EV RE20 RE-Series Reviews
Highly recommended!!
Extremely useful and versatile mic, with transparent sound quality!
Great mic for cabinet miking, brasses, and if the voice matches, for vocals.
I absolutely love this mic on double-bass, when aimed to the fingerboard !!
It is also my go-to bass drum mic, especially in more "jazzy" environment.
EV-RE20 doesn't maybe give you the sound you're after straight away, but it takes EQ extremely well!! In this regard I prefer RE20 it to it's "nemesis", SM7. If you record anything with EV-RE20, with right EQ you can do wonders, even to the tracks that sound completely horrible!
EV-RE20 works also great in live environment.
It is a tad pricey. But after using it in numerous sessions I can definitely understand why it's always ranked in the top category among the dynamic microphones!
Multipurpose mic with a reliable punch.
I have used this microphone for many applications from vocals to percussion.
I find the sound slightly brighter but with a more solid midrange than an SM57 on guitar amps which helps the sound cut through in a busy mix.
Inside a kick drum the RE20 provides plenty of attack from the beater whilst still offering a quite traditional bass drum sound, not hyped like there Audix range. Also been very successful as a rear mic for a cajon.
The proximity effect is very controlled on this mic due to the shape and design which is perfect for vocalists who either prefer to hand hold the mic when performing / recording or have poor microphone technique when singing.
No, it's not cheap but you get a very robust mic in build quality and sound!
Fantastic microphone
I'm mostly using it to saxophone and trumpet, both studio and live and it produces fantastic result every time!
RE20 is very well built and solid construction and comes with a great case.
