About Epiphone
Founded : 1873
Epiphone was founded in 1873 in Istanbul, Turkey by Anastasios Stathopoulos, who started by making lutes, violins, and other stringed instruments. In 1903, Anastasios moved to the United States and began making mandolins in New York City.
Epiphone really took off in the 1920s, when the company began producing high-quality archtop guitars that were popular with jazz musicians. The company was acquired by the Gibson Guitar Corporation in 1957, but continued to produce its own models under the Epiphone name.
Over the years, Epiphone has produced a wide range of guitars, from affordable beginner models to high-end instruments that are popular with professional musicians. Some of the company's most famous models include the Casino, which was favored by the Beatles, and the Sheraton, which was played by blues legend John Lee Hooker.
Today, Epiphone is owned by Gibson and continues to produce a wide range of guitars, including electric and acoustic models, as well as basses and other stringed instruments. The company remains a popular choice among musicians of all levels and genres, thanks to its reputation for quality and affordability.
