Surprisingly good

I purchased this as a quick replacement for kick drum mic and it went on a big tour. I like the sound I got, but it took some experimenting. The response (tonality) with positioning was quite different from what I expected, but once I found the sweet spot I was happy. No disappointment here. It held up really well for a year now and stays in my Mic case.

EV always trusted

This is a great Bass Drum mic. I am using it outside the bass drum and it gives me the exact right tone and balance I am looking for.

I am using via a Warm Audio Tone Beast, so I can drive things gently if I need to, but the mic itself is another piece of quality from EV.

The RE20 being one of my favourites, I think I may have another beauty in my collection with this one :-)

worth the price

For the price of this mic, cant really beat it. Works well as a budget kick out and a bass cab mic, build is pretty great for the price and comes with a pouch and clip. Overall a great budget option that also sounds pretty good

Good tailored response for kick drum at a good price.

I had the cheaper T Bone mic fail on me so needed a replacement. I fancied getting a D112 again but whilst the MkII appears to have attempted to fix its one flaw (tricky to get through a hole in the front skin) it didn't look to have been entirely successful. The EV caught my eye, and since I've been impressed with EV mics I've had in the past, I decided to go with this. It's as well built as the previous EV mics I've owned, and I like the low end resonance. All at a mid level price.

decent kick/ bass mic

I mostly recorded bass drums with it... Very versatile and kinda boomy, but important thing is it catches the attack and low end so perfect so the kick drum fits the mix so good. Also recorded some bass guitars with it, totally worth it. I love Electro Voice mics!

Better than I expected but...

I bought this mic with the intention to use it on a kick.

To start with, build quality of this mic, I would say, is phenomenal considering the price. I was really surprised when I first picked it up, as it feels robust and hefty.

Now, considering its recording capabilities, it definitely delivered when placed in front of the kick. It can manage really well on high pressure levels and the sound it produces is solid and detailed enough.

My only issue with this mic is its freq range (20-10k), unlike the akg d112 (20-17k), and I can say that lacking these 10k and above is an obvious loss for my ears. But then again buying this mic was a conscious choice, as I knew that in advance.

Pros:

+ build quality

+ sounds great and definitely delivers

+ pouch and mount ring included

Cons:

- Frequency range is a bit narrowed, missing all the crispy highs compared to AKG D 112 and similar mics.

Can definitely recommend this mic, as I find it a good choice for recording kick if you are looking for a full and warm sound.

My preferred Kick drum mic

I'd choose this mic over some of the more industry-standard bass mics. It has a nice clear but fat sound. Very versatile. No Cons

DEAL

Have used this for demos and writing purposes in our studio.

It's built with kick drums in mind. Take the reso head of the drum and sit it just inside, half way high and have a nicely tuned head with a bit of dampening and you're done. Seriously thumping kick, match it up with a LD condenser for the attack if you want to get serious. But for the price its seriously faultless, I prefer this over the D112 that my friend has.

I used it on a bass cab and blended it with the Sans Amp direct out for some extra low end and it did the job perfectly.

Pros; Price, build quality, sound

Cons; One trick pony

best bass drum mic on the market for the cost

the entire Pl range is fantastic, you can't get better for the cost, I have several sets, they are built like tanks & can take some hammer, but they sound & work great.... way better than most mics at double their cost. great for venues, bands & studios who need something rugged.

NIce!

First of all - it's built like a tank.

Second - sound is very good, tight and punchy, but if you want can be more airy - depends of your settings.

You can have hard rock bass drum sound or oldschool boomy fill.

Great.

Very good microphone

This is a very good microphone for the price. We use it for live drum micing and it does a decent job. It works well for the recording too.

I needed a cost-effective mike for kick drum...

I work in a small club, and sometimes with 2 band.

In the club is only few cheap microphone, with cheap voice, so i have to buy a kick mic for myself.

My pocket is not full with money for this, so i looking for cost-effective mic, thats why i bought this mic.

First time, when i use it, i didn't belive my ears. First i flatten the channel EQ, switch on the channel, and that was all my job with this mic.

Clear, nice, "fat" low-end, and enough punch for most of the rock bands. I would like to try it on bass amp too.

Pros:

- Clear, dynamic punch, and clear low-end.

- The price

Cons:

- None yet.

The best for this price

I took it for my rehearsal space - it's quite big space, so I needed the mic for bass drum. And for this price it's the best mic. I have received what I was looking for, nice sound of the bass drum, but it depends on PA system as well.

Very, very nice sound.

Quality: Everything is quality, everything is fine.

Features:In the set with the microphone there is a soft pouch, but for concerts I use a hard case. In standard eguipment, there is no hard case but the cost is not high, so it's all good.

Sound:The sound is excellent! 10/10. I use this microphone at rehearsals and at concerts. Everything sounds as it should. Not felt in the sound that you are for something overpaid. In general, it is a reliable assistant musician

Great mic!

This thing sounds almost exactly as a lot pricier Shure Beta 52. I'm using it with my band during rehearsals, as well as planning to use it in recording (in my inears, the kick, barely eq'ed, sounds really fantastic).

Also, this thing is build like a tank. Totally recommend it, as I think this is the best sounding kick mic in this price range.

Extremely impressive mic

I must say this is an awesome bass drum microphone. It is of very good quality and is very robust.

The hypercardioid polar pickup pattern of this mic is a great plus for reducing feedback and bleed from other sources in the studio and on stage.

I have also used this mic for recording a bass cab to try and capture the the low end features and it sounds great.

Pros:

1) Quite sturdy and will take some beating.

2) The hypercardioid polar pattern is a great feature.

3) Comes with mic clip, velcro cable tie and bag for mic.

4) Frequency response(20 - 10,000 Hz) ensures that you can capture lots of low end from the likes of a bass drum, floor tom or bass cab.

Cons:

1) It doesn't produce the same natural attack compared to the likes of some more expensive mics but that's nothing a bit of compression and EQ won't fix.

-----------------------

Summary:

I would definitely vouch for this mic as it is an extremely solid, decent microphone for a very affordable price that has plenty of great features.
