i've had a few interfaces, and this is one of my favourites so far.

well made, plenty of options (although some XLR outs would be nice) and easy to set up (i'm on Mac; sorry Windows users, i can't say how it'll be for you).

decent kit for not that much money!

Best multi in-out on a budget

Starter pack. Recommended to anyone who needs more than 2 ins and outs on a budget. Preamps are decent. You won't get much "meat" for this price but it does the job! Two headphone outs are a welcome feature. Build quality is nice. And whole package is very compact.

Got more than i was hoping for

I bought this interface just because I was in need of more inputs. As soon as I started using it, I found great benefit in having a number of outputs as well. With them, I could make various sends and returns. It's super handy and serves a wide variety of recording/mixing situations. Another handy thing is that all 8 ins have combination connectors, so there can all take line level XLR cables, as well as instrument level jack cables.

By now, we all figured out that Behringer's low prices don't necessarily reflect poor build quality. UMC1820 feels quite solid.

On top of everything, you can add 10 more channels through ADAT and SPDIF if you get external preamps.

Never had the problem with drivers. I've been using it mainly with Pro Tools, Ableton Live, and Garage Band.

The only downside is that the highest sample rate is 96 kHz. Honestly, I rarely have to record or mix in higher sample rate, but it would have been amazing if it would go to 192 kHz

I would strongly recommend this interface to anyone who needs a good amount of inputs and can't afford to break a bank.

Good but...

Bought to record multi-track drums and some guitars.I started using it to mix.

It's very good and does the job.Nice features with the direct monitoring.Very low latency.

But I've had it for 3 months and the master volume knob started making scratchy noises when turning up or down.Weirdly only on the left channel.Contact cleaner didn't help and has been sent back for servicing while I was in the middle of mixing/editing an album.

Update: after getting the unit back, it was ok for a while and then it started again. Sold it later on and went for a 'better' quality rack usb interface.

Excelent for the price

It works well and has good sound, could be well built but for the price you can't really complain. I'm using it for a year has a mixer with support of a computer for the live rig of my band and Haven't had any problems.

Great value for your money

I think this is a great device for any drummer to record himself.

The 8 inputs will do to record my drums in most home recording situations. However I have extended my device with the Behringer ADA-8000, giving me now 16 inputs.

When I first bought this audio interface I wasn't expecting a fantastic sound, but when I started using it I was blown away by the sound you get for so little money.

It took some time to figure things out like how to route the computer audio to a certain output etc, but in the end everything just works fine!

Does it's job

The only negative thing is the quality of knobs feels a little bit cheap. But the sound is great, features are great, price is great too. So overall feel is good, especially if you only use it for demos, etc.

Great value for the money

The Behringer UMC1820 replaced my Zoom R16 in my home studio as with every Mac update the Zoom was just starting to have more and more compatibility issues. The Behringer does not need drivers for Mac, so it works instantly and seamlessly. I use it mainly to record vocals and acoustic guitar in my home studio, and also other instruments.

The Midas branded preamps sound very nice, definitely well above the price. The features in the front of the unit are plentiful, and I really like the fact that there are two separate headphone channels. Also, the speaker mute button is something I don't know how I managed without so far.

It would be nice to have all of the XLR inputs on the front of the unit, but this is just my preference and it would definitely have limited the features in the unit. I have been using the unit for a bit over two months now and I am very happy about the purchase.

The BEST interface (for the money)

This thing is absurdly cheap. It's basically 1/2th to 1/3rd of the price of its competitors such as the Focusrite Scarlett. The pre-amps on it are OK (I have been told they are the same as the ones on the X32 but they seem a little noisier to me) but the fact has ADAT and SPDIF is very useful for connecting it to legacy sound gear.

There are however some drawbacks. The build quality is quite poor and the casing bends easily with moderate force. It would be nice if it had 2 ADAT in/out ports so any external ADAT gear could be ran at 96khz rather than 48khz and the lack of a word clock sync is a major disadvantage when utilising ADAT/SPDIF connections with some equipment. The external power supply is also unnecessarily bulky for what it does and I don't know why they didn't go for an internal one - but, you don't always get what you want and this thing really is fantastically good value.

Exactly as expected.

