Harley Benton JB-75MN NA Vintage Series 5-stars Reviews
Great bass
I couldn't be happier with this jazz bass. Looks great, plays great. Along with the single cut electric guitar, these were the beginning of many awesome Harley Bentons. I always recommend the product.
What the hey....!!!
This bass cam to my collection today. To be honest I did not expect much more than a playable, mediocre bass, but OH BOY was i surprised!
I have been an active bassist since the -80,s, and have owned a number of Fenders and Sadowskys. Now I play a Devon JB 5, but wanted a 4 sting. I decided to get a cheap bass which I could do some upgrading to. Since the pandemic has reduced gigs to the absolute minimum I could not spend a lot of money, so I took a chance on this Harley Benton.
I was immediately stunned by the building quality. Very nice 3 piece body that at a glance looks like one single. Smooth & thick C neck. Dead straight out of the box. Very fast! Good pots and surprisingly nice pups. sound very close to a late 70,s Fender Jazz. The bridge seems to work OK.
Some small cons: 2 frets are buzzing and needs some care. I play with a very low action, so others that play with higher action won´t notice this. Also, the frets are a bit rough. Easy to polish with some steel wool. Some fret ends needs to be fixed. The bass is heavy, but has good balance. There is no shielding of the electronics, so there might be some hum. Will fix this with some copper foil. The nut is of rather poor quality, but does the job so far.
This bass is a total surprise for a few bucks! I don´t think I wil do any mods on this one as I planned, except for some of the issues I have mentioned. It sounds and plays sweet.
What more can I say? I am deeply surprised!
Best bass on this price !
OMG
This is it. After watching a bunch of youtube reviews (both objective and subjective), I ordered one. Man, I'm impressed. Pickups aside, this is a much, much better bass than MIM F. Fret ends are not rolled but not rough (I won't file them down and won't be bothered by them). Neck is smooth. Tuners not rough.
Sound-wise? Good. But I think the pickups are way too strong. Slap tone is just jazz bass sound, which is good.
I won't complain about cosmetic stuff. I buy instruments to play, so unless something really visible, I don't mind. I don't see any defects (well, the pick guard's edges need to be cleaned up).
One minor thing I don't like: the knobs. They are cheap plastic and I guarantee they will break in the future. They're also inserted haphazardly so you really don't have a sense of where you are just looking at them. But this is a small problem since they're cheap to replace.
Currently, I just use the pickups as they are. I may replace them with DiMarzio Area J if I feel like it in the future. But these are already pretty decent. In fact, they have less noise than my Fender vintage pickups.
Wholeheartedly recommend it.
Great value for money
I have had this bass for almost a year now and have been using it mostly for recording bass tracks, since I'm primarily a guitar player.
It arrived in great shape and was ready to play right out of the box.
Plays and sounds very good and holds tuning very well.
Build quality is top notch, comparable with some of my $1000 guitars.
Also had zero technical issues with it so far.
Highly reccomend for someone looking for affordable and reliable recording tool, or maybe someones first bass (although it could probably be used professionally as well).
Best price/quality
For this price it's a masterpiece. Perfect choice to start you bassist carrier. Unexpected surprise that the original stringset sounds decent.
My only notice is that the wear plate get scratchy quickly, but it comes with the use of course :)
I ordered from Hungary, and the delivery was super fast. After the order I got the guitar and other products in one and a half week.
Great bass
I'm a guitarist who plays bass from time to time, didn't want to spend fortune on a Jazzbass, so ordered this Harley Benton. I have no experience with other Jazzbasses, but this one sounds and plays decent to me.
The look is gordeous, action was too low, so a lot of fret buzz from the box, but that was an easy adjustment to make, sound is fine, a bit of noise when only one pickup is active, but it's hum canceling while blending too pick ups together.
Great bass for this price.
Update - I installed a push pull for a series-parallel connection of the coils. Just look for the wiring diagram on seymour duncan website, called Jazz Bass series wiring. . Now it has also an additional kind of humbucker sound, with a higher output and. Highly recommended and easy mode.
