Awesome value

After 15 years of playing guitar, I finally decided to play around with a bass. I was looking for something affordable, and after watching multiple amazing reviews on Youtube, I decided to pull the trigger on this JB.

Pros:

- The finish is absolutely flawless,

- There are zero sharp frets.

- Action out of the box didn't need any adjustments, perfect intonation in all positions.

- The bass records beautifully

Cons:

- Just one - this thing is HEAVY as a bag of bricks. I really need to work on my back strength if I want to play it standing up :D

Even on my thigh I have to readjust it every now and then, because my leg goes numb...

If you need a solid workhorse, you really can't go wrong with this bass. Highly recommended.

Shut up and take my money!

Absolutely amazing!

I was blown away by the build quality and the looks of this one.

Man, she sounds good! And versatile, too. Offers a great variety of tonal and dynamic capabilities. Very responsive.

My only complaint is that it's a bit on the heavy side. Mine weighed almost exactly 5 kg. It makes the guitar feel more expensive and seems to give it a much better sound. But after playing it for hours my leg started to hurt. So if you're ok with heavy guitars - don't even think, just buy it, 'cause this one is a steal!

Surpassed my expectations

After reading and watching a lot of reviews, i had big expectations regarding this bass but i must say i am not a bit disappointed. The looks are stunning, the fretboard is comfortable, pickups sound great.

It was playable right out of the box.

The only issue i have with it is its weight. This thing is heavy.

I don't think you could buy a better instrument at this price point.

Very nice

An excellent option for a begginer or for a low budget buyer,

Sure cannot touch the feeling of an expensive bass but its value for money and something more.

nice grabbing ,excellent feeling as you play, hopefully neck has no lacker on, with a good amp you can do easy and well your job

Outstanding value

I'm not a bass player, so I can't comment on the finer points if this bass guitar versus others, but it sounds like the real thing to me. I needed a bass for home recording and chose the Harley Benton based on other buyers' reviews and it is just excellent. The build quality is very good, it is easy to play and it sounds like a Jazz Bass. What more could you want? You really can't have any complaints about a bass guitar that does what it supposed to do and is less than half the price of any comparable product. The only thing I would point out is that it is very heavy. I don't know that I could play a gig with this beast strapped on.

I love it!

This guitar is great, it looks fantastic and the quality is excellent, I liked it so much I bought a black one as well!

The only thing I have done with any Harley Benton bass is to change the strings but I didn't even need to do that with this one as it already comes fitted with D'Addario strings!.

The bass is quite heavy, not a problem fro me, it just feels really substantial and gives a quality feel to it.

Most importantly, it plays really well and sounds like it should.

I am really happy with this!

love it!

2019 update: Love this bass! Pickups sound incredible. They are the Roswell jazz single coils. Sounds absolutely beautiful with flatwounds on it.

------

I got 2 Harley Bentons about a month ago. This and a strat, for home studio recording use.

The JB came almost perfect out of the box. Minimal setup required, and in perfect condition, with literally nothing wrong that I could find. I love it. Great bass. Love the satin finish neck and natural look. Tuners are a bit cheap, but nothing terrible. I put flatwounds on it, and it is a joy to play. Packaging is not great, and could easily be damaged in transit. However, mine arrived fine, despite slightly battered cardboard box. TLDR:

Sounds great, looks great, great value.

Beautiful guitar

I don't usually write reviews but I had to do it this time.

This bass is awesome, period! I might not be the best expert for basses, as I'm a guitar player, but you can feel the quality of this bass as soon as you see it, and it's super easy to play to.

Setup was great right out of the box, tune it and you're ready to play.

The tone is awesome, and I'm super surprised at how little of noise these pickups have being that they are single coils...

I would recommend this guitar to everyone.

Why spend more for big names?

Very nice build quality. Very solid!. Pickups are very nice too. Can be used for almost any type of music. Can't find fault on this, so why pay more for other big brands?.

Awesome bass

I bought this bass in June 2017 and it is my first bass. I am a drummer originally but wanted to have a bass for a while to learn to play it and as well for my home studio.

I played other basses mainly Fender from friends and let me tell you that this bass looks as good if not better than the Fender basses I have played in the past.

I have the roswell pickups and they sound great ! I have nothing to say about them as they just sound great and work fine.

All in all it is a great bass guitar that looks great feels great and plays well. For this price it's a bargain.

