Harley Benton Amarok-6 BKBL Flame Burst Reviews
Blown away!
I've only seen videos of this guitar before i bought one. This guitar has far exceeded all of my expectations. The quality of this guitar was pristine, the pickups give you all the head room for gain. The tone knob acts like an overdrive pedal. I'm just blown away by this guitar.
Damn near perfect.
First off the thing is beautiful, excellent features from locking tuners, ss jumbo frets and emgs from the factory seems like a full 5 star. Unfortunately the wiring is... off, the volume control is kind of an on off thing, presumably this is a product of keeping costs down and not using emgs solderless solution. An easy remedy but unfortunately does knock a star off this review if an otherwise great guitar.
received
I received it safely.
There is no particular problem.
thank you.
It's ALL true!
Don't even try to tell me that you haven't been eyeballing this one for a while. all the good reviews are correct! A Metal'BEAST! Get it while you can
Unbeatable Value
Love this guitar, you can't beat the value offered by this model. The fit and finish is good but not great, I had to clean up some glue form the truss rod adjuster and it had a bit of fret sprout that need a quick file and buff. After doing those things it plays like a dream, love the tone and sustain that it offers.
great guitar
great guitar will built amazing pickups for metal, rock, etc.
Awseome guitar
Fat meaty sound, a bit of freat buzz, but for the price it's the way to go.
perfect for hard rock and metal. Good for playing solo. Look like best guitar. I ask my sister and friend what guitar looking better my G&L, Fender or Harley Benton and HB win.
They have nice sustain, good sound but Guitar fretboard requires adjustment.
Quality issues
The first one sent had a large square on the top where the stain had not taken. The second one sent had finish bleed onto the binding and someone had tried to cut it back and had exposed the veneer edge and bare wood in 2 places. Return for refund.
Great Opportunity, Not Great Execution
I bought the Amarok for 2 reasons, it has really impressibe specs and it looks very nice, at least in picture.
the one I get is 100% on the feature side, it has all and sounds and plays good but it has 2 problems: it does not match the picture (not even near to be flamed, maybe look painted, but not flamed) and the pick up selector is the chepest one I had ever seen, it vitrabrate in a irritating manner.
Ridiculous Specs at a Bargain Price
Purchased this guitar a few weeks ago on pre-order and it arrived very shortly after being shipped, very punctual.
Upon arrival the guitar was set up very nicely with no scuffs or blemishes, level frets and a nice straight neck.
Intonation was very nice and was set up well.
The specs on this guitar are ridiculous, a neck-through body that is light as a feather with a slim, comfortable neck and the pickups!
As a fan of the classic EMG 81/85 sound, I was contemplating swapping out the stock EMG's that came in this guitar, but I was pleasantly surprised by just how good they were, much more open and alive than the 81 but still powerful enough for high gain contexts such as melodic death metal and metalcore.
I own several Schecter's and an ESP Horizon and this guitar definitely holds its own with Schecter Hellraisers and Blackjacks that market brand new for twice to triple the price.
If you're looking for a neck-through guitar with great specs for metal, don't be shy to give the Harley Benton Amarok a chance - it's a genuinely great guitar.
The Only Neck-Through for This Price
Let's start with the bad:
- Neck pickup has something wrong with it. A lot of buzzing/hissing.
- Volume pot scrapes when turning and is hard to turn
- Blatant hole where they missed when pre-drilling for tuners on back of headstock
- A few tool marks and scratches (2 places)
- The 3 way switch should be angled, not straight up and down. Easy fix, but a strange choice
Some of these issues like the tools marks/scuffs are not a big deal considering the specs you get for the price. I was expecting some imperfections with the finish. The hole in the headstock and neck pickup are making me debate if I should return it. These are also why it got 4 stars from me. If the neck pup was fine and no hole in the headstock, 5 stars for sure.
Now the good:
- Not the thinnest neck, but comfy nonetheless and a great smooth satin finish on it.
- Pickups (minus the hissing) sound great! I was worried that I paid for EMGs just to get rid of them, but I like them and they're staying.
- Bridge is comfortable and easy to use
- Stainless steel frets are awesome at this price point and the frets were done very well even for higher end guitars
- Neck through construction...I mean, what more do you need to say? It's fantastic
- Locking tuners seem to be working great so far, slight instability but I've only had it one day and went from Germany to hot, dry Las Vegas so I expect some shifting. I think they'll work great.
- Beautiful. It's a very attractive instrument especially considering the price.
That's about it. All in all it's well worth the money. I'm thinking about maybe saving for a 7 string version now if my GF doesn't kill me for buying another guitar :D
Amarok Rocks
Excellent guitar. So excited to be among the first to get this one. Was amazed that after 13 day journey from Germany to US, the guitar was in perfect tune. Needed to adjust string height and neck, now is so sweet to play. I only wished the strap connection was in the normal place. A floyd rose and roasted maple neck would make it more expensive but would be well worth it. Also surprised there was no split coil on the push/pull.
Overall this is a suburb guitar for the price and my Harley Benton collection keeps growing because of the value. Thank You for providing professional grade features in well made guitars for the rest of us. I can afford the high dollar guitars, but why pay the outrageous prices from the big name makers?
Update: Had to repair input jack, connector would not stay plugged in. Finish of guitar under close inspection is not great. But I still love it and would like to get another one from a newer batch to see if they have improved after increasing production.
