Harley Benton PJ-74 VW Vintage Series Reviews
Fantastic PJ
This bass played great right out of the box. After shielding, a setup and new flats, this bass is fantastic. It's become my main bass, replacing my Fender MIM P bass. The Roswell pups sound great with plenty of punch. Highly recommend this bass.
Perfect PJ style
If a PJ style bass is what you're after, look no further. Sounds exactly like a p bass should, and the quality is top notch
Excellent bass, i´m 100% satisfied
Slick
The most perfect weighted bass Iâve owned. Fret work is outstanding right out the box
Solid build quality, decent price. I personally disliked the pickups and the tone they produced, but I would still recommend this bass to others.
A Lot Of Bass Value
One beautiful looking instrument , looks features and sound is very impressive .
It really is as good as they say.
TL;DR - get it! It is amazing and versatile. Tons of tonal variation.
I only had a 6 string bass with me now, and I needed a 4 string bass, wanted to try a Precision, didn't have too much money to spend - this was an easy choice. And a good one.
Intonation from the factory was playable, not quite perfect, but definitely playable.
Action perhaps to the medium-higher side, but I like it like that.
I get it out of the box, tune it and play it for almost two hours. - it did not get out of tune! Saw people saying the tuners are meh, but I think it is more correct to say that they are definitely okay, not meh.
The neck feel is incredible. I knew it was a good instrument for the money, but I did not expect such a nice satin neck.
Frets and everything are great, everything is perfect and quality.
I had to lower the P pickup due to occasional popping sound when playing slap and I raised the J pickup.
Volumes and tone are great to dial in a blend between the pups or just find your sweetspot.
Both pickups are surprisingly great, kinda like a jazz bass. P pickup is great, sounds like a P. J pickup is quieter of course.
It neck dives a bit, but a nice leather strap negates that.
Strings are nice, I bought flats with it, but I will definitely let these roundwounds die first.
It sounds great, like you would expect a fender to sound.
The output of the pickups is quite high.
I love it. Definitely a recommendation! It feels nice to play a super cheap thing too , just out of principle haha.
Great Bass it really is.
I needed a new all rounder Bass for home use ,my 30 year old one (from the gig times hd give up the ghost).I ordered this came a week later to the U.K. Played great out of the boxes .there is an issue with the bushing on the e-string lifting a little ,and my neck is not Amaranth but that blackwood stuff, but other than that perfect ,glad i bought it.Oh and that matching headstock is stunning
A pleasant surprise
I was skeptical when I first saw the price of this bass guitar. I've played a lot of cheap basses in my time, and they've usually been pretty disappointing. But I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
The build quality is surprisingly good. The neck is straight, the frets are level, and the electronics work perfectly. The finish is also well-applied and looks great.
But the real surprise is the sound. This bass has a surprisingly rich and full sound for a budget instrument. The pickups are well-balanced and give you a lot of control over your tone.
I've been using this bass for a few months now, and I'm really impressed with it. It's a great bass for the price, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a budget-friendly option.
harley benton pj-74vw
i just purchased the HB 74vw with a slight adjustment out of the box could not believe the craftsman ship and play ability of this bass as a professional player for 50 years and owner of every bass out there this bass can hold up against any of those high end basses
Unbelievable
I have a Fender bass, and well bass isn't my first instrument I thought I would try one of these as I heard good things...
Out the boxx the set up is great to my ineperienced hands.
Almost in tune too!
The strings sound great and it plays easily.
Intonation is perfect on all strings all the way up.
And for a recording bass it has a FAR better tone than the Fender.
Seriously.
I can't believe how good this sounds.
It seems already that I won't have to do any tweeking for the recorded sound which will save time and energy and also, probably, sound better and more natural overall.
So, I highly recommend this bass.
It's quite unbelievably good for the price!
All you want and need.
Looks great, sounds great, and plays better than way more expensive versions of the same. I'm of fan of H-B due to the purchase of this bass.
I'll not be a brand whore anymore.
Genuinely good
I've had many good guitars and basses over the years and many bad ones too. I am genuinely impressed with this bass. I had a plan to upgrade the hardware, pickups and electronics, however there is no need at all. Negatives - the tactile part of the tuning pegs feel thin, but I am used to that now (initially it made me feel they were no good). The positives - the tuners are accurate and keep tune. The P pickup brings the thunder and has bass and growl with high zings thrown in too, lots of fun and cuts through a mix. The J brings a thinner J rasp as it should, although I don't feel it is actually needed as it is overshadowed by the P. Tone control works just fine. Neck is great, wide and not too deep and the body is a really nice colour in person. The back of the neck is also aesthetically pleasing. The bass is not heavy. Everything is put together solidly with no gaps or rattles, the action and Intonation where fine out of the box. When I started playing, you just could not get anything as good as this at such a low price, I'm blown away. I use this for recording and it replaces an outgoing Chowny SWB1, the Chowny's sound is anemic in comparison (and also feels cheaper than the HB in hindsight), the HB has completely changed the mixes and brought some real movement and life to songs. Much impressed and highly recommended.
Grest Bass
Perfect craftman ship and design. Sound is typical classic P bass great
For rock, jazz, or metal just tweek yout amp to get your favorite sound.
Surprisingly, I like this little bass guitar. It came fully set up and ready to play, I just needed to tune it.
Simply a great guitar
This bass guitar is everything I hoped for and more. The Olympic White finish with the tortoise shell pick guard is beautiful. The feel of this bass is fantastic from the smooth neck to the over all weight.. it just says play me..! The sound is rich and full,I just love everything about my new Harley Benton PJ-74VW bass.. I'm a Harley Benton Girl Today-Tomorrow-Forever...plus you can't beat this quality at this price, you get way more than you paid for..
Perfect bass from the point of a beginner
I bought this bass for a guitarist, with no previous experience playing a bass guitar. The features are excellent, as it features two different pickups, separate volume controls and a tone control. It arrived in perfect condition and was playable out of the box. The sound is very pleasing! I would definitely recommend this product if you are looking for a simple first bass guitar, especially considering the amazing price!
Another great from HB
Bought this as my first bass, shipping to the US was lightning fas as usual. Bass is BEAUTIFUL. The only flaw I possibly see is the strings are not centered over the pickup magnets perfectly.
Outstanding....!
Outstanding quality, a fantastic bass.... :)
Fantastic
Amazing for the price would definitely recommend