You won't find better for 140¤

I bought this as an extra bass to practise when I'm away from home. The neck has a nice feel and is straight. The sound is fine and I'm not noticing any significant hum. The body woodwork is lovely - it looks a lot like my swamp ash Marcus Miller Sire.

The fret ends absolutely need half to one hour of DIY with some masking tape and fingernail sanding boards to make play comfortable.

Being picky: the tuners feel like you need to apply a lot of torque to get the thing up to pitch, especially on the D and G strings. This might be the tuners themselves or the nut or the string tree. Or a combination. So I'm replacing the tuners with some Schaller just because I feel like it. The pickup pole pieces stick out a lot and they're kind of sharp. This is probably just like original Fender, but just a bit janky. I might replace them for that reason alone. I'm also going to try a cheapo high mass bridge, again, just because I fancy tinkering, not that it's absolutely necessary.

Just love it.

I'm not trying to sell or persuade you to buy this but I remember the fist time I played this bass I was shocked! I took the instrument at school and my teacher was truly amazed by the sound of this bass so that he bought 2 for him and so did the others from the school. I still have this bass 2 years later and I think was the best purchase I've ever done!

Great service, great quality...

I bought this as part of the bass/amp/accessories package.

The product was quickly dispatched and sped across Europe at lightning speed. It spent a matter of minutes being approved by customs and arrived at my hometown in impressive time.

It unfortunately then spent the next two days at the PARCEL FARCE depot 200 yards away from my home.

The item was very well packed and upon inspection, it seems flawless, looks stunning and plays very well.

I have a collection of p electrics including high end Gibsons, Fenders and PRS so this was purchased as a "suck it and see" distraction. I don't know if bass will be my thing, but it's got to be tried.

I can only say that, if this is the quality of HB's, more will be joining my collection in the near future (space and wife permitting).

Insane value, top service (apart from PARCEL FARCE) and quality way above it's price range. Do not hesitate....

Great bass guitar for a low price that simple

Quality which needs no qualification

Forget the 'for the price' kind of qualification which is often used. This is an excellent instrument in its own right. Mine (NAT model) was properly set up when I received it and I haven't been able to find a single imperfection in the build, the sound or the extensive range of tones available, especially for a passive bass. I would consider it to be reassuringly 'solid' rather than 'heavy'. I now own three Harley Benton basses and I'm more than happy to recommend all of them, equally.

If some buyers have acquired a 'bad' one all I can say is that I have encountered quality control issues with considerably more expensive instruments from some of the 'household' names in the industry. Highly recommended.

Great!

I bought this bass because I wanted one to learn how to play. I never expected the sound would be so good. The finishing is great and the instrument itself is quite heavy.

I doubt that you can find anything better for this price!

Enjoying my new bass

I'm a six string player who wanted a bass to mess about with. This through my new Fender Rumble sounds great. Goes from quacky funk to jazz thump. It's quite heavy - I bought a good strap that cost nearly have a s much as the bass!

It stays in tune and quite simply feels nice. The neck finish is very smooth in that sort of non sticky matt way. Can't believe the value for money and most of all it's a lot of fun to play. Will always look at HB for new purchases.

The only downside is it's a bit heavy.

Excellent for beginners & intermediates. Looks, feels & sounds great.

As a beginner I needed a bass that felt good and had a good action (as I'm still developing my technique and would not be able to adapt to a 'difficult' bass very easily). I also wanted it to sound good even though I'm not gigging (yet!).

Pros

This bass looks fantastic - my bass tutor was VERY impressed when he saw it and played it for a while. Build quality is superb and the machine heads & strings hold their tune well.

It has a lovely sound. There a good depth on the neck pickup for a deep rumbling bass and brightness on the bridge pickup for a great jazz sound. The tone control is very effective and tames the brightness perfectly when needed.

I can confirm this bass ticked the boxes for feel and sound, but I did have to adjust the bridge height to get a lower action. This is quite straight forward and worth experimenting with and the tools for truss rod and bridge adjustment are supplied.

Cons

Shielding is not very good on the internal wiring so there can be a slight buzz in some conditions, but this disappears when the strings are touched, and isn't at all bad.

I feel the nut height does require a minor adjustment (slightly lower on 2 strings), but it's minor and isn't causing a problem. It would have been good to have a better setup out of the factory (hence the 4 stars on quality).

Overall, for the price this is an excellent bass. I've played it through both a modelling amp and PA speakers and have practiced for hours - I enjoy it that much!
