Behringer TD-3-SR Reviews

With this product Behringer confirms that is now one the leaders in the synths game (and not only). This clone it's really close (in sound and features) to the original, you can easily watch a tutorial of a TB303 and use your own TD-3. It sounds great, material is plastic (like TB303) and the distortion switch in the front it's great to experiment new sound IMMEDIATLY OUT OF THE BOX without any other gear like pedals or digital effects. Perhaps the only flaw with this synthesizer is the lack of a MIDI OUT port to memorize MIDI envelopes in DAWs.

By the way for 155€ and above there's nothing better.

Finally.. Looking forward for more..

Pros:

- Clone - sound, interesting sequencer, original look

- Upgrades - distortion, some (limited) CV i/o

- Analogue + community around 303 clones = hackable for more features.

- Price

Cons:

- Clone - funny "oversized" box, original silver look looks dull, no battery powered, little speaker would be also nice ("standard" volca series advantages)

- Without more i/o, quite a one trick pony, but everybody knows that. I hope Behringer will convert it to eurorack with extensive i/o.

For its advantages, it's a must for every hardware music maker lover, at least for it's historical and workflow value.

Close But No Cigar

What can you say for that fantastic price and the added features!

Still.. a rave rview is not always 5 stars.

Starting with the sound... I plugged it into a pair of large amplified computer speakers, routing it - and a TB-303 - through separate but equal tracks on a DAW. My wife called the sound faat when I asked her how do you like it? Then I switched on the TB-303, not the same settings and pattern because this wasn't a pre-planned test and she called the saound "3-D and organic". This is from someone who is not into Acid and is not a synth head in any way. The TD3 sounds great but a little less so when a TB-303 is right next to it. Also the distortion is a bit disappointing, especially in the highs where it loses volume fast.

But hey, can I really complain when this also has USB MIDI, and pattern ediiting?! I do wish it aIso had CV and GATE IN and maybe a few more patch points. In which case I'd happily pay a bit more. Imagine patching a few of these together with a few Craves.. or a Neutron.. SICK!

Amazing, with a couple of minor teething problems.

My unit was shipped from the first batch of TD-3's to hit the shelves, so I was expecting some minor niggles. However, so far, so amazing! :)

From an authenticity perspective the TD-3 does a great job at emulating the warm depth and high screams of the original.

If you've owned a TB303 then you'll feel right at home with this.

Yes, it's chassis is made of quite cheap plastic, but it's functional whilst the knobs and pot's (Which are the main touch points for end users) seem of high quality.

The minor gripes I have are are that it didn't ship with a UK PSU so you have to buy an adaptor, and my personal unit suffers with quite a lot of mains interference.? A ground loop isolator took care of most, but it's still quite noisy. I'd be interested to hear from others on this.

Finally the headphone jack wobbles and seems like it may not last that long from first impressions. Time will tell on that one.

With that said, the device does come with a whopping 3 year warranty as standard so any build quality concerns I have with mine can get sorted over time if required.

Having owned and sold a few originals over the years I'm more than happy with this purchase.

Possible shielding issues on PSU creating noise? (can others please comment)

Possible weak connectors on the faceplate. (time will tell)

For the money the TD-3 is a no brainer and on the whole I'm having a blast replicating my Rebirth set up of the 90's with actual analogue hardware. A dream come true. Thanks Behringer! Top marks for keeping the vintage analogue revival going.

PS: I ordered a 2nd yellow one. Not Sorry. :)

Great Clone!

Super Lightweight, sturdy Build, great sound, excellent distortion, easily edited/programmed either in the original step style, or online with behringer software, or simply drawing in the midi into your DAW. best money I have spent in a long time, such a great price this is! I've bought another 2!

superb value for money!

Sounds ace, build ok and the sequencer COULD be more user friendly. However, highly recommended as it sounds amazing.

Nice bit of kit for the money

Get the obvious out of the way. It’s a clone of the legendary TB-303 and for the price probably best on the market. Build-wise it’s pretty cheap feeling and being a new gadget it’ll take a bit breaking in the reso/cutoff knobs but that’s the joy of having one. It’s probably the cheapest way to get into creating squelchy acid bassfarts. As an acid box and for the price it’s a bit of a no-brainer. The only real negatives is the feel of it as it feels like a toy. Also why didn’t Behringer bring out the black one first instead of blue and red?. I probably would’ve probably picked up a black 1 to go with the silver

It’s not going to replace any of my other gear, but I am happy to have one alongside my other clones. If you’re in the market for something that sounds good and looks the part and analog is a must at an affordable price I would recommend this. If you don’t care about that analog vs digital thing and you’re just getting into hardware I would probably pick up a TB-3. It might not be a pure acid box like the TD-3, but imo it gives more options than the regular saw/square

Cons

Feels very plastic, no use of batteries, no built in speaker.

All in all if you have any other clones this makes a perfect partner and at this price Behringer are on to a winner :)

i have an original and a bass bot and love them all the TD 3 is awsome ...i have bought all thje new behringer roland copies and they are all amazing....10/10

AS CLOSE AS IT GETS

I have TT mk1 and 2, mam retro, RE and now TD3, my studio partner has 2 x TB - the TD is as close as it gets - no question.

pros - sound: build, CV, old school pattern engine :-) , free DS-1 distortion clone engine

Behringer did it again

Great product by Behringer. Been wanting a 303 clone for a long while and very happy with this one.

Overall sound is pretty much the same but not an exact match. The product feels sturdy as well. 10/10 to Behringer for getting this synth to consumers for a great price.

Behringer TD-3

I am very happy with my purchase of TD-3. The sound is very good, the potentiometers work smoothly, the light housing + the USB input and a dedicated editor in which you can easily create your melodies. Low price is an additional plus. I recommend this product 100%

A worthy competitor in the 303 clone wars, for a bargain price!

Enough distorted grunt and squeals to get the neighbours mad,

programming the sequencer is very handy using the synthTool.

Best 303 for the price

The essence is there. Could be a little more bouncy and precise, but it's really close to the original. It's fun to just rock patterns with it. Totally great for the price.
