The Akkordzither 100/4 is a lovely instrument with a fine finish and the mandolin stringing produces lovely bell like tones. When you consider free shipping from Germany to England and take off 20% VAT you then begin to realise what great value for money. it is just a really well constructed and finished instrument.

The quality of manufacture is superb! (German engineering at its best!)(Should that be Craftsmanship?) The tuning pegs appear very modern with what looks like metal inserts. I'm impressed with how well they stay tuned. Only 74 strings to tune! (A bit different from guitars). I'm grateful someone else has fitted all the strings very neatly. Now all I have to do is develop my technique. A well fitting thumb pick is really essential to play this instrument (as I discovered) and although one is provided it would not fit my thumb at all. It appears to be about size 4 and stainless steel. The sizes range from 0 to 8 and my size now seems to be 7. If you are new to playing, get a good thumb pick that really fits you!
