Harley Benton Enhanced MJ-4EB Lake Blue 2-stars Reviews
Heavy but good sounding beast
I have to admit I purchased this bass because of the features it has for the price. When it arrived it was actually quite well set up, intonation was only slightly off. The quality control is not good - There is a drip in the paint, a chip in the paint (possibly the reason for this being a B-stock item), the pick-guard screws are put in crookedly and the tuner bushings are not pressed in straight. The bridge has been mounted off-centre and crookedly was well. As a result the strings are not directly above the pickup poles.
And the colour is way more Smurf blue than I had anticipated from seeing the photos. But some of these issues can be fixed...
The sound is really nice! Definitely not jazz bass sound, maybe closer to G&L L-2000. But it is good. You just don't get the jazz bass quack. This bass has more deepness to it's tone.
One issue which I am not super excited about is the weight. It weighs 10.62 pounds! This is 2 pounds more than my Fender jazz basses. I am guessing less expensive wood (although alder body and maple neck, similar to my Fenders) is the cause of this?
For now it will be a bass I play while sitting, if I keep it. lol
