Elixir 14677 Stainless Steel L/M Bass Reviews
Dull sound
I'm disappointed in these strings, after the hype. I find the sound to fall somewhere between rounds and flats, but without the positive characteristics of either. Maybe they last a long time, but I found the way they sound out of the box and after about a week of playing extremely dull and uninspiring. I'd avoid these.
Best bass strings so far
I play with Elixir for several years now. Not only they last orders of magnitude longer than the other brands, but I have never broke a string since I switched to them.
Excellence
Always buy these they stay bright for longer and are no more expensive than other brands
My Go-to!
Slap and tone on my mid-range bass is great. The strings stay clean for a super long time, only need to change twice a year. (the bass is used in the studio once a week) My go-to, would recommend to a friend
Long lasting and bright
Perhaps a little too bright for many people's tastes, but I love these strings.
Durable and great tone
If your are looking for a long lasting and great tone strings, this is one of the best and my personal fav. for durability.
Best strings ever!!!
If you need good, stable string with long last sound of new, buy it!
If you like muddy bass tone, don't buy them! :)
Good sound
I haven't used Elixir for many years, and I was again impressed by the sound of the strings, which remains well sounding for months, as long as you clean the strings with proper string cleaning products.
However, the low E-string broke after only a couple of weeks, and when I thought about it I haven't broken a string for many years, since actually I was using Elixir (also the low E-string that time). Maybe a coincidence, but in my thought it points to weak build quality.
So, good sound but use with a bit of extra care
Elixir=Quality
Whatever I bought from Elixir is quality. Totally worth it
Inconsistent quality
Last time I bought these.
They're great when you're lucky. But in the last few packages I've had dead strings, or lots of black spots on new strings.
Not acceptable for this price.
I'll be testing out other coated strings/brands.
Perfect
After one year of active use, the sound is very good and clear, just couple of dark spots on the strings and coating is torn where fingers are plucking, but that should be expected after one year of use.
I'm just thrilled to have this strings on my bass
I have to buy another set for test how long will perform good without cleaning the string..... :)
Awesome
They sound good for their lifetime. You can get away with changing strings twice a year.
They are pretty pricey though, but worth it.
Ok, they cost more, but they last 5 times or more as long
The real benefit in these strings is just how much abuse they take and still sound bright months later. I used to play cheaper strings in the c.¤20-25 range but I found that these lost their brightness after 2 months versus the Elixirs which could last 6 months or more without costs 3 times the price. I wouldn't buy any other strings now.
Eternal stainless steel sound
I bought this set of strings a loooong time ago, because I was searching for a set of stainless strings for bass that would last for some time.
Well, let me just tell you that I kept those strings for years, I don't even remember how many now, and they still had that twangy, bright metallic tone to them....even too much if I can say! I replaced those only because I wanted my bass to sound completely different at some point. Pricey but if they are your thing...they will last!
best buy
best buy, and best sound,
Mixed feelings
I am undecided on these strings. Usually I use DR steel ones, but on peer pressure I finally tried Elixir again (last time was more than 15 years ago).
The quality of these strings is excellent really, it is the sound that somehow is like... like nothing. No character really. If you're okay with that, go for it. I like my strings to have character.
Smooth Stainless Steel
They don't sound and feel like the pure stainless still strings maybe due to the nanoweb coating, but it seems they last much much longer.
That "zing" sound from the pure stainless steel strings is still there but not so bright.
If you are tired of changing your stainless steel strings because they become horrible dead flat after 2 or 3 weeks, this is a good solution. Also the coating gives a nice and "slicky" feeling, good for slides.
Elixir Stainless Steel Medium Bass
By far the best electric bass strings I have ever bought. They completely transformed my bass the tone is fantastic. The strings work for all types of music and sounds great when slapped, picked and finger picked. I have had the strings on almost two months now and they still sound epic with no drop off what so ever. Overall they are brilliant and I will never buy any other strings again apart from these.
Elixir Stainless Steel Medium Bass Review
First time using Elixir on my bass guitar and they are great. They are a little more expensive but the difference is huge, the sound is better and they are very comfortable to play. It is very important for me because of the long and numerous gigs we play. For the ones that play a lot and need a comfortable, reliable and good quality bass strings - these are the ones!
Expensive, but great value
I bought these strings for my Fender Jazz bass having used the same brand on my acoustic guitar. The strings are really bright and give a nice punchy tone. Because they are coated, they are also a little more forgiving on the fingertips. I've read reviews that talk about the coating being worn off by the use of a pick, but I've not experienced that to date. They are expensive initially, but they stay bright for much, much longer than your typical bass string. For me, that adds up to great value (I don't like spending my evenings restringing!)
I'm a convert and now use these on all my instruments (electric and acoustic).
