Harley Benton HBO-850 Blue Reviews
Don't Like As Much, But HB Is Still Great!...
I ordered this (and a bunch of other HBs) guitar a few years back. The 1st one I received played well, but the bridge had partially separated from the body. Also, some of the higher frets had buzz or were dead. Well, the "problem" with the bridge actually makes the guitar very playable, like a shock absorber. Anyway, I notified HB, and they said to keep that one and that they'd send a replacement as well, the rep warned me that there were build problems with that model, that I could return them both after a year or so to try them out. I was stunned by the magnaminity of their Customer Service. In that regard, HB is truely outstanding. Anyway, the replacement guitar had a properly seated bridge but serious problems with dead frets and buzz in the highest notes, it's much harder to play as well. They really do have a serious build problem with setting the necks on this model. So, I can't recommend this model guitar from HB, it's too much of a "crap shoot". I think I was lucky to get the 1st one and kept it; however, HB has a much better and consistent build among its other model accoustic guitars, and I would recommend one of them.
Great value for price
For an entry guitar this is a great deal. The sound is more 'metalic' than a regular wood accoustic guitar but that's one of the features i like on it.
Good for the price
Great looking and sounding guitar, the only issue were the frets at 12th key, not even so with buzzing high E on last notes.
Fantastic sounding and looking guitar
I just have to say that this my first electric round back and what a beautiful sound well worth the money
Great Guitar- Great Value.
This guitar has everything that a similar one costing 3 times as much has, great sound. Great manufacturing quality and great value, this is my 3rd Harley Benton guitar, and will have no hesitation in purchasing more items from this company.
Harley Benton HBO-850 Blue
I realy like the sound its bright and also using a recording mic makes it sound good in recording sessions i very like the low action and playebility a good thing for us metalheads and a plus are the 24 frets . After using some fingerboard oil one the nek and the leafs it looks amazing A job well done Harley Benton.
Stunning!
Arrived today, got it straight out the box and had a little jam. Came out the box almost ready to play, I had to tune one of the strings. But I do that every time I pick my guitar up anyway. As a beginner and only been learning to play the guitar for about 6 months, I have little to no experience when it comes to guitars. And I'm not going to pretend I do. But saying that, for a less expensive 'budget' guitar, I am really really impressed. It covers all my needs. I think it sounds great, it's comfortable and the slim width makes it a lot easier for me to hold and play. I'm even tempted to buy another in a different colour. I'm sure there are more learnered players with greater expirence that could pick holes in it and find a negative, but for me it's perfect.
Harley Benton HBO 850 Blue 'Heaven'!
Must be the best value quality guitar available today!
Great value
Well made plays well for the price. Needed a bag but sweet sound through amp too I reccomend
I want to like it. (Update) I do like it!
I bought 2 HBO-850s, 1 blue, 1 black, and an HBO-850 classical nylon. The black plays well and has good tone. The blue one has fret buzz at the 5-7 fret area on the 3 low strings. I've adjusted the truss as much as I can. If I adjust any more I start to get fret buzz at the 15-17 fret area. As an owner of a dozen Harley Bentons, I can't really complain. This was $106 usd, what can you get for that? *Update* I adjusted the neck with the truss rod again and the buzzing is gone. I am pleased with all my HBs. Just ordered 3 more. 12 string acoustic will be here tomorrow!!
GREAT V4M
Great value for money instrument with no flaws
Wonderful guitar!
Was playing a jumbo accoustic and wanted a slimmer body. This guitar delivers in spades! The sound is fabulous, and the quality for the money way exceeded any expectations I had. Lovely satin neck and action perfect. The frets may need a polish, but other reports of sharp edges proved false with my delivery. Up until now my weapon of choice was always electric, but this has changed due to the amazing sound and resonance of this fantastic instrument. I may well be ordering the accoustic strat model some time in the future
Cheap and cheerful, surprising quality!
A whole lot of guitar for the money! Construction is with cheaper parts, but the important stuff is decent- quality neck that feels very comfortable, solid tuners and a great bridge. Sounds sweet enough through an amp too.
excellent buget acoustic guitar
I purchased this guitar for songwriting at home or on the move and It has proved its worth when either plugged in or just acoustically.. a little lightweight in construction it is more than functional with a decent action and good fretting. The pick up is a little weak and maybe a bit eletric sounding but it makes up for this with its straight acoustic sound which is excellent.. overall a good buy for any beginner or as a spare for any serious acoustic performer..
The Frets Are Dangerous!
Harley Benton really needs to concentrate on quality control regarding frets!
This is the second guitar I have bought where fret finishing is poor. Some of the fret ends were extremely sharp, and this guitar was impossible to play without doing some serious finishing of the frets by me.
Overall, the guitar has a nice sound, but it is not playable out of the box.
Solid guitar
Does it look like an Ovation? Yes. Does it play like an Ovation. Almost. Does it sound like an Ovation. Pretty close. For only a fraction of the price of an Ovation, it's unbeatable.
Best electroacoustic I could find for this price
I understand the design isn't for everyone, but I really like it. The round back makes it a bit awkward to play sitting as it slips off from your leg if your posture isn't correct, but on the other hand that forces you to play with correct posture. There was rattling when playing the D string, turns out the springs in the battery compartment resonate with it. Simple fix by putting a bit of foam between them. doesn't stop the battery from working.
Pros:
-Great neck profile
-Great tone both plugged and unplugged
-Interesting design
-can't lose your picks in it
Cons:
-slips from your leg sometimes
-rattling from battery compartment(easy to fix)
Great value considering the price
I bought this as to have as a cheap acoustic and i was surprised by how well it played.
I did have to make a few modifications but found it to have a great sound and feel
I replaced the plastic nut and bridge with a cheap bone set which i was able to buy cheap off amazon. Easy swap and major improvement to sound and sustain.
Build quality is decent but i did notice that the fretboard/frets were very rough and needed a good polish.
Pickup electronics are decent but i found i had to really roll off the bass to get a good tone.
Overall i really am enjoying this guitar, good job HB!
Nice
Good for a price, sound very well, looks good, just few production marks on a head but nothing serious. Recommended
Great guitar and value for money
Beautiful guitar. Other reviewers had commented on fret buzz and blemishes on finish. My guitar has neither issue - the finish is perfect. Sounds is great both acoustically and via the pickup. Only slight issue was (to me) the overly high action - I previously only play lead stuff on electrics so I'm probably not the best judge of this. However, a little adjustment of the truss rod took most of the neck relief out and fixed the issue. At the price, loverly guitar.
