Harley Benton SC-450Plus LD Vintage Series 4-stars Reviews
All is good
It'll be very good, if there will be delivery to Ukraine
Great quality guitar
I owned a Gibson les Paul studio in the past and this one is one of the closest guitars to that one. If you want an affordable alternative and a good guitar this is for you.. the main difference is the cut and the wiring (not 50s or 60s but closer to the modern les Paul’s)
The guitar came setup really well and playable from day1
Great money for value
I have received the guitar in good condition, replaced the strings and had to send the frets in order to play the guitar.
The knobs feels good but the plastic cover of the button that switch between the bridge and neck pickups fell down.
The neck is small and have minor "bumps" so its hard to slide the hand over it smoothly, compering to high level guitars.
Pickups are nice and the overall sound of the guitar is really good.
At the end of the day I enjoy playing the guitar but I will use it for practice purposes, this guitar definitely worth the money I have invest on her.
Insane value
This guitar is unreal i am blown away by the resonance of this thing unplugged it feels alive in the hand the same way a gibson does, maybe i got lucky. Nice two piece body frets could do with a polish and machine heads are cheap but do the job. I seriously can not believe they can make any money selling these with delivery for £149
Nice sound and looks good
Guitar looks very nice. push pull switches works fine and sound is worth of your pay
The Usual Tweaks and Then Some
You have to always expect to spend a little time and effort w/ new HB’s at this price point. Usually intonation tweaks, truss rod adjustment and action height. On this one, during a professional set up, my luthier had to glue down the 11th fret on the treble side and file all of the nut slots. Also, there’s a hairline finish crack coming off of the nut. I live in the States so the $55 my Luthier charged me for setup/repairs was cheaper than the shipping charges to send it back.
Excellant guitar! Especially for the price!
faced with a problem
Hello, I ordered a harley benton sc450 electric guitar and ran into a problem. The pickup switch does not work well in the bridge position. When I switch to the bridge pickup, the sound may disappear, the switch itself is very shaky. In general, I like the guitar, I would not like to send it back, help solve the problem.
Honestly, just get one for yourself and decide.
I'm sensitive when it comes to my guitars. If they have niggles, or don't play well, I really struggle to motivate myself to pick them up.
I had borrowed an Epiphone Les Paul (Studio II I believe) from my best friend a couple of years ago, and it put me off LP shapes to be honest. It didn't feel right, it didn't hold tune and it was quite difficult to play.
Granted it needed a good setup, but still.
I heard good things about HB, and I saw the Lemon Drop SC-450plus and immediately wanted it.
I won't say it's perfect, because it isn't, but for the price it's damn close. It plays well, it sounds great, it's heavy which I love, the sustain is excellent, the setup was almost spot on when it came, I've only put new 10s on and touched the intonation on the A and G strings a half turn each, and it's wonderful now.
The fretboard was quite dry when it arrived, so I filled a washing up bowl with soapy water and let the neck sit in it for a few hours.
Not really, but I did give it a coat of Dunlop's lovely lemon oil and now it feels smooth and silky.
The pickups are a little dark for my taste, but it's hard to judge properly because I only have a Line 6 Spider IV 100w at the moment which at very low volume is not a good representation of their true output.
Please get one for yourself, they're too affordable to second guess yourself.
Quality
Got the guitar. Everything came safe, but there were fears that the switch was damaged because it punched the box. To send by mail, you need better packaging.
I liked the guitar. It is collected qualitatively, the grit is flat, there are no crowds of varnish in the gluing places. Now a few little things that ruin the impression a little:
- Pickguard attachment screw is too long, as a result the varnish on the guitar is damaged;
- tone regulators need to be changed, as they produce rustle and crack during rotation;
- 5 and 6 string not correct on 12 fret (tone higher than should be).
But in general, for its price is very good.
Guitar is excellent right out of the box. Low action, decent tuners. Pickups are ok, but a bit dark for my taste, so I upgraded to SD 59s. I've had this guitar for a year and a half, and it's holding up very well. Definitely a keeper.
Guitar is great quality, shipping not really
The guitar is amazing for the price, I have played guitars far more expensive than this that feel nothing close to this. However, the guitar was shipped to my house and a tuning peg broke off of the tuner. Overall, get this guitar!
The best les paul for the money
Good workmanship. Good wood. Good sound, but for heavy styles, you need to replace the pickups. The neck is a little thick.
