Interesting new tonal options

Endless sustain in a very handy enclosure. It takes a little practice to get the right distance from the E-bow to the strings, but once you get the hang of it, it provided some interesting new tonal options, especially for soloing purposes.

The new 'harmony' setting is pretty cool too, and the battery life is pretty ok too. I'm not sure if this warrants a price of EUR 90,-, but it's definitely fascinating.

PROS : It's kind of essential if you are into creating soundscapes and there are some different ways that you can use it.

CONS : Most of the time it's not enough by itself. You'll most probably need a delay , reverb , volume pedal to get that big washy sound that you might have in your mind.

It's a nifty thing

It's a cool thing to record some cool effects, does sound pretty good for some epic intros and stuff.

The major drawback for me is how it's comprised - the all sealed plastic casing, that seems pretty fragile. Plus the insides are not fixable, as they're encapsulated in epoxy goop. So if a wire does come off or anything, you really have to break it to try fixing it, and even then - there's no guarantee you will be able to without messing things up.

So there you have it.

Great toy for guitarrists

I play in a pro cover band.

And I'm struggling to use the E-bow in a couple of songs, but is difficult to find a spot where the unit can shine as it deserves...It produces infinite sustain on one single sting. Forget about chords. You only get infinite sustain on one string at a time.

I love to play with the envelope of the sound (Attack-Decay-Sustain-Release) There's not other way to easily manage this without an E-bow.

So...interesting sound, but hard to use it in a live situation,

Beautiful tool

Highly recommended with humbucker pickups!

Noise and volume jumps are the biggest problems when used with single-coil guitars, even if it still remain highly usable.

A good delay and/or reverb recommended!

Lovely little thing

Bought it out of curiosity and it's a really fun gadget.

Can't really do much live with it without a bit of thought and work put in but it's really fun at home.

Unique and great to have around the house.

I'm glad I bought it, finally.

I had read many mixed reviews of this product and I'm glad I eventually went and ordered one. It's a totally unique sound and if you're interested in this kind of thing, it's a must have piece of equipment.

The build quality is very plasticy, but I guess that keeps it light, it is a hand-held device, so you don't want it to be heavy at the end of the day.

The normal and harmonic settings create totally unique sounds and there's hours of fun to had just messing around with it, but there are also loads of techniques if you look up tutorials on it. Things like mimicking cellos, flutes, strings etc.

I can't speak for you, but I'm very glad I bought it.

I really like the E-Bow because it allows you to get an infinite sustain on any electric guitar. It has two settings: with the first, you generate a rich, warm sound, with it's intensity growing as you approach the E-Bow towards the pickup; with the second setting, you generate an harmonic on the fret you're pressing.

Either setting provides a soundscape-like sound, very ethereal: add some reverb and you're in heaven.

The setbacks on this gem are the price tag and the unability to generate this type of sound on more than one string at a time, quite like a violin. Maybe that's why it's called an E-Bow. :D

ebow

Not a bad bit of kit, a bit tricky to use at first until you get the technique right,a nice little tool to have in your box

Very interesting...

+ It does what it says, it truly sounds like an guitar played with a bow.

+ makes songs really dramatic, awesome and on gives a great blast in finishing chorus of the song!

+ When you learn how, it's easy to use it.

- Cheap design, the button that switches from harmonic off and normal is quite easy to break, i would want it to be more durable for that price.

- You have to learn and understand how to use this device, but they give understandable instruction, READ IT! :)

Anyways, i love having it!

There's a learning curve, but it's so much fun!

I've had the E-Bow for a few months now and while it doesn't get use everyday, whenever I do pick it up I'm always left feeling inspired.

It's fantastic for ambient sounds but there is a learning curve to using the E-Bow that you will need to overcome. At first it will take some getting use to when finding the exact position the E-Bow needs to sit. The grooves on the underneath help the E-Bow rest on two strings, but this won't help you on the low/high E string. It can also be tricky to switch between strings and immediately get the string vibrating, leaving silent gaps in your music.

Once you get over the hump though it's a great product that adds diversity to your playing.

Good product

The e-bow is well made and fairly sturdy although the battery compartment is very small and does not always close properly. In relation to its sound and function it performs well with two modes offering standard and harmonic string vibration. It takes some practice to use but it is simple to operate. One downside which I encountered with this product is that the guitar is much louder when using the e bow compared to standard playing which means that it is quite difficult to switch between both styles of playing within one song unless you take a moment to adjust your amp settings. Overall I am happy with the product and have used it extensively in a studio setting but I have not tested on the road.

Useful, but takes some practice.

I bought this specifically for bass which it isn't designed for, however, it works well with a bit of practice and some patience. I'm loving it with my fretless and some overdrive too; yet to incorporate it into any band numbers but it's a lot of fun to play with so far.

Take a bow, E-Bow.

Brilliant little device, endless fun making weird and wonderful sounds. A little tricky to get the hang of but worth it!

Needs practice, does the task but looks fragile

This is unique. The only way to achieve similar results without it is with a Sustainer equiped in your guitar.

It needs a lot of practice to get the desired results.

You have to be very careful with the string height and the vibration amplitude because it may rattle against the ebow if too close or not work if too far.

It is difficult to use it at higher frets. in this situation, you need to find the right placement (most of the cases, around the midpoint between the fret and the bridge) and eventualy press it down to get it closer to the string.

It is very sensible to pickups. when placed over the pickup that you are using, it gets VERY loud.

When used at the first and sixth strings, it has no support at one of the sides, so ir requires you to be even more precise.

When you manage to master the ebow, you can do very cool stuff.

Although it works very well, it is extremely fragile. you have to be very careful or you will break it.

Sustained experimentation

This litle piece of gear is worth the price only if you are ready to spend some time developing its playing technique... It's for serious experimentacion. If you are just curios don't buy it: You'll have some fun but you'll pay a bit too much for the laugh. I'll tell you a secret: In my case, without pitch shifters involved in the job, I would not dare to use this gadget. I've just envisioned my harmonium-like-kind-of-guitar sound and I'm using it for sonic curtains in my songs. Feel free to patent the idea if you like it 'cause I did not copyryght it.

This new model of E-bow has two diferent playing modes. The new one is good to feedback with ease. Very cool, really. In this version of the engine a blue light helps you to keep in course with the vibrating string. Cool, too.

If only this peace of plastic could be more solid made, have more features and be cheaper, it could become an every guitar players tool.

Expensive toy

We're addicts !

This thing is way too expensive but it was worth every cent haha.

Too bad this is the only brand with this kind of device, there is no competition.

Also for this price it could have a little better build quality the plastic feels a bit cheap.

Battery lasts forever though.

Ebow Review

I think this is a really cool gadget. It's really great for adding subtle features and ornamentation to a piece of music. I found it a little tricky to get used to at first but that's true of most new things I would imagine. I personally really like it and it adds a really cool flavour to things.
