You can feel it in the air tonight

This is now my favorite live / rehearsal mic. Very clear highs, good low end, excellent feed-back characteristics and takes volume (screaming) nicely. Handling-noise / stage-rumbling almost not existing. General feeling is very high quality. Recommendable for male-voices like mine :)

My new fav kick mic

Sounds incredible in my kick with the ws59 windscreen! Also sounded great on a guitar amp. Loving this mic

Best handheld dynamic microphone ever made.

I have many top name dynamic microphones in my collection, the M88 is one of the most balanced and best sounding mics I have.

Fantastic range and records beautifully anything I put it on, Beyerdynamic created a sonic work of art, amazing for a dynamic mic that was introduced in 1962.

Great dynamic mic

Bought it to record vocals at home. Gets a condenser-like sound in a non-treated room. Great mic.

Excellent for the price

I bought this mic for bass ahead of more expensive options as the re20 or md421. Be it vox or drums or guitar, whatever I throw this mic in front of it will excel

I use this mic a LOT

I really like this microphone. It sounds great for recording the guitar amp. I also use it on rack toms. I got a lot of use out of this little mic. It really is the first one I go to when Im recording the guitar amp. Tried it on vocals. There are better mics for that. This one stays in my mic collection and is used for instruments mostly. Sounds great. Would buy it again if it was lost. Thumbs up.

Swiss army mic

This is one of my all time favorite microphones and I use it all the time on everything. upright bass, bass drum, guitar amp, floor tom, vocals. The newer ones doesn't have the same smooth sound as the old ones, but at least the new ones doesn't break that easily. I have vintage one that sounded great but died, so that's why I got a new one. But very happy with it.

Amazing.

Beyerdynamic mics are maybe the best dynamic mics that there are in the sonic world. This mic is superb on toms, on deep voices, on harmonica, on guitar amp, on bass amp, well, you name it. Its cousin, the m201, is better on guitar amp and also better on brighter instruments, like steel acoustic guitar and snare. I have some mics that i think of selling, like the beyerdynamic mc930, even the Neumann TLM107, to get better ones. This m88 (i have two) and my m201 will be forever in my locker. Just get two or 3 of these and you will be happy!

Great piece of gear

This is one of the best dynamic all-around mics. Very good for guitar amps, sax, acoustic guitar - it turned to be good for everything I tried to record, but mainly I use it for recording electric guitar.

Make sure you've plugged it in a decent mic preamp for the best results.

This microphone needs proper handling, it is not a 'plug & play' device, therefore, you are to spend a certain time experimenting in positioning this mic. For some of you, it might be an advantage or disadvantage so it is worth mentioning.

Finally, it is a dynamic microphone and it suits fine in a live environment.

However, it is not a chip microphone in its every aspect, so M88TG can distinguish itself in a wide palette of different microphones available on the market nowadays.

Awesome mic

I wish I had bought this sooner. Just a great allround microphone. I have tried it on bass amp, vocals and a nylon string guitar. Sounded great on everything, much better than many other better known mics. Just get it!

Sounds great and durable as anything

Have used this for gigging and recording for the last 3 years (playing sousaphone, so bassy brass).

It's noticeably better than the standard 57s or 58s that most venues usually mic horns with.

Definitely a great mic...

There 's no such thing as a bad mic. Even a "bad" mic. It all depends on how you use it and what sound you want to achieve. Even a "bad" sound. But this could also lead us to another discussion. I love Beyerdynamic microphones for their clean an true capturing of the sound source. Have a few: M201TG, MC-930 and the M88. The M88TG has perhaps fewer situations for which I use it for than some other mic's. On bass cabinets I prefer the EV RE20 in combination with a Royer R122. On vocals (narrative I don't know) I also prefer other options, like the SM7B if you want a dynamic mic. But if you only have dynamic microphones and want to be able to have some different sounding backing vocals, this mic would surely do the job. On percussion, on toms, especially if you seek some low end, I like to use the M88TG. And when it works on an instrument, it's great. If the low end is too much, just back off the mic a bit as the proximity effect can be big. Built quality is perfect, as always with BeyerDynamic. Like this brand.

Super mic for many tasks

I use it for female vocals, kick drum inside, sax and trumpet in studio and live sound.

Really nice mic, witch have his own character. You need to hear tg88, after you will fall in love with it.

A legend, for many reasons!

There are no frills, filters, tricks or options on this great microphone: only & just a big, accurate sound, phenomenal low frequency response, violently high SPL level handling, and very clean interference free electronics.

Bass drums, bass amps, tubas, saxophones, male voices, room recordings, all welcome and all brilliantly served - a truly legendary studio must-have, also fit for the stage!

Best microphone for natural sounding kick drum.

For John Mayer style kick drum sound. Suitable also for tom-toms. Once I used it on a guitar amp and guitar player was really amused about the sound. Would be great vocal mic for jazz singers as it has natural warm sound that you do not have to EQ a lot to get it working. Does not have nasty sibilance sounds when high gained. It is my all time favourite dynamic mic!

If you buy this mic, then this is a must: Beyerdynamic WS59 windscreen. If you use this mic inside of kick drum, then this windscreen helps to save the mic from fast powerful transients that could hurt the mic.
