Harley Benton JJ-55OP White Reviews
This Bass is perfect for any entry level, practicing, recording, gigging... you name it
Got this Bass as I have been missing one for my home recording. I eventually settled on this cheap bass and a Boss Katana 210 Bass Amp.
I've had no issues with this bass, only positives. I can just sit and dial in my bass tone all day and it never gets old. it just sounds great for the price.
This is the best guitar at this price
JJ-55OP Wow
This is what you need if your looking for a Jazz bass. It's got all you need the tone is unreal. Great set-up out the box. It does everything you ask. Why pay more even with shipping this is a great bass. Man this is the ONE. You looking for a Jazz bass this is it. Bridge is solid and stable, tuners are so so. No frets sticking out setup was perfect out the box the packing was great. This is it y'all I'm late to the Harley Benton party but man I'm convinced.
Fantastic but needs help with QA
First off, the bass is fantastic. Plays wonderfully and sounds so good. There are a few spots of yellow discoloring/marks that are very visible and should have been caught by QA.
general review
I played for 3 weeks and I really used to neck profile . roasted maple neck is really awesome
Incredible instrument.
It's my favorite bass now.
Good for the price!
Don't dream; this is not a 'pro' bass. But for the price, it's definitely the best you can find. Mine arrived with a decent setup (you NEED to install new strings though). I'd have wished for a preamp 'bypass' option...
Great instrument, great price, but wait there's more!
I was looking for a bass for quite a while but wasn't really sure what to go for, then this new bass dropped and I really liked the white version, got it and here's my review after almost a full day of playing it non stop.
First of all, bass came in perfect condition, packing was really well done, you'd need to go nuts with a hammer to damage it with all the protective layers.
__Color and finish__
My bass has a slight yellow tint and is not as white as seen on the picture, more like of an ice-y color, don't really mind but your mileage may vary.
There are a couple of small yellowish spots on the body, really small and not visible unless you look for them, not a deal breaker for me anyways.
The pickguard is really beautiful up close and has a really nice shine and ties pretty well with the rest of the body.
The neck has this very earth / deep-coffee color which I really dig, I do wish however the fret markers were white or some other more visible color as they can be hard to see when in a poorly lit environment.
__Features and hardware__
The knobs are fairly simple but solid, the stacked tone and bass can be a bit tricky to get used to but do their job nicely and "lock" when in the neutral position. A mid knob would have been nice to have.
The pickups have a bit of a hum, not very noticeable when set in 50/50 but it does get louder when you solo a pickup, this hum becomes even louder when using distortion, which is to be expected.
The bridge is okay, nothing too fancy but does the job.
The nut is plasticky but sits well, this is one of the thing that may need upgrading.
Tuning pegs also seem fine, tuned the bass once and never got out of tune after a pretty long session
Bass arrived pretty well set up out of the box, but this can vary a lot depending on where you live and shipping conditions.
The bass came with a 9V preinstalled (Shipped within Europe)
Weight is great, not too heavy but still feels like a proper instrument.
__Sound__
Ok now for the important part!
First of all, this bass is pretty versatile, you can get many different sounds with very slight changes to pickup configuration / tone / bass.
I found that a 60/40 (neck>bridge) with a small tone cut and small bass boost gives a really warm, almost p-bass sound, while keeping some twang. Really nice!
I found that the least usable sounds are the ones where you max both tone and bass to either 100 or 0, 0 creating an almost old school radio sound, 100 being a bit over the top and will give a very hot output which can in turn clip your input.
Maxing the tone and lowering a bit the bass can be very nice for tapping as it creates this nice attack and acts as a compression of sorts.
__Conclusion__
I don't regret this purchase at all and I'm excited to see what I'll be making with this bass, the only real con I can think of is the hum of the pickups which can be solved with an upgrade or some workarounds.
Recommended, especially for the price.
