Tiny Footprint, Studio Punch

The Genelec 8020 DPM studio monitor defies its size with surprisingly loud, accurate audio. Its flat frequency response lets you hear "every" detail in your mix. Built-in room correction allows for fine-tuning in any space, making it a powerful nearfield monitor for smaller studios and project spaces, despite the lack of super deep bass. Also consider Genelec 7040 Sub as a must have companion for the ones producing electronic genres.

I think you already know these are excellent!

(To cover the lower frequency range please combine with the appropriate sub-woofer if these will be your only monitoring source).

To my ears these provide excellent sound clarity. Depending on the source material, soundstage is convincingly realistic. Definition & separation of certain instruments and vocals is really magnificent (depending on the content).

Have been scared on a few occasions where I heard something and thought it was actually in my room but realised it was part of the music!

Build quality is excellent. Highly recommended.

Don't look for some Chinese-made speakers

If you've bought a cheap speaker that looks like it's going to be great and you're complacent, I'm telling you, be kind to yourself!

The neutral and honest sound of 8030d will not give you the illusion of being intolerant.

The place of manufacture does not mean everything, but sometimes the company's insistence on sound can be seen here.

Buy with confidence..Money~ is gone, it turns into voice and waits for you!

Amazing sound

Amazing sound, built like a tank, and nifty features at the back of it.

I found the auto switch on/off really useful to avoid having to reach behind the speakers when starting something on them.

Clever design all around.

I got these as I had to downsize my setup after a move. Was previously using Yamaha HS8 (sold-too big), and then iloud micro (NICCEEE) in the interim period, which is now being used as recreational pair of speakers due to bluetooth capabilities.

8020D was about as big as I could go with my current space limitations, and presently I'm on a tiny desk up against the wall in a corner while I set up my other small room to be a home studio.

Used the dip switches on the back to adjust to the room and placement as much as I could.

Speakers sound amazing and huge. Clear and detailed with great imaging. I can close my eyes and a solo acoustic performance feels like it's happening in front of me, almost as if I can reach out and touch the guitar. Hip hop and RnB is also rendered beautifully with nice, tight bass. I could go on but I'll stop.

I will eventually add the sub, because I can. But if I couldn't, I would still be very happy. The Moog still sounds FAT through these. Easily the best pair of speakers I've owned.

Room acoustics fall short way before these do

I produce music in a regular room and I have these with 1 Genelec sub. They are flexible with settings and sound great. Once I get my room treated these are going to shine even brighter. Genelec is a trustworthy speaker for music production.

Let's be honest.

Low frequency below 150 Hz?

It does, but it's not perfect.

It's clumped together, and it's blurry somewhere.

A "physically small woofer" is the reason.

But "Physical Little Woofer" expresses a clear mid-frequency that big monsters can't.

(You don't have to tell me about the perfection of Genelec's high frequency, do you?)

If your studio acoustic isn't perfect, choose this product, and make up for the weaknesses of low frequency with headphones.

This friend will serve properly.

I'm sure it's a great product not only for video work but also for entertainment.

Genelec never fails

Got a pair of these monitors for additional monitoring, as well as for listening to the music and checking test pressings. Has some doubts about their size but after their arrival and them being connected I was very much impressed by their sound.

Big sound in a small package

I love the Genelec sound and have a pair of 8351s at home. I bought these monitors because I'm on the road now and need great sound in a small package. These deliver! The bass extension is unbelievable. The highs and mids are pristine. Highly recommended!

Genelec 8020D

I recently bought pair of Genelec 8020D and use them all the time. Great speakers for reasonable price. Contemporary sound. Love it and can recommend.

Best mobile monitors

I have had two pairs of these over the years and have always been impressed with their sound quality. The built in EQ is great for using in varying situations, helping keep the response neutral. Add to that the cast aluminum enclosure and the grills and you have a real durable speaker that travels well. The only real competitor I have found is the smaller Neumann KH speakers. Having owned the 120's for years, I do love those speakers, but these sound just as good (at reasonable levels) and fit better in a pelican case than either the KH120 or the smaller KH80. I can get a pair of these, a DAC, and a laptop in a Pelican case sized for airline carry on.

Decent desktop speakers

Use them mostly to listen music at desktop and boy they good at details. I think it is even overkill for most of casual users. But if you can budget it - you will get that effortless sound only high quality active monitor can provide.

Also family Genelec sound is there - meaning this small guy will give you a clue how much bigger monitor could sound.

Compact, Great sound

Very easy to transport, sturdy build quality and fantastic sound. Gives you a surprising amount of low end information considering its size.

Great sound & excellent value for money

I have the genelec 8020 since 1 year now. The sound is brilliant considering the size and the cost. Built quality is exceptional. Last week my cat overturned my desk and both monitors fell off hitting a hard floor. Well, lucky me, but they still works perfectly and have very few cosmetics damages.

TO finish up, if you have a small room/studio, this model is perfect.

Great for small home studios

Very neutral and uncompromised sound, even though due to the small size of speakers they don't go very low in bass. I've complimented these with 7050B subwoofer which makes the setup perfect. Only thing feature-wise that is missing is DSP which can be found from 83 -series of Genelec speakers.

Good monitors for small rooms. But you need some room treatment, especially bass traps, if you want them to play nice.

Of course if you need a lot of bass, you need subwoofer, or bigger monitors. But in general it's a really high-end product.
