Boss FV-500-H Reviews
Not much to add
It does what it is supposed to do. Only thing is that it is a massive and heavy pedal, so I am not bringing it anywhere. But I love to use it as an expression pedal.
Nice
Very simple , and it does the job , BE CAREFUL: not both models are suitable for guitar ,.. check the "compliance"
Great pedal
First of all it is very robust and it works really smooth. You will have that good mechanical feedback when you're using it.
Great Volume/Expression pedal
I used it for long time, it's not affecting the Tone!
Good expression/volume pedal
Been using it for a few months now and it's a fine pedal is all I can say, only time will tell how the potetiometer lasts. There was a minor mechanical squeak when rocking the pedal at first, but a drop of silicone oil removed that instantly. I love the double functionality - you can use it also as an expression pedal. It's quite bulky, very sturdy, built like a tank, thus it's quite heavy (weighs almost 1,5 kgs) and I wouldn't recommend it for compact pedalboard solutions that you have to carry around yourself...
Built like a tank
I've used this pedal for 6 years now. No problems what so ever. The elegant looks are a bonus as well.
Glorified on-off pedal
I have no idea what the guys at boss were thinking when they designed this pedal... from zero to about 20% sweep the pedal does nothing. NOTHING. Then from 20% to 60% sweep it moves from zero volume to 100%... then from 60% to 100% it does nothing. Most of the sweep is wasted and you can't really get those cool swell effects as most of your foot movement does nothing.
Unless you want an on-off switch, buy a different pedal.
Great Volume Pedal
Really great design and quality, and moves smoothly. I like to make ambient sounds with it using my guitar with reverb.
Use this one as an Expression Pedal only
Very solid and easy to use expression pedal. Personaly I do not need a volume control and never used this product as a volume control pedal.
Perfect as expression pedal. Seems like it should survive even at Dillinger Escape Plan stage nuclear explosion-ish show ))
Real deal!
Big, elegant and sturdy pedal! Just use real professional cables with it! I don't like to turn off
the tone of my guitars from the killswitch or volume knob, I play metal and a volume pedal it's just ideal! It is mentaining the pure characteristics of the tone, so don't worry, just be sure that the level knob of it is setted to 0. Cheers!
A tank of a volume pedal
Pros: solid and very well made, nice sweep and range, adjustable resiatance.
Cons: Large and a bit heavy - actually the weight is probably more of a pro because the pedal tends to stay where you put it.
I really like the design of the pedal, it is a substantial piece of aluminium and I am sure the band could park the fully loaded transit van on it without harming the pedal at all. Rather than the more common 'rack and pinion' drive this uses a sort or swivelling lever which gives a wider range to the pedal which is nice as is being able to adjust how freely the pedal moves. Has tuner and expression bedap outs too so plenty of flexibility, just check the size if you want to put it on a pedalboard.
Excellent pedal
Great for playing guitar solos and controlling the volume of the guitar. No need for battery or power supply in order to use it. The only thing I would fault it for is that it's quite big and bulky but that's my personal opinion. Some people like to have big and bulky pedals.
Great value
Love this pedal. Use it with electric and acoustic guitar but mostly useful to me when playing with my acoustic guitar.
Heavy as a brick
Which is good. It is a volume pedal and expression pedal in one. I use it for swells and for muting when playing, and if I patch it to my katana I can use it as a wah wah with the correct preset.
Looks and feels like a tank.
Go for it!
This is my first volume pedal... After a long period of comparing volume pedals I decided to go for this one, and I am glad I did. I am still in the experimental fase, but for now I use it just after my guitar, to control the amount of gain going from a more or less clean tone until a raoring beast. That is where the control for minimum volume is very handy. This thing is build to last for a long musical relationship. One obstacle I encountered is that the tuner output is not accessible for angled connector cables (at least for mine...). I still have to integrate it into a pedal board, and I hope it is not too heavy... Anyways, this is one of the must have pedals and still for a reasonable price. Gain/volume control and still having your both hands available to play: it's a keeper
Best volume pedal ever
Very comfortable under the foot, simple use and built very sturdily.
Big but Beautiful
This hunk of metal takes up the most room on my pedal board, but I have no complaints. In honesty I don't know why it's not priced at twice the amount it's at. Very comfortable action and amazing control during gigs.
Very Good Pedal
I bought this pedal to help create ambient swells and take the job away from my volume control on the guitar.
I did a bit of research, and the main reason I bought this particular pedal was that there was no power supply required. I have a behringer expression pedal that I had some difficulty with, mainly due to having to buy a separate power supply because when I ran it off the Harley Benton Powerplant, it wasn't a happy camper at all.
Anyway, the FV-500-H got great reviews online as far as volume pedals go, and, like I say, no power supply required.
I didn't have any problem with it at all until I bought a BCB-60 pedal board, when I was disappointed to discover that it is that little bit too big to fit inside, even after removing the particular part that would allow for a wah pedal or some such. No big deal, as I would've had to evict more important pedals to allow for it anyway.
The FV-500 is reasonably heavy, quite sturdy, and feels just fine under foot. It is possible to adjust the overall feel and indeed even the volume range. Overall, I am quite happy with this purchase because it is of great quality and does exactly what it is supposed to do.
Great as an expression pedal
I used this with a TC Electronic G-System to control both the volume and expression effects. A well built robust pedal that is used for 2-3 hours a week and has never let me down. The pedal has a smooth and responsive travel very little latency with used with the G-System would highly recommend.
Boss FV-500-H
Got it for ambient sweeps and basic volume regulation - gets the work done.
+The pedal feels great and is really easy to use. Movement is smooth got used to it and completely owned all functions I wanted already after the first 10 minutes.
+Volume control knob is very useful if youre using it for some boosting action in live performances.
+The size of this pedal is large enough for "Big Foot's feet". As a guy with a 11.5 foot size love it.
+Aluminum body aint that heavy and feel like a real thing, not some plastic toy.
-Not pedalboard friendly. It's really big but the size makes it comfortable.
-It's Not "active" for some of guitarists that's a breaking point, but to be honest isn't that big of a difference.
Overall, a great volume pedal. The price is way too small for the quality. Yes it's big, and the aluminum body makes it a bit heavy, but that makes it very convenient to use. Volume and expression functions works great, what else do you need?
