Behring X Air X12

I bought this mixer to use it with a simple DJ or band set up but be able to have a large amount of control still.

I have been absolutely shocked and amazed by this product. If you are willing to control sound via an iPad or Mac this is perfect is you like the feel of using a desk this is not for you!

The app to control it X Air allows you to use almost all of the features of the Behringer X32 except this can be carried around without any hassle. The price in comparison to an X32 as well is incredible.

However a downside to the XR12 is only 4 XLR inputs however if you buy some adapter this can be easily solved.

Would highly recommend!!!

Essential piece of kit for any band

If you have never tried it, then being able to control all the mixer functions from a tablet onstage is something you will wonder how you ever lived without.

Not only do you not wear out sliders, but a tablet clipped under your mike stand makes it very easy to attend anything on the mixer.

We use the X AIR both live and in the studio. It works most nights for one man gigs with my brother, then weekly with the band, plus practice sessions.

We like the comprehensive functions, the wireless control, the quality sound and new updates. (Which means it is still actively supported)

Our only dislike is that the built in wireless acess point is dedicated to the mixer function and won't allow other functions, such as prompters, to our other tablets.

In summary - it's a must have.

Excellent little mixer, with capabilities far beyond its price range :)

An excellent sounding mixer. I mix our band (7 person band, with electronic drums), and it works flawlessly.

Pros:

The channel strip (EQ, Comp, Gate) is very intuitive and the Combinator is just a fantastic tool for shaping the overall mix.

The built-in channel presets (as well as those you can find on the internet) are very helpfull.

The recording to usb function is very convenient for recording the rehearsals.

The abillity to save scenes and load them instantly is fantastic for rehearsal and live purposes.

The Mic preamps are ok (not the best i have heard but very workable and quiet).

Cons:

At this price range, i can not find any serious cons for what XR 12 is offering.

VERY goos value for money!

Best buy of the year!

This is an amazing mixer. The sound quality is fantastic! I have used a number of controllers to operate it and they all work well. Using the computer gives the best access to all the features. I use an iPad for gigs. When the battery died on one occasion I used my Android phone as the mixer, no problem. The only and obvious drawback is the smaller the controller device the more difficult to move the faders accurately. There is a feature when you hold your finger on a controller it enlarges to a slider the width of the screen. Brilliant! I now also use the mixer at home for recordings. My Rode MT2A has found new life! It really sparkles. I've read about people having a few problems using the internal WiFi. Works perfectly for me! I can highly recommend this mixer.

Great for small performances

I bought this mixer for two reasons: firstly to work with one or a pair of JBL Eon One all in one speaker systems as a hire business and also to demonstrate the "art of the possible" for some new audio facilities in our local church. The aspiration is to purchase an X32 rack mounted mixer but the X Air XR12 provides enough channels for 4 XLR/combi inputs and 8 x 6 1/4" jacks.

My first comment would be don't just get it out of the box and try and use it straight away! It took a little while to get to grips with the controls and I was glad I joined the musicians at a rehearsal and made them do as I asked (for a change). When I did get the hang of it, it was fairly straightforward to operate although I would say I have yet to master it yet.

I have used both iPad and Macbook to operate and that aspect is very simple. Access to effects and various controls is straightforward although not necessarily intuitive yet.

When in operation it was great to be able to move around the venue to control all aspects of the sound as well as be able to stand with the musicians to set their foldback levels.

Physically the equipment feels robust enough for small stage handling - I bought a gatorcase for it too which looks after it in transit.

Connections are positive and there were no issues.

I have only used the built in wifi thus far and all went well with no interruptions or loss of control.

All told, I have much more to learn but with two outings I am very impressed and would recommend this particularly at the price.

Small but miraculous!

The Behringer X AIR XR12 is a reliable solution for small groups. Have the operating of all functions of a big digital console.

Important! In order for someone to build sound it will be necessary to know the basics of sound engineering. Otherwise it is impossible to manage!

Some mistakes in operating I believe to be corrected in a newer firmware.

Behringer X AIR XR12 is value for money !!

Amazing features

This is a very smart implementation of commonplace technology. I love the way this is so simple to set up, and it can be controlled from my laptop, phone or a tablet.

