Elixir 14677 Stainless Steel L/M Bass Reviews
Finally a coated string with the sound of stainless!
Imagine having stainless steel strings that sound mildly used out of the box. Most of the "zing" is still there, and it stays there! These strings seems to never go dead! I played the regular nickel ones before and I have never liked that sound, but used them anyway since I was sick of strings going dead after a month or so. Before coated strings I was always a stainless steel player. So when Elixir released these the decision was a no brainer.
Another great thing about these is that the coating makes them a little easier on your fingers. The coating makes them slightly slippery, not in an annoying way, and it makes slides easier and they dont feel as rough as regular stainless steel strings usually feel. A win/win situation.
If you like stainless steel strings these are the ones to have. I have them on 2 of my basses and they have been there for about 6 months. Still sound like they did on the first day.
Different but great
Yet so far I did not decide to spend that much money on a set of new bass strings.
As I realized that my Rotosound Swing Bass Set lasts shorter and shorter with its freshness and the costs exceeded I decided to buy the Elixir Stainless Steel set for my Jazz Bass. When you take the string out of the paper you realize at first that they feel very comfortable and not that sharp as many others of this category do. Strung up the instrument had to be adjusted. These strings are harder to pull than others I tried before. So when you decide to play them be aware to take some time to get common with the strength, even if my Roto set was a 105, too. Once getting comfortable with it you will love it! Because of the Nanoweb layer they may not sound that sharp as a new set of Rotosound strings but also not that flat as when the Rotos are played. All in all a very great set of strings which someone should try who wants to have some which last longer and sound fresh.
Smooth and present
These strings feel different, than uncoated strings. The coating gives you a very smooth feeling, the fingers glide better on the strings. I like that feeling, but some might prefer rough, uncoated strings.
The coating takes a little top end off compared to uncoated strings, but only in the beginning. They keep their sound over a very long time. The sound itself is well balanced between attack and deep bass with a little more aggression than the nickel ones from Elixier. I use them on all my basses.
Elixir is great for bassists
In the past I tried a lot of strings on my bass guitars (Fender P-Bass, Squier Telecaster Bass, Les Paul Bass). My final choice is Elixir! All of these nanoweb coated steel strings (and the phosphores also) sounds great! My band members told me they like my Elixir's tones. Not as bright as non-covered strings, but much more durable! Traditional strings lasts for 5-6 weeks on my bass. Elixir strings lasts 5-6 months (!) and also sounds good on the 7th month.
Elixir Nanoweb Stainless Steel Bass Strings
These are excellent strings which have the thump of a round wound and smooth feel of a flat wound. The feel of the strings were great and not as Zingy as other round wounds thanks to the special coated material. They last well and provide a solid consistency in performance, would I recommend them- YES
