Harley Benton PB-20 SBK Standard Series 4-stars Reviews
Great starter base guitar for beginners at a wonderfull price. The neck comes in an unfinished form, I had to take it to a luthier to polish it and trim edges. The doses both were unglued and fall inside their cases and hat to be put in place and fixed
Prijs/kwaliteit goede bass
Aanrader dus!
Great budget/starter bass!
A lovely bass for anyone who doesn't have much money or is just getting into the hobby. My only complaint would be how heavy it is, so be sure to get a padded strap :)
Perfect and Affordable!
This is a really good and cheap bass if you want to start playing or recording
Great for the price
Good bass. The only flaw I noticed is that the fret ends were a bit sharp but that’s an easy fix. I did have low expectations but this bass is miles better than I was expecting.
great for the price
frets were good. i adjusted the action a bit and intonation on 2 strings. one of the pickups was a little slanted, so i slid a piece or 2 of cardboard on each side to align it but i dont think it made any difference on the tone.
the tone is good.
Fantastic bass
Had this bass for a couple of months now and I am very happy with it. It sounds great, looks great and plays great. It should be illegal to sell it this cheaply. There is a single buzzy note, but it's not bad enough to warrant fretwork. Guitars need fretwork now and again anyway, so I'll have it fixed in a few years.
I love this bass!
I find myself playing this bass more than some of my 2000 dollar fenders. It wasn't perfect when it got to me but I gave it a setup adjusted the truss rod and cut the nut slots deeper(it was really sharp too I had to sand the edges of the nut) but now that it's set up I can't put it down and it sounds great too!
Overall good
Good by the look, it feels good to play it, when you adjust the action of course.
The only thing is the frets are a little sharpie on the edges. Good starter bass!
Really good for the money!
This bass is good for the bassist that likes to jam in a garage or play in small clubs. maybe not for the touring musician who plays arenas. With that said, really good quality for such a low price, it feels alright and gets the job done and that's what's important.
Worth SO much more!
I have many basses including several some high dollar instruments and to compare dollars to what you get.......this bass is a steal. A give-away, really (but I shouldn't be saying that, should I?). I'll take this one off the wall as often as my favorites and have an enjoyable time with it.
Great for such a low price
I was looking for a “starter “ bass, I did not expect this one to be so good for ~110 euro. Quality is not the best, but come on, for such a price… I’m sure it is the best choice in terms of cost and quality comparison.
Pros: price, it does sound nice and feels good in your hands
Cons: minor quality issues (zero fret, tuners) it also arrived with two tiny scratches.
Overall I should say the product could not be better for such price
Great bass for the money
Lovely build quality, electrics are basic but with some upgrades would sound amazing. Highly recommended
Not too bad for the price!
I bought it because I was desperate for a bass for my music project.
The only negative aspect I can mention is that you need to really crank up your preamps to get a decent output.
Good for upgrade platform!
So far, no complaints! Hardware and finish are amazing and I can't believe I got this for this price. Upgrading the pickups is recommended and that's it! The rest would just be cosmetics. Oh, the nut will need to be upgraded too. I mean, the Tusq's are not very expensive and this will still be less expensive than the Squier Bullets.
For such a low price really good instrument. I use it only for rock/metal covers for my youtube channel.
The only con is a bit weaker pickups but for the price they are ok.
The neck is a bit chunky but smooth and fast, the weight is light.
Setup was already done when unboxed - ready to play.
Jack lead port came undone about a month after purchasing
The wires connecting the jack port to the rest of the guitar came loose about a month after purchasing, but i sent it back to customer service, very good reception and shipping updates, came back absolutely fine. i'm sure it was just a minor manufacturing error.
other than that, the hum of the pickups is inexcusable once you begin to notice it. like most harley benton products, this is okay for learning the basics of a bass, but you'd definitely want something of higher quality for regular use.
What can you expect for a 100â¬
First of all, this guitar with its matte black finish looks great ... and i bought this as a project
Called the jim wortel bass
(So yes, that means lower action, fretjob, black on black faceplate (3ply black white black) and emg pickups)
But untill that all is done ... you have to ask yourself, what can you expect from a 100 euro bass ...
It plays a little less, mine had fretbuzz and terrible strings, but after a replacement, and tune up, it will look a lot better ... i bought active emg pickups, do not make that mistake, unless you are a woodworker and you can really make s cavity for battery placement, otherwise you need to fix battery underneath the pickguard, and eacht time you need to replace the battery its a hell of a job
So, yes i will finish the upgrade, but i bought a better bass and sell this one
Just some food for thought
Bitten By the Black Widow
Don't let the dark finish fool you, the tone is classic P bass. I know this bass is a hit with hard rock, punk and metal bass players but I got mine for some Jameson\Kaye style P bass tones and it does it. Good news is the paint was stripped on the bottom so the ground issue has been resolved!
Pros: Tone tone tone! The tone is better than expected but if you wish to mod it or upgrade it, you'll be pleased with the outcome. The finish is beautiful, not my first satin finish either; it's dark and smokey in the best way. No issues with the build.
Cons: For me the cons were all superficial. The neck was a bit wider than my hand can handle. The tuners, net and bridge could be better. The pickguard would have been better if it were one-ply black; this all stupid little things. There's nothing wrong with the bass that can't be modded, fixed or upgraded. If the build is good and the wood is good you can work with it. That's more of a strength with HB.
In the end if you want an affordable P-bass you can upgrade or modify that's built well and looks awesome than you've found it. I've been using mine in my home studio and I could not be happier with the tone. If I change anything it would be the tuners and putting some flat wounds on it but that's me. Make it your own and have fun with it; this should be fun. I've been bitten by this black widow and it feels so good.