I love this bass!
I think I like this bass more than my Fender Mexican standard jazz bass. The pickups sound different than my Mexican jazz bass, so this is a great addition. It is pretty heavy, but overall I love this bass!
Great instrument
I bought it and I felt in love with the instrument great sound it feels and sound like Jazz bass.it was so good that I bought the same to a friend as a gift
Great bass!
For the money, this HB bass is amazing! Looks good, sounds good, stays in tune well, what more do you need?!
A bass guitar for 140 stones.
To be honest im not a bass player but decided to get one. the quality, painting and finish are okay. but ive got fret buzz. with little bit of setup the guitar is playing like a charm. ITs very very close to the Squier JB series.
Im totally happy with the purchase!
A good surprise
I was searching for a cheap bass as I was overseas and didn't have mine with me. By the time I had never heard of this brand, but it was really cheap and there were some good reviews around. So I went for it and got really surprised by the quality, the finishing. I had to make some adjustments: lowered the strings, height of the pickups, I put good flatwounds, and it started doing the job! After five years, what was supposed to be just a temporary instrument, has been being used in recordings and gigs. It still looks great, like new, the only issue it had after a few years was with one tuner, but I managed to fix it. The only con is its weight, it's absurdely heavy.
Amazing
This bass has that classic JB growl and plenty of it. It's extremely bright in the best possible way. It looks amazing and weighs a ton. Better than basses twice or three times the cost.
Awesome at any price
I've been playing bass for 20 years now and in that time I have owned an embarrassing amount of instruments. Some that were $100 some that were $2500. I gravitate towards my P bass so I was hesitant to drop a lot of cash on a jazz, although I wanted that sound for a recording project, so I found this one.
The bass I got is as good as any of the basses I've ever owned. For $240 shipped (to USA) it's insane. It's very playable, pickups are low noise, with the classic jazz growl. HB made a nice distinctive headstock shape. No sharp or uneven frets that I have found, there is minimal fret buzz. The only setup change I made was to ever so slightly raise the action on the E string. Honestly I'm pretty astonished that such a good bass can be sold for so little money. I will be recommending these to anyone that asks. It's so far above anything in its price range, it's a no brainer.
I thought maybe I'd change things around like put a different bridge or some other pickups on it, but after playing it for the last week I can't see how that would make an appreciable difference. My only possible complaint is that it is rather heavy, but it's an ash body jazz bass so that's to be expected! The balance is good so it doesn't bother me to play.
It's just that good. Really.
This bass is much more expensive than its price
This bass is very well assembled. The case consists of three parts, but it is not noticeable. Good fittings are installed. Keeps the formation, does not get upset. Perhaps professionals will find many disadvantages. But I think it's the best option for learning. I'm an amateur, I bought this bass to learn how to play slap. Its disadvantage is heavy weight! In the future, I want to change the electronics to improve the sound quality.
amazing for the money
absolutely amazing bass for the money, 100% recommended!
A fantastic buy for newbie or pro!
I owned a Made in Japan Fender bass that this one is a copy of that 75' design. I like this bass a bit better as both are excellent and close enough that few would tell the difference. However the weight of the HB is lighter than the Fender and that makes a difference as you get older ;).
Took a point off as the pick guard had a long scratch out the box. I can order a replacement for 9 euros so not a deal breaker.
Pickups are low output but that's the correct wind for a Fender 75. I am amazed.
Great Jazz Bass!
This is a great bass with great features, especially at this price point. I was blown away by the quality and sound of this bass. Great looking finish, decent pickups, and the neck is absolutely wonderful to play, very comfortable with a slim vintage profile. The brass saddles are also a nice touch. Nothing bad at all to say about this one. Do not hesitate to get one of these basses!!
Awesome!
Great straight out of the box.
After a bit of expected set up, this bass is awesome!!!
Wow!
If you love a classic Fender Jazz bass, you’ll love this thing! Sound, feel and the quality of the wood, all 5 stars! So impressive!