The only problems come when there are lots of people all with their phones searching for wifi, then the controls can become a bit slow, but this is a great concept.

I have unfortunately had to return mine under warranty for a replacement power unit, however the turnaround was very fast and the unit is now working perfectly again.

The most useful features are doubtlessly the fact that you can mix wirelessly from front of house without running wires everywhere. The FX and Real Time Analysis are also very handy, and offer way above what small analogue mixers with 4 mic inputs have been able to.

What a great piece of kit!

I recently acquired this desk and I'm extremely happy with it! It's got great features (once you figure how to use them, I'm not too technically gifted!) and it's got way more on it than what I'll ever use. The only downside I would say is that there's no instruction manual anywhere to be found. There's plenty of instructional videos up on their youtube channel, but a lot of these clips are for the MAC app rather than the iPad app. Behringer did eventually get in touch with me to direct me to their wiki page for the manual, but I just found that messing around with it yourself was better. Didn't find the manual's overly helpful. It's light and robust and like I said has such great features on it, that you can get over the manual thing! Highly recommend

Amazing for the price

I bought this after buying a bigger X32 mixer and being blown away how good it was. The X air didn't disappoint either, compact and works as you imagine. The only thing the smaller X12 & X16 miss is an on board sound card. The USB is only for recording directly onto a USB stick. You can get this on the bigger X18 model though. Also very easy to use and set up. Highly recommend.

(Updated after a few weeks use)

OK, although i stand by how good this mixer is for the price there are a few things to watch out for regarding connectivity. Firstly the built in wireless access point, if you are planning on using this in busy built up areas with a lot of people (and their smartphones) this is useless and drops out making it un-usable on your ipad/tablets. Bare this in mind as when it happens you can not control your mixer, which as you can image causes a few issues!

After coming across this issue i purchased another ethernet connector to use on my macbook to hard wire it. This solves the busy airwaves if you want to control it on your PC/Mac but if you are also using the internet at the same time on the same machine it gets confused. Easy way around this is connect the X-air before you connect to the internet and then you should be fine. I'm using a Macbook so this wired issue might be different with PC.

overall, if you are solely buying this for the wireless tablet connectively using the inbuilt access point, don't because it doesn't work in built up wifi areas.

Big Value for Small Bucks

A really compact, highly versatile mixer. Eliminates miles of cables and out performs my current desk. So much packed into one small unit. It may take me a few weeks to get the very best out of it.

Incredible features for price

i have nothing but positives to say about this incredible mixer, very high quality audio and low noise, great fx great eq gating and dynamics and routing possibilities for what is an incredible price. Not to forget it's not tied to any particular controller, so it's good with Mac pc iPad and android devices of which we all have many so no special purchases are required, it's easy to set up and get to grips with and if I have to say anything negative at all, it's the amount of time I initially wasted trying to use the x air with an apple airport express, due to its lack of wan ports ( express, it has only one) it makes connection in comparison to a normal router with built in switch a complete pain in the backside. Not behringers fault, so don't hesitate if you are thinking about a digital mixer think very carefully about the x air range, amazing. Cheers kev

The New XR12

I'll jump straight into this by saying that this XR12 is solid. Behringer are always considered the next best thing with their gear but this is as good as it gets. There's not much on the hardware side to shout about apart from the sockets - excellent quality and gives a confident connection. There are 2U rack ears included if you want to use them.

It's early days for this technology and the available apps will be where it scores the most against the competition. Having said that, you may already know about the x32 engine running the show and I am impressed with effects available. Once you work out how this mixer works without having an in depth manual, then you can appreciate it's uses. The app differs slightly across platforms with PC/Mac giving better control and other features than iOS or Android...

So to summarise a few questions I never found the answers to before I bought this, here's an explanation... The are four effects slots from the dozens of FX's available, only one can be assigned as system to the main output but set as an insert, any channel can access any four. There are 12 physical inputs but 16 channels to mix with so you can specify a route for example: Mic on input One going to channels 1, 12 and 13 for mixing. (it's complicated but possible) also, There's EQ available on every channel, Main and FX and so much more. I'm having a lot of fun with this unit and as Behringer have promised more with updates in the future I am looking forward to that to.

Thanks for reading.
