Harley Benton PJ-75 VW Vintage Series Reviews
Great bass just needs teasing out.
Long term review!
Initially out of the box, super impressed a really nice playing instrument, gigged within 3 days.
But..... Changed strings then started running into a little fret trouble, some had come a little loose and needed a reset. However my luthier did not fix all of the issues and it still had a horrible high fret and buzzed like hell!
But 2. Set about sorting it myself with a complete fret level, crown and polish....my my what a difference...super feeling bass.
Replaced bridge with high mass fender 5 string bridge (had to shim neck to make it work) .... Again much better, better balanced and stable.
Then I rebuilt the tone circuit with high end capacitor and good pots and that made an enormous difference tonally, really warm and full sounding bass, plenty of adjustment.
Changed the horrible pickguard (at great expense) it's really now an awesome bass and a project I'm proud of.
Out of the box I'd say it was a low quality bass with great potential, tonally it was a bit nasal and there were the set up issues and possibly quality issues with the frets..but I've bought far more expensive basses with similar issues.
Spend a bit of cash and some time on it and you get a really lovely instrument out of it a great pj and the b string is lovely and clear, perhaps not same as on a 35" bass but perfectly adequate.
