Great sound on the right sources, offers a way to fine tune by placement
This mic is a bit different to other common dynamics but can be very helpful on some things. It does best on brass, some percussion, and is a useful kick drum mic when placed inside the shell if you experiment to find the right position, and use the WS69 wind shield to protect the diaphragm. You will find it has its own flavour, perfect on some instruments, as a helpful alternative to the standard choices. Has long been used successfully behind the sounding board of upright pianos. Even some vocalists. Strong proximity effect which you can exploit by close-miking or limit by increasing distance. Useful on floor tom or large drums, large brass like tuba, sousaphone, also sax and trumpet. Excellent option to have available and great to add to your personal mic kit as an alternative or enhancement to the standard types. Best used by exploiting its ability to control its response by placement, with the engineer's judgement can fine-tune the sound of the source. An essential standard for decades for good reasons
Versatile & Musical
Such a drastic upgrade from other dynamics. I can always find a good use for this microphone, for live sound, or studio purposes, if I have one (or more) with me.
Good rejection / bleed control, and "clean" in that you really don't get any unpleasant or unmusical distortion... It is hard to overwork this microphone / capsule, it just works.
Classic for a reason!
Wonderful allround mike. Great for vocals, but also for bass and kick drum. When using as a kick-drum mike, do use a windshield or something to protect it from the impact of the kick-drum. Otherwise it will break!
I have 2 and use these for recording upright piano, and for live and recorded vocal. These are very good clear mics. For recording the results are similar to a condenser mics, although for live the signal can be a little hot. For vocal recording, not quite as good as AKG414, but to be expected. For piano they're great for recording as they sound like a condenser but don't pick up as much background sound as a condenser.
Great sound.. one issue
Love the sound of this mic. Only issue is touring with it we have a consistent issue where the lens screws that hold the Grill in place keep falling out! They are cheap to replace but can be a nuisance. I will add that we are using it on the kick drum so they may not /support' this use. It sounds great though!!
Great classic dynamic mic
This is a great mic for vocals.
Quality Mic
Beyerdynmaic make great stuff ans this mic is no exception,
Have only used on vocals but so far so great, Hyper-card pattern means virtually no ambiance which is great for bedroom studio,
Dynamic but sounds condenser like with its extended top end,