The only problem is that the saddles on the bridge are located almost in a plane, but you need a radius of 14 inches (I bought another one and replaced it).
Beautiful guitar but...
Great guitar accept one thing, the tuner screws were almost all over tightened and stripped from factory. When I went to change strings a couple tuners all but fell off. Like someone put tuners under bind with strings and then tightened screws so they would appear ok and sturdy. I could just find slightly longer larger screws maybe but New tuners ordered. However the rest of the guitar is great. fret ends very nice, neck adjusted perfectly, not a single blem on it. The strings were adjusted high as per usual with most new guitars but the intonation is spot on. Overall I really like this guitar and probably would have replaced tuners anyway so I dinged it two stars because newbs would have been lost with the tuners like they are.
So Tuner screws stripped in 6 of 12 otherwise great guitar for the money. Sounds good too.
Very nice guitar
I love this guitar. Never owned a Les Paul before but have played a few and this is pretty close to the real deal for me. I play thru pedals and software, never straight into an amp. The sound it produces is heavy as is its weight. Playability is very good. Sound is good. I switched to TUSQ nut. Single coil sound is ok - sounds like a diminished version of the humbuckers' full force. Overall quite happy.
Great Value
This is just a gorgeous guitar and very fun to play. The pickups are a tad bright for my preference but that is understandable since they are Alnico 5's (I generally prefer Alnico 2's).
The flame top is very pretty as well as the lemon drop color. The fingerboard is a rich, nicely figured reddish-brown. Fret ends are nicely finished (no roughness) and a nice touch is that the neck binding is placed over the fret tang making for a neater appearance. I have no complaints whatsoever regarding the quality of the finish or attention to detail. Hardware is all good with no apparent signs of cheapness. It might be nice if the pickguard was beveled because to me the straight cut seems a little cheap, but maybe that's just 50's style period correctness? Setup was very good. I made a couple of very slight adjustments for intonation, lowered the bridge just slightly and gave the neck a tiny bit more back-bow. Also, I ordered a set of quality, brass shaft Alpha pots and will be replacing the original ones and doing away with the push/pull coil splitting which I do not care for. Also I do not care for the very low friction attribute of the push-pull pots.
As I mentioned in another review, this SC-450Plus mops the floor with my CST-24HB in terms of finish and hardware, all for $40 LESS than the CST.
One thing I find odd is how light this guitar is for being mahogany. How can that be? I had an Agile LP style guitar that was an absolute boat anchor compared to this one.
Overall, very happy with this guitar but confused by my other more expensive and disappointing CST, which makes me a little reluctant to purchase another HB.
Excellent guitar. Amazing value. Pity about the colour.
This is a really good LP style guitar. I would have given it 5 stars except the finish isn't close to one in the picture. The dark part of the burst is virtually undetectable so it really just looks like a single colour, yellow top. This has taken some of the joy out of getting the guitar but I will get used to it in time. Overall the guitar is very close to a late 80s Gibson LP a friend of mine owns. Similar weight, neck profile. etc.
Pros: Very well built. Flawless finish. Has an actual thick cap rather than a thin veneer. Holds tuning well. Played very well out of the box - intonation almost spot on, no fret buzz, nice medium/low action. Fret work is excellent. Nut is well cut. Pots are smooth and no crackles. Neck heel design is a revelation (see below).
Cons: The colour (see above). The 3way switch and bridge look cheap but work fine. The knobs are very light weight and difficult to grab when using the coil split.
I normally play double cut guitars (super strats and PRS style) and this is my second try with an LP style guitar. My previous guitar was mid/high end Ltd that I never got comfortable with. It was a very nice guitar but the neck heel made upper fret access too difficult. The heel on this guitar is a massive improvement over the Ltd and far better than the Gibson design.
A very good guitar at any price and amazing for the price charged. Highly recommended - maybe just see if you can get a picture of the guitar you order to check the finish matches the pictures.

everything I hoped for and more, great platform for upgrades, my three way switch stopped working it tested bad so it was not the wiring or connection points, all ready ordered a switchcraft three way to upgrade, thanks i will be purchasing many more HB's in the future especially once my guitar shop opens.
Great Guitar for the money
This is a really really well made guitar for the money. As soon as I received it I set it up and it plays and sounds great. Buying one for my friend as a present today.