As I read most previous reviews before buying this interface, I can now confirm most, if not all of them. The UMC1820 is no more, no less, exactly as I expected: Solid interface, easy to use, no problems clicks/pops or anything, and I should mention that the latest driver seems to work without problems (Windows 10). The control panel is indeed poor, but since most configurations are arranged through the DAWs, that's not a problem. Overall, it's just a great audio interface for budget studios, but don't expect miracles for its price, it already does more than needed.

Does everything it promises, but you may have driver problems AND heat

I'm actually quite satisfied with this product, the sound is pretty good (the pres are awesome), the in/out are what I needed, but there's two little flaws.

The first one is about the drivers not working properly on some devices/OSs, and even bringing to stupid problems like Youtube AND Reaper not playing simultaneously due to frequency mismatch (problems I didn't have with a small UR22). Plus, it actually heats up a bit.

Exactly what you should expect for that price and maybe more

I use this interface in the studio sometimes but the main usage is for live sets and gigs. If you are looking for an high end studio designed ADC/DAC that's not what you need (obviously), subtile crackle and noises are ordinary with the UMC1820. But if you are looking for an affordable and easy to move and versatile interface...here it is, this Behringer black brick will follow you everywhere and everywhen you need it, fits in a backpack, in a keyboard bag or in a flight standard hand luggage. Essential In/Out (8 mic-line-inst in/Main L-R + 8 line out), gain knob, pad and line/inst switch for each tracks, two separated phones out with dedicated knobs , MIDI In/Out, SPDIF/ADAT...in conclusion everything you need to play around. I traveled all around Europe with this interface and it never let me down and never made problems. The value of the UMC1820 depends on your particular needs, as everything.

Great interface for the price!

I use this interface for my home studio. I originally bought it due to the amount of inputs for the price, making recording a drum kit a breeze. The extra mic pres allow for a lot more creativity in the recording process, as I can mic up the room and such. In terms of its sound, it's certainly not the clearest but with audio processing it's possible to get a great mix from the tracks recorded on it. I've also used this for recording theatre performances, and found it great for this task.

all round a great piece of kit for the price, making recording accessible to those on a budget.

Good

Don't use it with the latest drivers from Behringer. Driver ver 3.29 are better.

It's windows driver looks like from 1995 and routing is impossible without DAW.

In/Outs can routed only in Linux using Jack2.

Good sound and very useful features

Got it for home studio use. While I don't necessarily need a lot of ins and outs, it is very convenient to set up all your instruments plugged in constantly, and have available outputs for reamp (for example). The setup with most inputs/outputs at the rear allows for a very neat setup with all the cables being behind and out of sight. Two separate headphone outs are very useful, as well as the two inputs on the front for "guests".

In summery, packed with useful features, easy to set up and use. Works well with ASIO4ALL, Sound quality is very good. I would highly recommend it for home recording studio over any 1,2 and 4 input interfaces of any price just for the shear convenience of use.

Great audio interface

I use this audio interface in my home studio setup. It offers you 8 mic preamps which is amazing., preamps by Midas sounds great. Latency is acceptable but you need powerful PC. The only disadvantage in my opinion is that UMC1820 can't be routed in UMC Audio Control Panel, just in your DAW. In conclusion it's great interface for home studio when you have limited budget and you want lot of inputs. Best choice in this price.

UMC 1820 and the reason of the return

The product is Behringer UMC1820 and the reason of the return is in the fact that the unit has shown itself to be unstable using the USB connection and would drop out after 1 to 20 min. and sometimes would not be recognised by the operating system. I have run the tests on 3 different computers ( win10, 8 and 7) using the drivers provided by the Behringer Music Group company and... no luck. For the 15 min. operation I've recorded a drum set with 8 mics and the sound was very good for the price. So, I guess that the problem might be in the particular unit that was sent to me and not with the UMC 1820 series 'cause I haven't seen that anyone else reported such an issue.

UMC 1820

This interface is usb class compliant and does not require any drivers on Mac. I have used it with a MacBook Air running protools and an iPad running Auria. It runs faultlessly on both systems. The mic amps are a mid range spec but perfectly usable and quiet. All other controls are logically laid out and obvious. The unit arrived with a two pin mains lead useless to me in the uk and the manual is very thin on detail.
