Digitech DOD Carcosa Fuzz Reviews
Versatile Fuzz pedal
The DOD Carcoza Fuzz is a fairly versatile fuzz pedal with both a pleasing sound and artwork. It was my first fuzz pedal and I still haven't quite understood what each knob does, and have instead dialed them until I get the tone that I want.
I switch it on whenever I'm looking for a fat and dirty sound, and that it achieves.
The fuzziness ranges from a soft, dynamic crackle to a screwed-up, almost 8-bit sounding fuzz. Whether you want a thin, medium or FAT sounding tone, you can achieve all three. The switch in the middle switches up the overall tone between a fat, thick sounding one to a more tinnier one. The only flaw that I find with this pedal, is that it 'pops' when you switch it on and the light on the front is BLINDINGLY bright.
But overall, it's a decent pedal.
Excellent and flexible fuzz
Read and listened to a lot of reviews and decided to buy this one - and no regrets! Since this is my first fuzz, I cannot compare it with other fuzz pedals.
I wanted a fuzz that is not very extreme, something that goes more in the territory of overdrive and distortion. And this is definitely it. Although you can get crazy fuzz sounds as well, because it is really flexible, for me it shines when it is in a more moderate fuzz level. You can set it so that it sounds almost like an overdrive and what I really like is that it cleans up very nicely with volume knob on guitar (if needed).
PROs:
- great sounds
- lots of flexibility in finding the sound you like/need
- cleans up greatly with volume knob
- very attractive in terms of case looks/design
CONs
- none really
Definitely a fuzz to keep and recommend
This is a fantastic FUZZ!
As in the title, this is a fantastic device.
I don't wanna stress you with feature's description (there are plenty of YT video out there).
All I can say is this fuzz is really playable: I mean not farty, note cancelling, not a 'gated' fuzz if you know what I mean.
I use it in front of my brand new Marshall Origin 50C (which also I love) and it's sound killer.
Right amount of distortion with strong fuzz character, from subtile to massive but always playable.
CON: I would have preferred IN and OUT jack on the top of the box but this does not affect the full 5 stars score!
This thing is a swiss army knife
Does everything from overdrive, distortion, all the way to gated fuzz. 3 pedals in 1 for <100? Bargain. And BTW, it sounds great in all of these settings.
so goood
If you are tired of all the big muffs and fuzz faces, just get this.
Carcosa is super versatile. It goes from medium fuzzy drive thru high gain fuzz that feels like your amp is gonna blow up, to absolute gated spitty madness, where you really have to smash it just get your anything out of it.
The high cut comes very handy when the treble gets out of control.
Oh and the switch. There are two modes. Hali is for lower gain that with some bit of tweaking can get you vintage sound. But oh lord how i love the upper mode. Demhe mode gives you more gain and low mid boost, wich sends you to early QOTSA and Kyuss realm, or basicly anything with stoner vibe. Also it cuts thru the mix very well.
Overall, for under 100 euros, i dont think you can get anything better .
Love it.
This pedal is really awesome. Even though it says fuzz on it, it if you play with the nobs you can get a not to bad overdrive tone. Also it has a lot of volume, unity gain is at about 9 o'clock. One thing that might be nice if it maybe had a boost switch for solos. Other than that it's a really awesome pedal especially for the money, in my opinion if your thinking of building your first pedal board this pedal would fit very well on it. This thing is very versatile and if your thinking of buying it go for it you probably won't regret it.
Fun Pedal!
I used it with a short-scale bass that had floppy strings in conjunction with an octave pedal and was able to get some cool synth-like sounds. I had no other use for it, so when I was done pretending to be a synth player, I sold it.
magnificent
I cant say enough good things about this pedal, sounds is great, versatility is huge, combines beautifully with my two amps (laney and peavey) providing different flavors.
The art and the king in yellow theme fits nicely, i would buy a second one as a backup !
Superb fuzz
Great fuzz for the money! It has ability to produce so many different sounds and noises! I can highly recommend it as an experimental tool for all of us who like to looking for some queer sounds. Yeh, you can use it in ?fuzz classic? way. And I absolutely love to play all the Sabbath stuff with this effect. But the real fun begins when you put Carcosa to the limits. Your guitar will be than like bloody heavy loaded machine - sometimes with broken wheels, sometimes like a bulldozer.
Meaty fuzz tones
Great fuzz tones, with singles or humbuckers
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZZZZZ!!!
Yeah baby, that was what I was looking for. The reviews were raving and they did not lie. I am so happy I got this. It got all the usable tones that you can imagine and it's still a normal price for mortals, not like some boutique fuzzes which cost 200¤+. On my board all the time.
Great versatile fuzz
Simple to use, dynamic, sounds great on pretty much every setting you put in on. Sturdy, don't see myself looking for more expensive fuzzes. A great bang for the buck.
WOW!!! great fuzz tones...but more than that
I bought this pedal because
1) I love DOD
2) I wanted a fuzz
3) I heard it does different types of fuzz well
It lived up to this, and more, not only does it do an array of fuzz tones, from vintage to modern to broken splutter, to muff esque, it does OD and distortion tones as well, and it does all of these very well
I did not intend for this to end up on my main board, it was meant to be a writing tool, and a fun pedal...but its so good i had to change my board and add this
I personally use this for a hi gain distortion/fuzz tone, This pedal is capable of some classic vintage stuff, but also some truly brutal dirt, and I will be using it at the latter end , (think somewhere between Doom metal and Converges Jane Doe album)
This pedal is a beast and can do so much, from od to distortion to fuzz and splutter, you can even use it to boost a dirty amp, and its really great at all these Love this pedal so much looks great sounds great, its not mega budget but its not expensive, and its well made, easy to use, i have literally nothing bad to say, and there is only one possible way this pedal could be improved, and that would be an independent bass control, but the controls give you so much scope that you dont need it anyway
Interesting but a bit fiddly pedal
What we have here is a good sounding fuzz at 99 bucks. Couldn't resist this deal, looking that other fuzzes I liked were somewhere in 200's.
It provides 4 controls + a switch:
- Before (seems to boost the input signal, and also is the major static booster if not careful with it)
- After (the general fuzziness control. On minimum settings it'll sound more akin to a distortion, on maximum - all out fuzzy and breaking up)
- Output (I guess this is supposed to be the level knob?)
- Hi Cut (allows you to set how much of the high frequencies are allowed at output).
- The switch (this seems to be full vs. mid-scoop mode).
One of the problems I've faced with this pedal is that 3 of the 4 knobs seem to affect volume, so it's a hassle to level it out properly.
In general tho, this can be a pretty good sounding pedal, if used properly in a proper context. Right now I've not found a good use for it in our doom/sludge band, but I hope to find that tone I want out of it in near future.
All in all, it's a cool pedal that is pretty cheap and well built, so if you have a spare hundy, try it out.
Should probably be great for stoner and other types of rock. For more metalesque types of music - maybe not so much.
I've bought this pedal to use with bass and it is a great fuzz. Affordable but very good sound quality. It is very versatile and can achieve a great variety of sounds, from softer drive to high gain distortion up to fuzz mayhem. The after knob allows works wonders for the tone, from a more open fuzz to spatty and gated fuzz tones. It doesn't loose low end, so it works really well in Dehle mode, but the Hali mode, more treble oriented, has also quite usable tones to use with bass.
It's a great fuzz for it's price.
