Harley Benton MS-60LH VW Vintage Series Reviews
Amazing!
Iâm addicted to playing this.
Not Great
Guitar came in and the neck was straight, the body looked good. Both really positive for a budget guitar.
On the downside, there seems to be a grounding issue with the electronics because there is a ton of feedback when my hand isn’t in contact with the strings.
Next, there is very little play in the truss rod for adjustment, so not much can be done to set the guitar up for tunings other than standard.
Intonation has been a pain, but I’ve been able to set it up, just with high action, so it doesn’t play the best.
Lastly, the tremolo bar doesn’t sit in the arm holder, the holder isn’t threaded, neither is the arm, so it falls out when it moves and it can’t be tightened, and the nut on the back of the arm holder wasn’t tightened so the first time I used the trem bar, the arm holder broke loose and sink down into the bridge plate, so I had to take it off and fasten it myself.
I knew not to have crazy expectations for the price, but it’s playable. I expected it to be cheaply made, but didn’t expect so many features not to work as intended.
It sounds pretty good, besides the feedback.
Definitely not the first guitar I will reach for, but it is what it is.
Okay
Its decent, but the neck is way too short, the action arrived incredibly high nd picks died on me 2 months after use.
Great Replica
This guitar is amazing, the only thing is I almost gave it 4 stars. The reason I didn’t is because if you’re paying this little for such a good looking and sounding instrument you have to expect to put in a lil work. All in all nothing that couldn’t be done at home in a few hours and once setup to your liking it’s %100 a 5 star guitar to play. This isn’t my first Harley benton, likely won’t be my last.
It's light, it's spanky, and it's fun...
swapped out the chisel edge saddled bridge for a roller type and it returns to tune just fine. The dang thing intonated out of the box. This is a fabulous value in a little mustang-y package.
It's actually good!
The price is low, but it doesn't mean that the quality is bad. To be fair, this guitar is very playable and sounds decent.
FINALLY!
Are you looking for a left handed mustang style guitar that doesn't cost thousands of dollars and/or has the name Kurt Cobain plastered on it, that also gives you great vintage tones and plays like a dream?
Look no further than the MS-60LH VW
Aside from a couple of rough fret ends (top-side of the fretboard, I don't wrap my thumb over when I play, so it doesn't affect playability for me), my only complaint is that this baby isn't available in red.
Good guitar for the money; needs routing to add a humbucker
I bought this guitar because it's the only reasonably-priced lefty Mustang-ish guitar on the market currently. It was not well packed, but made it to me in the USA just fine.
It's a good budget guitar; good pickups, frets, and electronics. It's a bit heavier than it needs to be, and the neck is chunkier than I personally like. The bridge, tremolo, tuners, and nut are not great, but just fine for us bedroom/basement rockers. Mine came with .10 strings installed, not the .09s mentioned in the listing.
Note for modders: the body cavity needs routing (or chisel work) to fit that Duncan JB in the bridge position.
Electronics are NOW fixed
A very nice guitar. Quality is great, except for the electronics. Neck has a nice feel to it, the fret work is superb. The downside is probably lack of QC...The pickups are in and out when it comes to sound and mostly out. I would like to give an opinion on the tone of the pickups, but that is very difficult to do when they keep cutting in and out. The worst part is, that it doesn't matter what position the switches are in, they do the same thing. The elite gig bag that was purchased along with the guitar is phenomenal. EDIT: seems there was a loose wire on the jack input. Removed the pickguard and did a little work and walla, we now have a great guitar. Love it.
Vintage mojo at reasonable price!
The guitar arrived in good condition and what a great little guitar it is!!!
The finish is flawless, the color very nice and the short scale neck perfect for small hands persons, like me.
It sounds great to:) .I prefer the neck pickup and for those who find the volume a bit to low , best advice is to raise the pickups.
All in all a nice guitar with a real vintage vibe.
Great little guitar
I bought this guitar a couple of years ago before moving house and have only just got around to having time to play it. The neck is thin and very playable up the neck, the fretwork is OK but could do with a level to get it playing better to be honest. The sound is great with tele-ish tones to my ears. The nut was cut well and only needed a slight adjustment. I think the only downside to this guitar is the bridge as it rocked back and forth a lot throwing the guitar out of tune so i replaced it with a roller bridge which i luckily already had. All in all if you are looking for a mustang style guitar you cant complain at this price and with a little setup it would be great in anybody's guitar collection
I bought this on a whim after desperately seeking an affordable left handed, mustang style guitar. Fender and Squire don't make any such guitar with the only one available for lefty's being the Cobain signature which i'd love but it comes with a hefty price tag for a student. When i found this i read all the reviews and watched some demonstrations on youtube and decided to take the plunge. On arrival the guitar was set up well and had no obvious manufacturing issues. Unlike some of the reviews i've seen mine arrived with a well oiled fret-board, new strings and the frets were smooth against the edge of the neck with no spikey rough pieces. Plugging it in i was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the pickups ranging from warm mellow tones to aggressive treble. I like the scale of the guitar as a whole, its a nice easy to handle piece of kit and considering its made from basswood it has a very surprising weight to it which i really appreciate. Overall this is definitely worth picking up and i shall definitely investing into more Harley Benton guitars in the future.
An Amazing Mustang Styled Guitar
I was searching far and wide for a Left handed Mustang that didn't cost a fortune. This was the only one that I had found and I was glad that I did. I had ordered it and it took 1 month for it to arrive to New Zealand. The Guitar was shipped with no problems.
Out of the box this guitar was more that ready to be played. It was set up very well, the tuners were smooth, no sharp fret ends and the neck was nice and small. Though there were some manufacturing issues like the paint work had small bits of dust in it and the neck joint was dirty, apart from that there were not many issues. When I had plugged it in, it sounded so clean and bright, the pots were smooth and weren't on and off like my previous strat. On a boss DS-1, it was dirty and raw and powerful at a high level of distortion. This is a great Mustang especially at the $185NZD/$100EUR I had paid for it, I am very pleased with it.
Pros:
- Looks Amazing
- Sounds Amazing
- Feels Amazing
- A Beautiful Mustang Representation
