EV RE20 RE-Series 5-stars Reviews
My fav radio mic.
I own a sm7b and this RE20. Both go to rhe i respective dbx286s. For some reason my voice doesnât work with the sm7b (same settings) but sounds perfect with the RE20. The sound is extremely important as I talk on a weekly radio show broadcast on more than 140 radios across the globe (one of the worldâs largest syndication). Needless to say, I need something very solid and the RE20 is absolutely amazing.
Amazing speaker for recording brass
I use this all the time to record my trombone at home and other brass instruments. A fantastic mic and at a very reasonable price.
Warm voice
Makes my voice sound warm when podcasting, helps achieving the "radio voice" in my barytone range. Not entirely Barry White but gets me closer.
Built like a tank.
Probably my favourite in the studio
I originally bought this mic as a bass drum mic.
But, for years I totally missed out on it's versatility.
It is a super smooth, well rounded, even and clear sounding mic.
It captures the lows of pretty much anything perfectly and has this wonderful roll off the top end.
It is so versatile and easy to use, strong and robust and probably my favourite mic in the studio.
I have used it on bass drum, bass cab, floor tom and vocals.
In every instance it is the easiest of all my mics to mix. Basically it captures the sound I want every time.
Close your eyes and click "buy"!
Seriously, I won't try to explain where this mic is good at, because it can be used everywhere. Except where the size and weight will not allow you... Because the beast heavy! And you'll need a real proper stand to hold the it in place if you don't want to see what 600€ look like when hitting the floor...
The best for me
I use it for voice over work and I couldn't be happier.
The best all around dynamic mic
Suitable for the most recording applications , you can easily record everything. Broadcasting, bass drum, floor Tom , bass, toms, wings etc .Extremely high built quality. Highly recommended
Just great for spoken word
Much nicer sound than the NT-1 that I was previously using and, relative to that, cuts about 10 dB from the fan noise coming from my desktop rack of AV kit (in which the fans in anything that is out of warranty or is reasonably priced have been replaced with Noctua).
Amazing Mic, hard to drive
So I tested out multiple microphones for spoken word and this one is without a doubt, a winner. Having that said, you should be careful if you are using a preamp that costs ±200 EUR, it might not be powerful enough to drive it.
I also have RE320 and that one can easily be driven with something like Evo 4, however this one requires some extra punch.
After using it for quite a while, I can honestly say that this mic is legendary.
My new favorite vocal microphone!
Absolutely fantastic for both studio and live work. Loving it.
Love of my life
I immediately fell in love with this microphone. (Before I even tried it)
I use it mainly for vocals. I have a lot of low range in my voice and I like microphones that allow for my voice to sound soft and natural. I've now been playing about 40 concerts with this mic and most sound engineers, if doubtful at first, are really into the mic after the first couple of sounds. Live and in studio I'll never want to miss this beautiful microphone.
I also record clarinet and saxophone as well as some drums and an AC30 guitar amp with it sometimes and hardly use my phantom powered membrane mics anymore bc this is really all I (need) want! I hope to one day own another 1 or 2 of this and can highly recommend you to put aside your doubts and order this microphone yesterday!
Love this mic
A popular mic for broadcasting, this mic worked really great for me on vocals for several reasons. First, as a dynamic mic, it was much more forgiving in my home studio without picking up distant sounds like a condenser mic does. And the lack of proximity effect (unnatural lowering of frequencies when you get closer to the mic) meant I didn't have to remember the exact spot I was standing in between vocal takes. For a dynamic mic it also has much more clarity and better frequecy range than an SM58 (albeit at 5X the cost). It also took a pretty good unfortunate tumble but had no damage - its really well built.
The only negative is that it really needs a sold overhead shock mount which isn't include. It is quite a heavy mic, and as you sing into it head on, its hard to keep it in position, or from falling forward.
Worked well for vocals, also upright bass.
An impressive Dynamic mic
one of my favorite dynamic mic.
has a special quality sound especialy on voices.
highly recommended.
Great mic
Good price quality and it will handle pretty much everything you throw at it. Recommend it.
Good quality mic
Captures super nice and I am very happy with it so far.
My go-to Mic for live performing
I love this mic, I have used on all brass and woodwind instruments for live performing and it has performed flawlessly every time. Very little proximity effect is noticeable when using on a trumpet with a Harmon mute - the Shure 57 failed this proximity test and need someone on the mixer to keep up with the change in circumstance. With this mic you just stick the Harmon in and get as close as you can and play. Well worth the price in my book.
For guitar amp maybe the best
I use this robust and heavy weighted mic for low tom and guitar amp recording
Also for bass clarinet, saxophone - trumpet
with my 6176 or manley Core pres and I must tell this mic is incredible
I love my MD421's and that is better for snare but for the claimed targets the RE20 is beats everything - beats for example the C414 too.
The only thing is it is heavy, and the screw what fixes it in the holder, is not storng enough so it takes time to fix it's position.
I carry this with me to my concerts micing my guitar amp in live shows. The sound engineers loves the sound comes out from the amp through this mic.
Died and gone to mic heaven
Always wanted one of these, and not disappointed. Hefty beauty. Allows you to record just what you hear. Some gain is necessary, but that's what the knobs on your preamp are for. You need to be careful setting up the mic stand, as the RE20 is quite heavy, but that's fine with a good stand with tripod feet adjusted to allow for it. Great for voice. I've heard it's good for kick and string-bass too. Lovely on my bass adungu.
If you want the best Dynamic mic this is it!
If you want the best Dynamic mic of all look no further as THIS IS IT! Seriously, this is a wonderful little microphone that just does its job perfectly. If Stevie Wonder used it and made such an amazing songs I think it's good enough for me kinda thing. Very very versatile and you can use it on a ton of stuff!
For rap vocals this is a MUST and if you have a harsh sounding vocalist this might also be an option for you as it can deliver a much more mellow vibe. Seriously think everybody should have this mic in their arsenal as it is very versatile and can achieve excellent results!

10/10
Great Mic
Good value broadcast microphone, also works well in the studio. Good for bass guitars, vocals, guitars and bass drums. 'Flat' frequency response, so expect to use EQ to get the right balance. Overall, worth the money.
