Daddario EXL117 Reviews
Best strings for drop C
The best strings for drop C tuning. Period. They just deliver, perfect balance between low strings tension and high strings usability. Perfect match for guitars with 25.5 scale. Tried 'em on a les paul and I felt that on the low C something was missing. In that case , I'd recommend a .059
Daddario strings last longer than Ernies, and are brighter sounding.
Strings.
I was using these for drop C the low string was a bit big for me but had the tension I was looking for, took a little getting used too but sounds good.
Good quality as expected from Daddario
I purchased these strings in order to tune down to C# and they handle the tension required for this tuning well. I had no problems tuning lower too. The sound is a little brighter than I'm used to but this is likely due to the guitar used rather than the string.
Great strings
Using these to play in D standard, the tension is perfect! However, the sound isn't quite perfect for me, as I usually use pro steels, for the added brightness. However, I couldn't find the gauge I like for D standard as pro steels. These are however, a sublime compromise
Brilliant strings
I've been using D'addario strings for at least 5 years now, and on every one of my guitars. I normally used 10's but fancied a change as i was going to experience with different tunings. These strings held up fantastically and touch wood, I've only had one string breakage in those five years!
Very good !
These string are amazing, I play in C# Standard playing songs from band like Dying Fetus, and Suffocation etc. The guitar I use is Esp/Ltd EC-100.The lowest I would tune these is B standard maybe drop A, personalty its to loose at drop A but barley enough for B Standard, the highest I would tune with these is D standard they are pretty tight but not to tight. These strings never break, they just get too old and I have to change them. But after awhile the G string has trouble staying in tune, but when you get to the point when it isn't staying you probably should have changed them already.

Hi!
I´ve recently discovered these strings for me. I was in the middle of recording process and I needed some fresh strings. I found one set at home and bought a couple of them at a local guitar store. Normally I used to play on Rotosound MA11 sig. set. So I will be comparing them a little.
I play an Ibanez RG2020x tunned in drop c. Over the years I figured out the perfect set for me - it was Rotosound MA11 (11-59), but I ran out of them and needed some fresh strings quickly, so I picked up the daddarios. Although the sixth string is a .56 gauge, the tension is quite nice and the strings feel nice. The quality is nice as well and I can play them for about 1-2 weeks, depending on the playing time. The sound is pretty bright and tight, provoking me to play djent and ola-style chugga-chugga all the time haha :D But to be honest the .59 rotosound string sounds more beefier. Generally the rotos sound a bit brighter and nastier then the daddarios. You should concider this when choosing the strings for your particular guitar. Also the .11 roto string has a little more tension then the daddario one, dunno why lol. The Daddarios are kinda easier to bend as well.
All in all, the daddarios exl117 are pretty good strings for standard D/Drop C tuning. I would suggest you to try the Rotos MA11 though.
Strings for dropped tunings
I use these strings for drop D to drop B tunings and these strings doing very well at these tunings.
Long durability and brilliant sound!
Daddario became one of the best strings in the world
Great strings!
These strings are great, I have them set up on my Drop C tuned guitar and for that they work great.
Nice, bright tone, great minimal packaging and a good variety of gauges to choose from.
Can't go wrong with these.
Awesome Strings
I use this string set by D'addario for my Drop B/Standard C# guitar. Despite being a string set meant for Drop D tuning, it holds heavy Drop B tuning really well. The clarity of the string is phenomenal and lasts for a very long time contrarily to some other brands.
There are no signs of oxidation on the strings out of the box and each strings are labelled by a colour code for ease of installation.
AMAZING!
These strings are simply amazing. The tone they have is extremely clear and is full of warmth. Highly recommend these for anyone that has a guitar that can handle an extra heavy gauge. Sounds great for rock, metal and even a clean acoustic sound.
