Some headphones may be great for a fling, but this is the pair that you marry

I'm a longtime DT-770 user, but I was looking for something a bit more trustworthy for mixing purposes. The DT-880 Pro's are more evenly balanced and have a slightly more polished overall sound than the DT-770's. With the use of Sound ID Reference software that is calibrated for the DT-880 Pro, the frequency response is about as close to flat as it gets, and I feel like I finally have an honest, trustworthy pair of mixing headphones.

There are newer iterations of Beyerdynamic headphones that supposedly have new and improved drivers. My experience with two of these (the DT-1770's and the 700 Pro X's) is that they do sound wonderful and more Hi-Fi than the DT-880 Pro's, but the balance of the frequency response, as well as the comfort, were not up to par with the DT-880 Pro. I found the bass emphasis on the DT-1770's much too strong for practical use in mixing, while the midrange of the 700 Pro X's was much too present and caused the soundstage to feel very congested. You may feel differently. Try them for yourself. But that was my experience, and I did not find either of these "updated" headphones at all useful for mixing.

There are a plethora of wonderfully thorough headphone reviews on the Sonarworks website (that's the company that makes Sound ID Reference) and you'll find that the DT-880 Pro is among the top-ranked of all headphones at all price points. And considering the price, it's an absolute no-brainer. Pick up a pair of DT-880 Pro's and be done with your search.

Good stuff to use in home studio in context of high gain guitar tracking, mixing. I use this one with RME FireFace UC interface. Clean, real sounding headphones. If you are angry metalhead and you want to safe your family it is equipment to save your relatives. Good balance between all frequencies, very comfortable on head. For me it was a alternative for AKG 712 Pro (I couldn't afford on opened system).strongly recommended

Incredible for mixing

I have been using them for a year now. I also have a pair of Ath M40x. This pair is WAY more balanced. The m40x is closed and i use it for recording mostly, or listening to more popular music (while on train or bus) because it has more bass and hf. The DT-880 pro has incredibly neutral sound and boring (in a good way), perfect for mixing. Due to the fairly larger soundstage the sound doesnt become annoying at any point and it's fairly easier to close your eyes and imagine where the instruments are located in the mix (do that)

It also feels really sturdy and it is supposed to have all replaceable parts but nothing has broken so far. I have only taken them out of my room a couple times to listen to music at work though and i am pretty careful.

The only reason i put 4 stars in comfort is because even though the sound doesn't tire me at all, one of my ears touches the inside of the earcup and after an hour or two it kinda hurts and i have to take a break. BUT I HAVE GIGANTIC EARS. So unless you share my curse, you won't have any problems.

Also if you don't want a set Just for mixing, check out the dt990 which is supposed to be a kinda more "fun", v-shaped version of this one and it is way cheaper (and also prettier if you ask me)

I wouldn't change a thing about these.

I use these mainly for production, switching with DT-770, depending on whether I want make noise around me.

They're super comfy.

I'm wearing them for hours without barely noticing.

Sound is well balanced.

Loving the "telephone" cable.

Every time someone asks for a headphone recommendation I point them to the DT series by Beyerdynamics.

I can't think of any cons.

I guess I've become a kind of beyerdynamic fanboy.

Very Comfortable, Great-Sounding Cans

As the title says, they are very comfortable and easy to wear for long periods.

They sound great -very detailed and not hyped in any way.

I mainly use them in the studio for mixing.

Great set of studio headphones

Comfortable for long sessions. A good bass response but not over flattering. I am happy using these in a flat as my main monitoring method.

Subtle differences to DT-770 Pro

As a previous owner of DT-770 I find these headphones quite similar. Both are high quality with a great sound (albeit a bit too much bass).

My DT-770 broke after 7 years (!!!) so it wasn't hard to decide I wanted to buy from Beyerdynamic again.

I can't be really objective in my review as I am emotionally attached to this brand already.

They are great headphones. Leave your "What if the AKG headphones sound better" at the door and be assured you are buying a premium headset.

I'm confident most of you will like them too.

Fantastic sound and feel

The sound of these headphones is well-known - they sound great, with a fairly even response. I bought them primarily because the SonarWorks Reference 3 plug-in as a profile for them which helps even out the response even better for monitoring and mixing. Paired together it's great.

The construction of the headphones are top-notch - good quality plugs and cables. Nothing feels cheap or appears built to break. I wish I could say the same about some of the other headphones I've purchased over the years. The best part of these are the soft-cloth ear pads which, in my opinion, are the most comfortable ear pads I've ever used. I can wear the headphones for hours without issues or discomfort.

Excellent for home recording and audio listening

I'd expect nothing more for the asking price, yet the sound quality is surprisingly good. In the past I've had some Sennheiser headphones (including expensive hifi models) and DT-880 Pro are first headphones from different producer. I am using them as my main monitoring equipment (for listening music rather prefer loudspeakers) especially when working with synthesizers and bass guitar. They might be a bit too rich in high tones with high gain distortion and some of users might find them a bit too quiet. Those headphones might be also not suitable for longer sessions as after a couple of hours they make my ears sore (in this category Sennheiser HD 600 wins!). However overall impression is very much positive.

Amazing High End 250ohm Headphones

I have used many semiopen headphones before. These are by far the best headphones I have ever owned. Very accurate and almost flat frequency response. You can hear all the details without any colorization. Reliable for mixing, mastering.

Comfortable for long period usage.

I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who's looking for high-end semiopen studio headphones.

perfect for mixing

this part of gear is providing wide range of mids on your ears.

If you like it you dont want to leave it.

for studio engineers it is a strong solution

Wonderful

Highly linear frequency response. With some smart equalisation you can make them truly flat.

Very position independent and has great dampening (things sound clear and precise).

The impedance is very suitable for usb powered interfaces.

Extremely comfortable and suitable for moderately warm environments.

These are semi-open headphones, so there is close to 0 no noise isolation.

Great sounding headphones

I love the sound of these headphones. Makes it so much easier to do the basic editing work without monitors and on the go. Very well build. I have given 4 stars for comfort, because I get tired after a couple of hours of wearing these headphones, as I feel that they push a little too tight, but it is not really a big deal.

great product, very nice audio quality and great material.

shipped and delivered very fast, the headphones are made from good material, very good audio quality, open back gives the feeling of the room. very recommended.

perfect for mix

very comfortable and perfect sound for mix or listening. But be aware that with semi-open design they are not for recording - or you will record tempo slicks

Excellent sound quality

At first they seemed to be too small for my head but when I got used to them I finally started to hear the sound quality and it is simply amazing. Very linear and clear like monitoring should be. I started to hear finer details I never noticed before. These are not street headphones, these are specifically for mixing and mastering and the quality is really high-end.

Really nice cans for critical mixing and generally listening to music.Comfortable to wear over periods of time and no real downside to owning a pair.

Replacement parts easily available which is one of the things that atracted me to these over other headphones.

Curly lead and adaptor come as standard and well packaged.

Love 'em!

Wizard

Tells you where you've done mixing mistakes like an old & impatient katana master.

No screwing around, it delivers amazing insights for the mix.

Would buy again & again & again.

Using it in combo with the HD25, perfect way to get a nice and balanced mix :)

A bit heavy on the skull but it forces you to get breaks, which is a very good thing.

On me head!

Very pleasing to use, rich sound, which I gather is pretty neutral. A little tight on my XXL bonce, but not too fatiguing for mixing sessions. A jolly good purchase.
