in a Finnish pro audio magazine. I recommend!

good little bit of kit

Not bad for low level monitoring, I used 2 in stereo for monitoring keys on stage,worked remarkably well for such a small speaker.

Great little monitor

These monitors are great for up close clear foldback. A little tinny but they do the job brillianty - also handy that you can turn them up/down independant of PA operator.

Mini monitors

We prefer the B205D's to anything else we have used. I have my guitar, mandolin and vocal coming out of mine (all set accordingly). The quality and volume is unbelievable given it'e size. Many times we have found them better that the big wedges when doing main stage work. One thing worth mentioning they are made to fit on mic stands. Solo or duo work they are ok between the stem of your stand and your mic. However for band work they work best on their own single stem stand. You can move them where you get the best out of them. A word of warning make sure you use a sturdy stand with good leg spread. if you knock them over there is a good chance of dislodging the driver off the speaker. You can get the driver back on(yes we have learnt the hard way) It's not easy but possible undo the unit from the front place the speaker face down take the dislodged drive and push on till it clicks on. I sure the repair guys will scream blue murder but you have nothing to lose they will go on, ours have. Yes we do have sturdy stands now with the legs set wide. We would not go back to wedges nether will you.

This little PA speaker is very loud and can stands against big audience. i used it for speaches for weding of 100 people and played background music during a meal.very handy as a back up.

Good monitor for no money

I have purchased two of these monitors. At first I wanted to buy Mackies that look just the same but the price is much higher. Then I saw these and thought I give it a shot. I heard from the guy who runs the sound hiring company that they tested both Behringer and Mackies and they didn't hear any difference in sound quality. However I can hear clearly the difference between those two Behringer I bought. The one of them has less pronounced treble/high end. It is very strange but they don't sound the same. The second thing I could complain about is that there is no way these guys can deliver 150 watts. I would say it sounds more like 20 or 25 watts to my ears but then again I am a guitar player and my watts are tube watts. Another thing is the power cable. The power cable that came with the monitors is a joke. It is not even enough to the floor when monitor is mounted on a mic stand. You should get another longer cable. Beside these small things I think that B205D is still a very good puppy for no money and it works in many situations, from just pluging your guitar in and play in bedroom to smaller events in pubs when combined with one 15" speaker. The sound is very middle oriented but the size/weight and mounting ability is just amazing. If you play at small venues or need a nice little toy for your home this is a go.

Behringer monitor

We use two 12 inch foldbacks and I wanted a little extra one just for me. Does the job very well. All the inputs are straightforward. Given its size it delivers an excellent sound and plenty of it. We now posiiton it to point at me and the drummer and we both get enough through it to make it a thoroughly worthwhile extra. I do not ask our sound engineer for a third monitor mix - I just loop it out of one of the main ( active ) monitors.

There is a button called "instrument" which is to optimise channel 1 for unbalanced signals which is pretty irrelevat for us. Tried it at home and it did not seem to make much difference. I have not tried rigging it up with the accessory that allows a boom arm to be added to the mic stand. I just pop it on a mic stand base and that works fine.

Good points - sounds better than I expected, does what it says on the tin, has not let us down

Bad points - none

Be realistic - this has a 5.25" speaker - unlikely to fully capture Jaco Pastorius bass solos at high volumes without a bit of distortion. For the size, superb.

Behringer B205D

I bought this little nice one monitor for using it as... well... a monitor! :) It serves me very good for it's purpose and I have to say it is a nice sounding little gem! What I like the best is it's class D amplification which makes this thing really light weigt. When you carry one it is a weird feeling - it feels more like you're carrying a teapot not a monitor. :) Consider this as a plus - it really is very light. You can mount it on top of a microphone stand and there are few knobs which are doing their job well. The thing sounds really sweet, loud and clear I must say! And doesn't cost a fortune, too! Sure you can find a better product for a much higher price but I think you can be sure that this thing is the best bang for your buck. As for me - I like it and am considering buying another one soon. :)

Sounds loud

No problem hearing myself playing keyboard with this sat on my e-piano. The other band members thought it was very versatile and neat and so this should get a lot of use.

A stage filler

Need to hear your vocals, tracks, fellow band members, guitars etc?

Then this is the Monitor to do it. A full foldback sound on stage with no feedback and at a very competative price.

No more carrying heavy wedge monitors etc. This little box is more than adequate

Speaker

These speakers are Brilliant I use them as a small PA for spoken word events in a Cafe Bar and they are perfect. Cant recommend them highly enough

Good alternative to wedge monitors

I never really got on with floor (wedge) monitors; in my band we don't often have the luxury of a front of house sound engineer and so have to do monitoring ourselves. These are good because they can be mounted on the mic stand (although we use them on separate short stands because they can be positioned better), and the user has access to volume and basic EQ functions.

Being closer to your ears also means that the onstage sound is tighter because there is less overall sound washing about into the microphones. The sound is ok without being spectacular, but they cannot be faulted for value for money.

There are a total of three inputs so the B205D could even act as a micro-PA system for a solo performer in a small performance area, with microphone, guitar and backing track all having their own inputs. It's a versatile piece of equipment.

Behringer B205D

This little monitor is quite exceptional, given its size and price. It is wonderfully featured and has enough punch to make it a good option for close monitoring, even in a live band situation. It has proven to be surprisingly tough, given that it's used in every weekend and is being transported from place to place in the back of a car, in all weather/conditions.

I'm beginning to sound like a Behringer employee (which I am not!), but almost every item of equipment I buy from them leaves me impressed at the value/quality of their products.

If you need a compact, versatile monitor which you can use in all manner of different ways, you really won't find anything better at less than twice the price of this one.

Superb

I only bought this as a vocal monitor , but its so loud and well balanced that I'm using it as my PA for small gigs. I use it to plug the projector in when watching a film for great sound. Serously thinking about getting another one to make a small stereo PA. Great for practice keyboard amp
